Just ran into someone I had not seen in a long time - know this person very casually - anyway, I could tell she had lost weight, so I said, "You look great. You must have lost a lot of weight. Can I ask how you did it?"
So she told me she lost 140 lbs - I thought about 80 by looking at her and she told me she had a gastric bypass last summer. She said she never felt better in her life. This woman looks to me to be in her 60s. (I know her through work). Gastric bypass always seemed so radical to me, it was interesting meeting someone who actually had the operation. She said she still eats little amounts. She looks very shrunken from before if that is an appropriate word. Lots of loose skin though on the arms. Saw another lady, mom of a friend of DDs, who looks like she lost 60 lbs but is quite toned. I keep seeing her walking everywhere - in short shorts! :thumbsup2 so I guess we can see how she lost her weight.
It is a funny thing to ask people about weight loss. I am always hesitant because it is almost if I ask that I am implying they were fat and I would never want to offend someone like that. Does that sound weird? It is like I am implying they looked bad before and look great now...but with this lady it was SO dramatic a weight loss there is no way to get around it. I always have mixed emotions when people tell me I look like I have lost weight... part of me feels = great. Part of me thinks I must have REALLY looked like a cow before! Maybe I am just a bit too sensitive about weight issues!!!! ;)

I love when people notice! I actually get a little upset when they don't--it took about 40 lbs for people to start commenting and then it hit like gangbusters. But the time before people started noticing stunk--I felt like I was working really hard for nothing :guilty:

I don't think that is matters how you lost the weight, gastric bypass or dieting. Depending on how much weight you have lost and your age is a factor in the elasticity of your skin. I had a gastric bypass 4 years ago, i lost 154 pounds, and yes i have lots of loose skin. 1 week after my bypass i started walking, 1 month after i started using weights and other machines. I have loose skin on my tummy and my arms. But today i am healthy and active, so i would take the loose skin anyday compared to being that overweight again. But once your skin has been streched that much exercise will not always make it as tight as someone the same height and weight. No matter how a person looses the weight no one should judge them. To have a gastric bypass surgery is not something would take lightly, you have to consider the risks. You could die from various things during or after the surgery, and the emotional issues. I might be a thinner person on the outside but the fat girl is always looming inside my brain. Although i dislike my loose skin, i am thankful for it and the fact that i am able to go outside and be active with my kids and not be out of breath and tired after a few minutes.
Gastric bypass isnt an easy way out, you have to watch what you eat forever or those pounds will just pack right back on.
