Gastric bypass and Free DDP?

I'm having gastric bypass surgery next month, and my sister, who I'm traveling with, had it about a year ago.

We're taking my two kids in November and I booked with free dining-- Our plan was, since we can only eat tiny portions, to use both of our TS credits to book a signature restaurant for every day of our trip and split a meal.

We're very good tippers, and obviously we would tip as if we each ordered our own meal. Do you think this would be a problem?

I don't believe meal-sharing is allowed on the DDP. Though I haven't tried myself. But before scheduling all signature dining and planning to share, you might want to confirm. Is free dining really the best option for you? Maybe a room omnly discount would be better savings, then you could pay OOP and share meals.

Enjoy your vacation!

Most TS restaurants where you order from a menu will let you share. The only restaurant that is very strict and will not let you use 1 credit to feed 2 people is Via Napoli.

You cannot share and everyone will be charged a credit at buffets, all you care to eat family style restaurants, fixed price meals (e.g. CRT, Akershus), the 3 dinner shows, special dining events (e.g. Fantasmic! and Candlelight Processional Package) and the family platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Meal sharing absolutely is allowed at Disney owned restaurants where the meal is NOT fixed priced. For fixed price meals you will need to use 1 credit per person (2 for signature) regardless of how much you eat but at restaurants where you pay for the specific things that you order you can split a meal using a dining plan.

Restaurants not owned by Disney may or may not allow meal splitting. I believe that most do but I think I've seen things about the restaurants in Italy and Mexico refusing when using a dining plan. I think at Teppan Edo you might have a plate splitting charge which you'd have to pay OOP for because the way they split meals is to split the portion of the protein but give each person a full portion of vegetables. YMMV at restaurants not owned by Disney.

If you find that certain types of food no longer work for you post-surgery (ex heavy sauces, butter) then don't forget that you can ask for your food to be prepared plain at TS restaurants and at QS locations you can ask for things like the bread to be left off or at some locations a vegetable or fruit instead of fries. At QS locations you can usually get a bottle of water instead of dessert or if they have it at the location, fruit instead of dessert, or the package of grapes or carrots that come with the kids meals instead of dessert.

Sounds to me like you have a good plan. When room discounts come out, I would price the difference between your choice of resort with a room discount and paying OOP for food vs your current free dining promotion to see which is the better option financially but for now this promotion is the only one available to so it makes sense to book it. If they come out close then I would go for the room only discount with paying for dining OOP so you have more freedom in what you order but if they're not close then stick with free dining even if you end up not ordering desserts and having to leave food on the table because it's too much.

Thanks for correcting my info! Good to know. :thumbsup2
