Gasoline info... importing from the Middle East or not

My daughter sent me this email.. it was an interesting one about what companies import from the Middle East, but I did notice that time reference was 9/1/00 to 8/31/01.... I wish I knew what the current figures were... For your reading interest, I am listing below..

Shell............................205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/T exaco...................144,332,000 barrels
Exxon/Mobil.....................130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway................117,740,000 barrels
Amoco.............................62,231,000 barrels

If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18
BILLION!

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
Citgo......................................0 barrels
Sunoco.....................................0 barrels
Conoco.....................................0 barrels
Sinclair...................................0 barrels
BP/Phillips................................0 barrels
Hess.......................................0 barrels

According to the email I received, it says you can get this info from the Department of Energy... Is it the truth on this email.. who knows.. but I did think it was interesting and made me think.

I got that one a while ago and according to www.snopes.com, it is false.

I guess it was based on some sort of truth that got severly distorted and did not take into consideration that oil companies do buy and sell from each other so that you can never really know where you are buying gas from. It is an intersting read on snopes though.

Here's a sure sign this is a myth

British Petroluem (BP) and Amoco mergered several years ago to become BP and Phillips is a completely seperate entity.

Royal Dutch Shell and Texaco are one company and Chevron is another
