Just saw on Mythbusters that driving with TAILGATE up saves gas not down.
They did a road test gate up ran 30 more miles on tankfull. Then a tank test for drag.
When I had a truck I took my tailgate off thinking it was causing drag but they showed it creates a bubble of air with it up and the air flows over this bubble. With gate down air crashes into the gate and causes drag.
If I only knew.
