Hitting us hard in the UK too Diesel is running at £1.35 a LITRE and petrol at £1.24. So that is working out at about $10.24 per US gallon for Diesel and $9.42 for unleaded Lorry drivers are staging protests and fuel syphoning /puncturing fuel tanks is becoming commonplace too. Heating oil has doubled in price in 6 months and there are many news stories of this being stolen too.

A barrel of oil closed at $138.54. Another record high, so fuel prices will most likely go up over night. Diesel will probably be $4.85 to above $5 in some places.
Jen, I would never, ever accuse anyone here of that, mainly because I'm usually the guilty party. Now that I think about it I should have prefaced the story with, "The price of oil did drop today but then someone in one of the oil producing countries thought about maybe sneezing in the future and, well, we all know what happens next." I'm the type of person who thinks up the witty comments days later, I'm not quick witted like BDR or Gatordad and many others.
I'd like to get me one of these for commuting but DW says not until I double the life insurance. If the price keeps going the way it's going I think we may not be making the annual trek to The Fort. We are still going on the cruise and may stay in a hotel for a few days to visit relatives in the area but we'll take the Ford Focus and spend 1/5 the amount for fuel compared to towing. So far the gas prices are still in the realm of doable but not for much longer.
We have the stupid news here. They are always getting things wrong, and for that matter, I still listen, so I am as dumb as they are because I know better. I was just so happy to hear that oil went down that I was jumping for joy, only to have them recant it a couple hours later.
DH does want to get a scooter, but I won't go for it for two major reasons. 1) he drives too far to work and it would take too long because he takes forever to get up in the morning and 2) we have the elderly down here and at 82, they don't have the reflexes to watch for scooters
I had a motorcycle I used to commute from work to college and sold it when we moved to Florida because I was afraid I would be smooshed. In retrospect, I should not have sold the bike, but oh well.
I actually paid $4.19 today...and to think I thought that was a bargain..it was more last week. So who knows?
I think it's all a gimmick to bring us to near $5.00 gas..then if it goes lower...we'll all think paying $4.00 is a great deal.

I think since DH has the day off tomorrow, we are going to go ahead and put a hundred in the tank in the mh. It is going to hurt know how little a hundred will do, but it is hurricane season and we will take it one small step at a time.
It cost me $140 to go to Orlando and back this weekend. That was running over to the fort from Universal a couple times too though. The good ol days were $60 round trip.
We have a sonoco that has diesel (at least they did yesterday) at 4.67gal. The problem is that there is a huge amount of construction on US1 where it is. I think we are going to have to ride up there and see if the MH will get in and out. That is all I need, to waste gas to go and see if I can purchase diesel. Geesh!
