yeah isn't it amazing?

It almost makes me wish we could have elections every year. ;)

Keep doing the happy dance in STL, because I just filled up yesterday for 2.69. :furious: I live in Utah. If I were you I'd run to the mall and spend all the money that I just saved on gas. :)

Yes, bring on the elections!

I heard that St Louis has some of the lowest gas prices in the country right now, and I'm not sure why that is, but I'll take it!

And I'm headed to the mall tonight! ;)

Crazy how that works, isn't it? :teeth:

It's great! I drove past the gas station this morning and thought, "Wow, now when I fill up I won't go over my credit limit." Over here it's $2.25 at the 'cheap station'.

Nice to see it down!

But as an FYI, it's lower here because the state of MO does not tax gasoline sales like other states do. On the other side of the coin, groceries/food is taxed in MO unlike many states. Then other states do not have personal income tax; some no sales tax at all. So MO is getting their $$ from your pocket in that or other ways!

:cool1: Fill 'er up now, as the second week of November, prices will be going straight up again. Wouldn't want the oil companies to lose too much of their record breaking profits, now would we :rotfl:

It's not that low here yet, but it sure is nice to see it coming down. :Pinkbounc

OK, for those that think the gas price has something to do the the upcoming election - how exactly is that being done?

Could you send me up a few barrels? Day before yesterday I paid $2.67 a gallon..

I will have to find the article I read so I can post a link, but in synopsis, the article said that:

The oil companies favor the Republican party. Makes sense. Oil prices have been just one of the big complaints about this administration. But under this administration, oil companies are posting record profits. So, how best to keep those record profits? Make sure the same administration stays in power

The article stated that the oil companies are allegedly artificially lowering rates just prior to the election so that the American public is happy and satisfied. And a happy and satisfied American will vote for the status quo and not be so willing to seek change. Because for the most part, people don't like change unless they are really unhappy. So, keep the average American happy and he will vote to keep things the same.

Must be working. Just look at how many people are so ecstatic that gas prices have dropped significantly.

Off to find the link for verification purposes....

Edited to add links...Take them for what they are worth - I am sure it will be argued that they are "leftist" pieces written by the hopelessly liberal media :goodvibes

The above article actually argues both sides - yes it is being manipulated and no, it is just market demand - but says that the issue should be investigated further.

Still looking for the original article I read....

As one of my favorite posters would say -- you can't make this stuff up. :sad2:

Hey - one is allowed a bit of cynicism in today's world :cool1: Just answering Galahad's question with some of the theories that are out there. And there all kinds of conspiracy theories floating around out there :)

Unfortunately, because market conditions cannot completely explain why prices are dropping so rapidly, this just gives the ones hypothesizing about a oil prices/election link some ammunition.

The article that I added to my above post is an interesting read. Some oil industry analysts say yes, some say no.

My personal opinion - it is a little bit of everything. Market conditions, lower demand this time of year, and a dash of politics thrown in.
