garmin TRAGEDY -- 301 comments pls??

i had a garmin TRAGEDY this weekend! i successfully crossed the finish line of the Penguins 1/2 marathon in Columbus this weekend.....loaded up my arms with all my extra clothing, gatorade, and all the supplies I had taken with me. showered and 3 of us girls sporting a new fine piece of jewelry headed out for a celebration dinner....when.....crunch

did you guess? i actually ran over my Garmin with my CRV!!! i was nauseated

i'm on hold at Garmin right now to see if it's fixable, it actually downloaded my 1/2 info with a cracked up screen. assuming it's not fixable...does anyone have comments on the Forerunner 301? it looks similar to my 305 except for the face/screen, and the price

I currently use the 301. It works really well.

My only 2 really MINOR issues are:

A bit slow to "lock on" when 1st turned on.

It does not "map" very well on really winding runs. It TRACKS great, with no error that I can find, but when I download it onto my computer, the mapping function sometimes seems to cut corners and straighten out winding trails.

If faced with the same purchase issues & knowing what I now know, I would still buy the 301.

You had the 305? Do you use the HR monitor with it? If not, you might want to look at the 205. It acquires better than the 301 and holds the signal better (we have both, 205 and 301).

I have both the 305 and 301. I would go with either the 305 or the 205 if you have to replace yours.

yes I did use the HR. Garmin did say they could fix/replace with a refurbished one for a mere $99 might as well buy a new one
