Few questions.......our 1 1/2 year old will eat off our plates for buffets. I am not worried about that. I am concerned about table service restaurants that are not buffets. We have a high prevalance of food allergies in the family and we restrict what he can have at this young age (no chicken (food allergy), no fish yet, etc). We feed him a lot of soy products - soy based 'chicken' nuggets, lunch meat, etc.

Does Garden Grocer carry a vegetarian line of the soy lunch meats, etc?

Also, will the restaurants heat something up for an infant? If I have a microwaveable container of mac n cheese, a veggie dog? etc? Will they heat that up?

We took dd at 9 and 12 months. Both times we ordered food from garden grocer. I did cereal bars, the whole line of gerber graduates, fruit, you name it. We let her eat at the buffet's and bites of our food, but for the most part we brought all her food. You can also ship down non-perishables ahead of time. Good luck!

I doubt they will. The most I could ever get was a mug of hot water to heat the baby food in.

My BIL was in resturant managment in Florida at the time and he said that they aren't supposed to microwave that stuff because it's a liability issue if they overheat it and then the baby gets burned.

THis poses an issue for us......I am not sure what he's going eat ! Even the Gerber graduates need heated up. Ya know, I have only ever had ONE restaurant refuse to heat something up for us ........ that was in Key West one time. Nobody else has ever had a problem with it.

I have a child with food allergies too. In May 2006, I contacted Brenda Bennett (see the DISabilities board for more information about her and obtaining information regarding dining in the parks with food allergies). Here is what she told me in an email: "If you want to bring some items with you like snacks or something that does not need heating , just let the Security Person doing the bag checks know you have allergies and they have no problem with you bringing in items . State Law prohibits us from heating or using foods brought in by our guests, so our chefs will not be able to heat anything that is not prepared by us."

I ran into the same problems as you. My DD is highly allergic to eggs. We also avoid tree nuts and peanuts at this time because of her other food allergy. To make things more complicated, we're vegetarians. What can your son not eat? Maybe some of us could provide you with suggestions of what we took to the parks for our kids. I found that the table service restaurants were very good at accomodating food allergies. Counter service meals were more of a challenge.

My DD eats a lot of yogurt, fruit, goldfish crackers, and cereal bars when we are at WDW. It's not the healthiest, but I figure that it's only for a few days.

To answer your question about Garden Grocer if something is not on their site you can still request it and they will at least try to accommodate you. We ordered from them on our last trip and they brought us everything we requested even items that were not on their site.

I just wanted to let you know one of the times we ordered from Garden Grocer we did get some different flavors than we requested due to availability. For example we got the yobaby with cereal in it which my dd will not eat. The next time we specified the flavors we did not want, and to just cancel the item instead. They do have a fair variety of organic items as well so I would imagine they might have a lot of soy items too. The last time we were at Disney earlier this summer we also noticed that they sold soy milk in the food courts of the resorts.

We also have a family member with allergies, you can talk to the chef at each restaraunt and they will prepare special food as requested. This may help you with the main dish and then bringing side dishes. We brought things like Gerber freeze dried fruit and veg, applesauce, and frozen veg that thawed while we were at the park.
