Convinced husband that he should come with me to this garage sale the other morning. It started at 9, but we were there at 8:10 - the man said to come on in they were all set. Yeah!:) I would have sat in the car until he was ready - I'm not pushy. It was actually an estate sale - lots of stuff.
I found a keyboard/organ with a cherry wood stand and matching padded bench for $50. I thought that was a really good price. I didn't ask them to
come down on the price, but they did include as many of the music books that I wanted. I found ones with Disney music:wizard:, Peanuts music, how to play books, Christmas music, etc.

Now the only problem is how to clean it. I had a keyboard a long time ago but it broke. It came with a cover, which I will gladly purchase or make one if I can just get this clean. The part of the keyboard with all the writing is very dusty. The keys themselves had the notes stuck on them, but they were peeling off so we took them off. Behind is paper and sticky residue. How can I clean this without damaging the keyboard?

you could try goo-gone.....put a small amount on a cloth or paper towel so it doesn't drip between the keys

I know it sounds weird but try vinegar. It should work. Just put some vinegar on a rag and wipe at the sticky spot.

Good for you Ellen. Sounds like a wonderful find! :music: I don't know about the keys. Be careful as they may have still made them out of ivory, depending on how old it is. But, for the cherry wood, try Murphy's Oil Soap.

I think I would try the vinegar. I cleaned my microwave the other day, it's above the stove and it was really greasy in places, I used white vinegar and water and it came right off. And yes, Murphy's for the wood. Congrats on a great find!!

Magic Erasers have chemicals in them. I am not sure I would use one on this.

Plus, it might accidentally scratch the shiny finish. :(

ETA: I did a Google search. The solutions I found with that I thought were safe enough to try on both ivory or plastic are: Goo Gone as it's citrus based, olive oil or baby oil or WD-40. All applied sparingly with a Q-tip, let soak in and dissolve the glue, and rub off.
