Game of Thrones - Season 8 - NO SPOILERS PLEASE

I had technical issues Sunday night and couldn't watch the episode until just now (and successfully avoided spoilers, thank ya very much). I'm definitely surprised by the lack of major character deaths, especially since the first few minutes really focused in on everyone's emotions. I thought for sure we were saying goodbye to some of them, but we really only did to a few.

I’ve read a lot of comments different places from people who were upset with how dark the episode was. (Dark as in not being able to see a damn thing). I also was rather frustrated, but at the same time I think it was kind of exciting. The whole episode I felt just as lost and scared out of my mind as everyone in the battle probably did. Kind of added another level of scary and crazy!

Plot armor is my biggest issue but has been since Season 6. Honestly, Im glad this is the last season because they fully went Walking Dead with the show and refuse to kill off fan favorites. Sam, Brienne, Tormund and Greyworm should be dead, no chance this horde can wipe out a charging dothraki army with flaming swords in 30 seconds but somehow all of the main characters survive on the frontlines against a sea of zombies. Dont even get me started on the crypt scene and how Varys is hanging out in the corner. I get that the show writers want the cast to have a swansong against Cersei but they kept too many people around and I feel like the interactions will be forced going forward.

Also the cuts in this episode were terrible, had no idea what was happening, one person was about to die then they cut to Arya or the Dragons then back to that person standing and fighting again etc. Hate to be super negative about the episode but it went so far away from what made this show special in the first place. They just wanted it to be a TV version of Helms Deep.

Ooohweee! An hour and twenty minutes of non-stop battle! Fun.

Once again...

To play Devil's Advocate, what the heck are you doing in this thread if you haven't seen the episode? I haven't seen Avengers Endgame yet so you definitely won't find me lurking in those related threads.
Agree, especially regarding the complaints about the Avengers thread on the CB. C'mon people - the title actually says "SPOILERS". Why would you open that thread if not knowing the plot was important to you?!? :sad2:
Ours was too, I thought is was our internet speed.
Ha! My guess was they're running short of CGI budget so decided to economize with a repeating pattern of grainy, swirly black fog. I'm actually re-watching right now with my tv turned to the "vivid" picture setting and it's quite a bit better.
I am loving the Lady Stoneheart and Nymeria storylines.

I love the books. It has been awhile since I finished the last book out... and I had read them first on my Kindle, but my husband wants to read them and hates the e-readers, so I decided to buy the set and have started re-reading them so I will be ready when the last book(s) finally arrive
It has been some time since I read the books but if I'm correct, Lady Stoneheart is the only major plotline the show has completely ignored. I wonder why? :confused3 It wasn't my favorite but it was fairly well-developed in the books and not resolved in any way. I wonder if she will be present in GRRM's conclusion to the epic.

I read that the creators wanted us to feel like we were part of the battles so they didn’t light up the action. It was dark when the battle was taking place and they wanted us to feel the fear of the characters as they fought in the dark.

I wish I could have seen more, but I understand their perspective on keeping it dark.

Interesting perspective from the creators. I didn't mind the dark scenes that much. I loved it at times but was frustrated at others (mainly when the dragons were flying, I just couldn't see anything up there).

When they took out their swords and nodded towards one another as they were hiding in the crypt, I thought they were going to kill themselves. I don’t know why, but it struck me as funny.

I thought that they were saying okay... we have to defend the people in the crypt ... now its our turn to fight, and be brave....

Over the weekend ( Sat night) we met up with some friends that we had not seen in a while, they are all big "Thrones" fans...It was fun throwing ideas of what gonna happen... One of the guys said he thinks that Tyrion will betray Dany but not in the way most people think..... Here's what he said... In the prophecy Dany will be betrayed, for Blood, Gold, and Love... If Tyrion betrays Dany's... He will do it for Love, his love for someone else Sansa...and he will side with her... the North and King Ageon Targaryen *** They sorta set this up on Sunday night when Sansa and Tyrion were in the Crypt when she said that he was the best of them, and the looks between them when they were hiding in the crypt.... at the most they are setting them up to be together... After Sunday night... this could be a real possibility...

I think Bronn will try for Jaime and be foiled by Brienne, but Brienne will die as a result, and Jaime will lose it... fight and kill Bronn and thus finally see the light about Cersei

I think that if Jamie doesn't make it he will die in Brienne arms... The woman he loves... really loves not the hot mess with Cersi....

I’d be happy if Sansa and Tyrion got together in the end. I just don’t see any chemistry between them.

They also completely left out Jon Connington and the other (supposed) Aegon Targaryen.

Watching a second time helps in being able to see more. The first viewing was a panicked feeling and not knowing what was happening so it was difficult to follow particular people. On rewatch I could follow more closely and see who died and who lived.

I did that last night, too. You're right. It is easier to follow on the second watch.

The whole thing with the dragons was still hard. I guess it shows how difficult it would have been for Dany and Jon to find their targets in the pitch darkness.

Because if he is the real Aegon Targaryen he'd be ahead of both Jon and Dany for the Iron Throne.

Thanks. I had actually managed to work out that possibility myself.

If he's not the real Aegon Targaryen but people start to believe he is it could cause fractures and splintering of support amongst various claims for the throne, changing the dynamics of the fight -- possibly at very interesting moments of time.
