Gabfest 2009 was a great success.
Started about 10:30 with PBF, ZTH and PBF's dd12 arriving. We hung out in the kitchen while I finished up with food preparation. MM2000, her dd and Po3 and her ds arrived about 11:20. We introduced the kids to each other and let them loose.
My wonderful guests brought gifts. Jennifer got us each a Making Memories Christmas Holiday stack
and Holly gave each of us a beautiful scrapbook (mine was K & Co, PBF and ZTH got Disney ones) and this amazing embossed white cardstock stack and a pack of green cardstock for me
. Oh and I got a great FROG resuable bag from MM2000. I am soooo spoiled.
Meanwhile we loaded up our plates with *pastries* (I remembered the "r" this time
) from the Danish Pastry House and went in to sit by the fireplace in the front parlour. We talked, we laughed, we ate
and shivered because it was "wicked" cold! The wind was howling and our house is a 135 yrs old Victorian that is very well, ahem, "ventillated". Holly and Danica were snuggled under blankets, MM2000 and I were just right
.
Then it was time for make your own Paninis. We had turkey, different cheeses, roasted red peppers, sundried tomatoes and yummy potato salad, along with cheese and baguettes and grapes. We built them and DH grilled them. Kids had Holly's famous pizza strips (Max had about 5!). Holly told us her story of the grapes (which left us howling).
After lunch we all decided we would hit Joann's and Mikes so all of us went up to Randy's office (he was working at home today
) and asked him to watch the 5 kids while we went out
...He was a good sport about it. We braved the wind chill and off we went.
While in the car we could hear church bells. Holly says,"wow, that sounds like it's coming from inside your car Rhond". "It does, doesn't it, but there really isn't a church nearby with church bells". ZTH asks, does anyone have a cellphone? I'll let Holly tell the rest
.
We got to Joann's and quickly located the clearance section. You could find Holly anywhere in the store because all you had to listen for was "5 bucks, come on, it's 5 bucks
". Holly, Jennifer and I were laughing and talking about meeting for breakfast on Sundays at Panera, and this woman actually came up to us and asked us if she could be our friend and come to breakfast with us because we seemed like we were alot of fun (if she only knew
). Jennifer gave the manager a run for her money when the manager insisted that there was no 50% of Christmas Scrap Supply signs up...Guess who won that battle
Don't argue with "Jenny from the block". So after a very loooong check out process (I swear this is the worst Joann's around for this) we decided to hit Mike's and found some cute stuff there too.
We then drove to PBF's to show MM2000 and Po3 Pam and Danica's scrap space. Dropped ZTH off at work and came home to find DH making dinner for the kids (I guess I'll keep him after all). We snacked on some yummy chocolate and pretzel creations from Pam, potato chip and more cheese and baguette (did I mention we like cheese). Jennifer had left her car running to warm up before she realized that the kids were having dinner so she ran back outside to turn it to turn it off. Well...
We see the kids at the front door, and we are like, "Ok kids, get away from the door", they answer "we need to open the door". "No you don't it's freezing outside, get away from the door" - "But we need to open it" "No you don't..." Well turns out Jennifer was locked on and freezing to death out on the front porch in only her sweatshirt and was trying to get the kids to open the door for her
Oops
By then it was 7:30 and our dear friends needed to hit the road for their long drive home. The kids had an awsome day and all were fast friends. I think Max asked Holly about 10 times "Holly wouldn't it be nice if we came to your house
".
Thank you all for a *wonderful* day. You really made my holiday vacation
. I can't wait to do it again soon...You guys are the best imaginary friends a girl could have!
