It feels like FOREVER since I updated. I felt like I needed to collect a bunch of things to talk about before I wrote an update, and I have been planning slacking lately.
So... We had our engagement party! It was a while after the actual engagement, but we didn't want to do it too over the top, and we all really wanted a backyard party.
Phase 1 of this weekend, was the cake pop creation. A kitchen full of people, making 100 mickey and minnie cake pops, with no cake pop creation experience.
My mom made the cake pop bases the day before so that they would be ready for the chaos of everyone working on them. They are funfetti, of course.
The first step was to dip the stick ends in melted chocolate and put them in the cake ball.
After that cooled, my cousin was taking the chocolate discs, and with a measuring spoon, she chopped a chunk out of the circle to make the ears, and the rest went into the melting pot. We then dipped the ears in the chocolate and stuck them on the cake pops.
Then the pops (with the ears, were completely dipped in chocolate.
What we initially did not prepare was a place to put the chocolate dipped pops. So, we sent my brother out to go buy huge bags of rides. Next time, we will probably get some styrofoam or something to stick the sticks in.
We used little heart candies for minnie's bow.
When they dried, we put a little bag, and tied it with a polka dot bow.
They turned out pretty good. The ears melted a little bit when then dipped in the chocolate, so its important to have a good consistency to the chocolate when you dip so it covers in one swipe.
Everyone at the party was very impressed though! I think we are going to do it for my little cousin's first birthday.
Up next... Bridesmaid dress shopping!
