We just returned from 3 great nights at the Paradise Pier, and I wanted to make you all aware that there were some union marches while we were there and how they might affect your stay. (From the little I have learned, the Anaheim hotel workers union has been in contract negotiations with Disney, and negotiations have stalled, so they are marching in solidarity. Please correct me if I'm wrong!)
The first march we saw was around noon on Wednesday in front of the Paradise Pier, from the street corner to the main lobby entrance. Other Disney CMs were directing us around the hotel. The Anaheim PD was also present. We weren't bothered at all (and know plenty about stalled contract negotiations, since my teacher's union has been in a struggle with the school district for a year now).
The good thing was that as we approached the elevators, we were given Dream Mickey ears! Whether that was to appease us or was really a "dream," I don't know, but I was happy.
The second march I saw, I actually heard first (from the 13th floor--theme park view). It woke me up at 7am this morning--Friday. This time, I was a little bothered, as there were people banging pans and blowing on whistles, and supporters in cars driving by honking horns. It ended at 7:45, but I don't know the exact time it started (though, our neighbor said it woke her up at 6am). Luckily my kids slept through it.
I actually considered dragging my tired, aching body down to the lobby to see what was in it for me
--maybe dream fastpasses--but I didn't, and am now kicking myself.
It by NO means ruined our trip and the fabulous time we had. I'm just writing this to let you know two things: 1) If you see them marching, you may be lucky to score some dream ears, or better. 2) If you have a theme park view, you might want to request to be as high up as possible and bring a white noise machine. As I said, we were on the 13th floor and still heard it.
