This am I was searching on my account with II using a week at a non-Disney timeshare that I own. Much to my surprise, I pulled up a one bedroom at Disney's Hilton Head Resort for checkin on November 22, 2003 in a one bedroom. This is Thanksgiving week. I almost confirmed it because I have Tuesday through Thursday booked with points and Friday with cash in a one bedroom. I decided against it and just use my points. I searched further and found a one and two bedroom units check-in for December 20 during Christmas. These weeks are not peak season, but it surprised me to find holiday weeks deposited in the bank especially when the seven month window has not passed and some owners at other resorts may want these weeks.
BTW-When I went back and checked a few minutes later, the Thanksgiving unit was gone.

I don't understand how weeks being deposited before the seven month window are a surprise.

Even with this new straight points thing, its not surprising.

If I own at HH and trade II, they take time using my 11 month window. If I own HH and trade II and there is value in using VB time, that VB time would be subject to the seven month window.

Neither of these situatuions have any reason to respect other owners......and as long as the 7-11 month rules are followed, they souldn't.

This is the first time I have seen holiday weeks in II from Disney. Maybe only today because I am home from church with a sick child. Recently there was a thread on this board with concern from some members about II getting holiday or highly demanded weeks before the seven month window opened up if Disney's policy with II changed about which weeks it deposits. In the past it used to be non-holiday weeks. So you think these weeks that are deposited belong to owners at HH? I own four other ts weeks besides my points at DVC. I have learned a great deal from Dean and would like his opinion on this new trading policy. Is this good for DVC members or II members or both? II recently changed their policy from maximum trading power at 90 days deposited to ten or eleven months out. I am not certain which.

Becky, Thanksgiving and Xmas is a pretty slow time at HH and DVC weeks have been there at times over the past few years. I've even seen WDW 4th of July weeks in II over the past couple of months. There has been a plethora of studios for summer and spring as well as a number of 1 BR units for Sept and Oct for all WDW resorts including BCV, VWL and BWV. I've seen a number of 1 and 2 BR VB units as well. I even pulled a Sept 1 BR BWV unit using a bonus week. DVC assures me that they are not doing developer deposits but I'm not convinced. This issue of using high demand weeks to deposit with II is a significant shift from previous policy and is concerning to me.

Thanks Dean for your input. I knew about the units this summer at Lake Buena Vista and the fall ones, but did not know about the Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks at HH DVC. Usually I only pulled early December or January, Feb, or early March in HH. Next year I may try for a trade with my Foxrun week that was pulling them instead of using my points.

You can also have your choice of Marriott's during this time including Grande Ocean if you plan enough ahead.

Dean: I'm still new to this part of DVC. Why does it concern you and should it concern all of us?

Thanks,
HBC

Currently there is a Barony available for Thanksgiving week and a Grande Ocean for the week before and after. For Xmas there are essentially any week you want in a Marriott including GO, Barony and Heritage (free golf for 2).
