FYI- Allergen-Free Cake Info

Perhaps this has already been mentioned... but the cake billed as "allergen-free" by Special Diets is not in fact guaranteed to be peanut/tree-nut free, as it is baked by BabyCakes NYC's bakery at DTD. BIG disappointment for the nut-allergy sufferers out there... Looks like an order of Divvies cupcakes may be in order.

It looks like it's due in part to this issue with the coconut. So they might still be okay for some people. I've eaten there with a peanut and soy allergy many times and always been fine, but obviously everyone's allergies are different.

They are peanut free. They cannot claim to be tree-nut free because of coconut.

Personally For me, that's not the issue. I am allergic to tree nuts but i am NOT allergic to coconut. We have 2 here in LA and I go there all the time. So it all depends on the individuals allergies.

So as with most allergies, there is not a blanket statement saying it is not safe. For some it is, and some it is not.

Also, I thought the allergen free cakes originally provided by Diseny were NOT peanut/tree nut safe because of cross contamination anyway (at least not peanut safe)?

Last time I called (before babycakes was providing cakes) they told me they could not guarantee the cakes to be peanut free (even the allergen ones) because of cross contamination.

It's in an issue in probably 99% of bakeries unless they are peanut free bakeries.

We've had two different allergy friendly cakes at Disney.

We've had the allergy friendly cake that we ordered through the cake hotline which was peanut/tree nut free as well as gluten, dairy and maybe egg free? My cousin is allergic to peanut/tree nuts and I am to dairy so I'm only 100% certain it was free of those three things.

This last time we had a cake from BabyCakes which we ordered directly through BabyCakes. My cousin was not there so we didn't have to worry about that allergy but I know those cakes cannot be guaranteed peanut/tree nut free.

As far as I'm aware, they are still offering both varieties.

Hi There!

Thanks for asking about our products!

We are unable to claim that the bakery is "nut-free" for a few reasons. First, we use coconut in a number of our recipes. Also, the flour that we use is packaged by Bob's Red Mill on equipment that also packages almond flour and hazelnut flour. The facility power washes the equipment, and discards the first 30 lbs between runs, for this reason, we are unable to claim to be "nut-free."

We do not bake with peanuts, and to our knowledge, none of our vendors share equipment with peanuts. However, we similarly do not guarantee our products to be "peanut-free."
