Thought I'd post this-we just got back from a stay at DL and at Huntington Beach. We absolutely loved HB!! It was a little chilly while we were there, but the beach was clean and not crowded. We stayed at the Hyatt and it was terrific. Cheaper than DL Grand Californian, and quite frankly, a nicer hotel. We hope to go back there someday. Kids surfed and did body boarding and we just enjoyed the beach. We walked the half mile to the pier each day and had fun exploring the Main Street area. If you are a resident of Huntington Beach-I envy you!!

Thanks for posting! We are going to HB and staying at the Hyatt in July. I've never been to that beach and am really excited to stay beachfront. I do have questions for you:

1. How's the pool at the Hyatt? Is it fun and interesting for kids?
2. Are the rooms nice?
3. What are some good places to eat there?

Thanks so much!

The pool at the Hyatt is pretty large and beautifully landscaped. It does not have any "extras" that kids would especially like (slides, etc.). The rooms are beautiful and big. Be careful of closing the balcony door when you are outside unless you are certain it is unlocked. DS got stuck out there for about an hour until the rest of us came back to the room. The Hyatt is about 1/2 mile from the HB pier/Main street area. We walked down there everyday to eat and there are plenty of good restaurants (expensive and not so expensive). We did not eat at the hotel at all. The Hyatt sits right on the HB state park beach I think, and it is a beautiful beach and very clean. Have fun!!

Thank you for this post! DH, me and DD's 15 and 11 will be flying into Los Angeles and exploring for a week before heading to Las Vegas for a second week of our summer vacation in August.
I know NOTHING about California as a travel destination (we have never been) and have been having a difficult time trying to plan our stay.
There doesn't seem to be the family type resorts with amazing pools like they have in Florida. No lazy river pools etc. And I haven't been able to find resorts like Horizons, Reunion Resort...that type of place that we have enjoyed.
I was looking at The Hyatt Huntington Beach last night. I am glad to have seen this thread today.:cutie:

Yes, Huntington Beach is a great area to vacation! My brother-in-law lives there. Went to visit him 4 years ago. The beach is huge, clean and beautiful! There are many food options in the area. For a great breakfast, head out to the end of the pier...I can't remember the name of it, but it was a nice place to eat. Also, for a special, but a bit expensive, place for dinner, try Duke's (I think that's the name of it). Anyway, we all had a great time.

Huntington Beach's web site is surfcityusa.com. We discovered an antique/muscle car show in HB while we were there that my teenage boys loved, and a surfing competition by checking out the web site. If you plan on visiting the Surfing Museum, it has pretty "loose" hours apparently. We could never find it open. The place to eat at the end of the pier is Ruby's. It is like a 1950's diner. Has GREAT milkshakes. We ate at Duke's, too, and also thought it was very good (tho kind of expensive).

Great pics, pppiglet! The Hyatt HB looks very nice.

pittypat: thanks for the tip about the balcony door. it's too bad the pool doesn't have a waterslide or anything as fancy as what we have experienced at resorts in Hawaii or Florida. but maybe that's a good thing in that my kids won't be stuck in the hotel pool when there's so much in HB to explore!

Being from Northern CA we visit several times a year. Wonderful clean beach with lots of parking. Last stay was at the Hilton for the Surf City Marathon. Dukes has good food also try the place below - more outdoor patio seating almost right on the beach. Also a good Mexican place about a block up from the beach - it's on the second floor - very crowded and loud in the evening but better at lunch. Check out Jacks and HSS for surf clothes. If you have the time go south down the coast to Newport Beach - another wonderful beach town!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
