We were unable to get into FW over the Memorial day weekend, so we booked the weekend at another campground. It was highly rated. I guess we have been infected with the FW camping obsession. We spent the entire weekend compairing the lack of things to do:sad2:  :sad2: with everything we could have done at FW. We have two small children, and all weekend they asked to go to the playground or the pool. The one we were at did have a pool, but it wasn't heated and the water was about -5 degrees, and did not have a playground. The only thing that made the weekend bearable was that they did have a fishing pond. My 4 year old daughter:angel: had a ball catching the small bream. Luckely we have about 5 weekends reserved at FW in the next two months.:cool1:  :woohoo: :goodvibes

Anyone else not able to find satisfaction at other CG after experiencing FW a feww times?

I agree there is no other campground for my family but FW! We went to another campground and my kids just kept saying "It isn't the Fort!" and I knew how they felt!:rotfl:

I know I'm in the vast minority here, but I do think there are much nicer campgrounds with more to do than FW. Some of the Outdoor Resorts are much nicer. We frequent Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach, and although the accommodations aren't quite as nice (lack of trees) there are many more activities. Just do some research and you'll come up with other great CGs. If you take away all the parks, FW is just so-so. I certainly wouldn't pay their rates for such cramped camp sites if it weren't for proximity to the parks.

Perhaps it's a location thing...when you can almost taste FW from where you're at?

We camp a lot doing long weekends in Northern Michigan - really nice areas at the top of the mitten. Beautiful scenery there and the very peaceful atmosphere earns the area points when compared with "The Fort"....The Fort doesn't always feel like "true" camping when we're there (that's a good thing, though :thumbsup2 )

When we really camp I'm at the trailer more or we're hiking more (on non-paved, ungroomed trails). We find the campgrounds that really look that camping still compare - not in man-made entertainment, but in outdoor entertainment.

Come on up to Petoskey sometime... :)

I dson't think you are in the minority, I do think that everyone will have their favorite campgrounds. I think that it depends on your location as well as your situation. One of the reason we like FW so much is that we get a real kick out of the enjoyment that our two kids experience at the fort.:yay: :cheer2:  :cool1: It doesn't seem as their level of excitement has been as high at any of the other campgrounds we have been to.

I would never question anyone else for their choice of a favorite, just wanteds to find out if there were others that felt the same as we do.

The fact that it our current fave could change at any time if we found a place that was more fun.

I don't really think FW should be compared to other campgrounds, because it's kind of a different beast. It's one of the only campgrounds that is closely surrounded by major theme parks, and is also more geared towards people taking short trips, non-hardcore campers, and is definitely more of a "touristy" place.

My parents spend 7 months in their fifth wheel in a campsite outside the main lodge at East Glacier in Glacier National Park in Montana. That campsite is definitely more rustic, but the views and just the overall atmosphere is amazing. But I wouldn't even think about comparing it to Fort Wilderness, it's just not the same kind of thing.
