We just got home tonight from a wonderful week at Fort Wilderness. Neither of us had been there before, and it was my first time staying at a moderate since Dixie Landings as a child.

I have to say, we have never had such a wonderful time. The cabins are gorgeous, and it's sublimely nice to have the privacy of not hearing your hotel neighbors at all hours of the night/morning. I made coffee every morning and enjoyed it on the front porch as the sun rose. One morning, I did a five mile run around the resort loops, and enjoyed seeing all the Mickey decorated RVs.

We thought the food at Trail's End was delicious, and fairly priced. Our cabin was within walking distance to the Outpost, so we sometimes walked to the park buses, and took our golf cart down to the Settlement several times a day.

We also, one morning, went horseback riding. Neither one of us had been on a horse in at least twenty years, but we were so impressed with the 45 minute trail ride. Our guides were friendly and knowledgable, and our horses, Riley and Merlin, were beautiful and well cared for. Definitely a perk of staying at FW.

We went to Chip and Dale's Sing-a-long, and enjoyed roasting marshmallows, as well. It was just a quick boat ride to the MK to see Wishes immediately after.

My only complaint is the size of the beds. My husband and I are not large people, but the not-quite full size bed was very small, and I was pretty tempted to sleep on the bunk beds. I think it would be better if some cabins ditched the bunk beds and got a nice queen size bed.

Anyway, I was overall thrilled with Fort Wilderness. I'm staying at AKL in January for Marathon week, but we will definitely be back at FW next summer.

Glad you had a great trip! We are looking at the cabins for our next trip with the kids, so it's nice to hear such a glowing review. :goodvibes

Thanks for sharing! :)

I'm debating on staying at the cabins as well! Are you like, in the middle of no where? Or can you walk to the main resort?

While growing up, my parents were always campers, and I always stayed at Fort Wilderness. Now that I'm grown, but NOT a camper, I'd love to stay at Fort Wilderness, but the size of the beds has been the biggest detractor from that idea. I, too, wish they would put some queen or king size beds in a couple of cabins to give some more choices there.

There's no "main resort." The outpost (reception) is on one end, where the transportation to EPCOT, DHS and DAK is. The restaurants and marina, with boats to MK is at the other end, a mile away. There are buses that go back and forth from 7am to 2am, but most people rent golf carts and just drive the 3 minutes in either direction themselves.

We are staying in the cabins Oct 31 - Nov 11. I have been trying to find out about the coffee pots there. I had read that there was a 10 cup drip Mr Coffee, but also read there was a single serve also (K cup or pod). Can you verify? Thanks in advance.

In our cabin there was only a Mr. Coffee. No single serve pot.

Thanks for the reply! I will be there with my daughter, son-in-law and my 3 year old grandson. 75 days and counting!

We stayed in the cabins last October. Best trip ever!!! We were there over Halloween and the decorations were amazing! The RV section really goes all out. There are also some fun little Halloween happenings going on at this resort that make it unique from other resorts like the golf cart parade, the haunted carriage ride, Mickey's Backyard BBQ Halloween night, etc. this is the only resort I would want to be at for Halloween. In general, the cabins and resort are fantastic! I love that each cabin has its own parking space and kitchen. The porch is wonderful for relaxing and taking in some fresh air. Our only downside is that we had 6 in the cabin and one bathroom was torture so if you're going with this size group, I'd request a cabin near public restrooms. We really enjoyed the campfire sing along and marshmallow roast with Chip&Dale and the outdoor movie (the screen is huge!). We also loved watching the fireworks and electric water parade from the beach. Another plus point is being able to take the boat to MK, it's a nice way to arrive at your most favorite place on earth. Trails End was surprisingly very good. We hadn't heard much about this restaurant and weren't sure what to expect, but we absolutely loved it! There is really so much more to do at this resort, but these were our favorite highlights.
