Preacher: God told him about storms, tsunami
Robertson says warning was for this year; tsunami might hit Northwest

The Associated Press
Updated: 11:30 a.m. ET May 18, 2006

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - In another in a series of notable pronouncements, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says God told him storms and possibly a tsunami will hit America's coastline this year.

Robertson has made the predictions at least four times in the past two weeks on his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network, which he founded.

Robertson said the revelations about this year's weather came to him during his annual personal prayer retreat in January.

"If I heard the Lord right about 2006, the coasts of America will be lashed by storms," Robertson said May 8. On Wednesday, he added, "There well may be something as bad as a tsunami in the Pacific Northwest."

Robertson has come under intense criticism in recent months for suggesting that American agents should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution for Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip.

While I do think Pat Robertson is completely off his rocker, and don't believe he has any kind of divine knowledge anyone else would not have, I also believe tsunami preparedness along our coasts is pretty much non-existent. Seismologists have plenty of warning, but I've never seen how they could effectively evacuate such a heavily populated area versus a current travelling several hundred miles per hour. If it takes a nutjob like Pat R. to get some DR planning along the west (and east) coasts, then more power to him, I suppose. All it takes is an earthquake in the right spot and large population centers could be wiped out far worse than Katrina hit New Orleans. And the northwest coast is not significantly further away from the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Rim area than the southwest coast is.

I don't suppose this tsunami is going to hit the coast on 06-06-06, is it? :stir:

Did he contend that this was some form of Divine retribution in response to disagreement with part of Pat's political agenda?

What I want to know is who actually watches this show anymore, and/or takes him seriously?

And believe me Pat Robertson spooting off about this stuff is not going to get anyone more prepared for a Tsunami. If anything, it will cause people not to prepare for one. ;)

Ahhh heck, if you're going to make predictions, have the balls to not hedge your bets like this...

Way to be bold, Pat

HAHAHA!

We lived in Virginia Beach, which is where the film everything. We actually lived about 5 minutes from it. Even had our first "wedding" (ahem. courthouse) wedding reception there... just brunch, but it's a gorgeous location.

I digress. So, you can imagine how often the 700 Club is on TV down there. I found some of the stories interesting- like the actual journalism- but found him unbearable. I hate how he just starts spouting stuff off.

I've always had this vision of him being brought up on absolutely horrific criminal charges for some reason. Maybe becuase I don't believe that he is THAT spiritual and perfect? I don't know. If he is, more power to him.

He is the reason that I will not take any education classes at Regent University even with it not costing me a cent. That man is a nut job and I'd sooner fork out the money for my Highly Qualified classes than even step foot on his campus!!

Yes, I was oh so thrilled to hear his pronouncement on the radio this morning. Pat Robertson is unbelievable.

NO WAY!!!! Storms on the Atlantic Coast, with hurricane season fast approaching???? Why not just predict that the sun will rise in the east and set in the west??

:lmao: My thoughts exactly! Like Dr. House said, "Next time, tell Jesus to be more specific." :)

DH just said there was a program on TV a couple of days ago that talked about the fault line in the Pacific Northwest.

His "divine intervention" is the Discovery Channel.:lmao:

My dh has forbid me to apply to graduate school there and he said the same thing as you. He doesn't want to give him his money.

Please, people, don't make issue with the word forbid. I can stand on my own and I am my own person.
