Furniture from Haverty's?

We've decided to redo DS's bedroom for his birthday in July (He'll be 3 and right now he still has all of his baby stuff...his crib converted to a toddler bed). I've been looking around the internet at various sites, getting very frustrated that none have prices! Anyways, we have a Haverty's here. I've never been to the store, but I checked out their website and see some cute stuff. I'm just wondering if it's "cheap" furniture since the prices are a lot lower than I was expecting!

Is the furniture you're looking at a namebrand? We bought some pieces a couple years ago and beat Haverty's price by a good bit, but Haverty's was the first place I saw it. I went on the manufacturer's website and found places that sold the brand. I made phone calls to get the best price and ended up getting it at a place 20 minutes from my house. Ironically, like a lot of NC furniture stores, it was a hole in the wall I never would have gone to! B/c Haverty's is a chain, their prices aren't particularly competitive in North Carolina. Many, many NC furniture stores ship, too.

I think of Haverty's as a medium price/quality place. The pieces we priced there were medium-quality namebrand -- Hooker. I think of things like Broyhill as low-end namebrand and brands like Century, Southwood and Councill as high end namebrand.

That's hard to say because I know they carry some lines that could be referred to as "budget". They also carry some very nice lines...especially the ones that are special ordered. :thumbsup2 Do you happen to know who the manufacturer is of the furniture you're interested in?

I don't see a specific manufacturer on the website. Do they have their own line? That's what it looks like it may be. I'm torn about spending a lot for a bed...spend a lot and risk DS ruining it, or spend a little and it gets ruined because it's so cheap. Does that make sense? lol!

Haverty's does have their own line of furniture and it's usually good quality. (Not heirloom, but certainly not junk either.) You could phone tomorrow and ask to speak with a salesperson and give them the item number from their online site and ask who the manufacturer is. And Tarheel is right....the major brands can usually be ordered at a great savings! My mom and I have been doing it for years and years. :teeth:

We bought our livingroom furniture from Haverty's 6 years ago. An oversized couch both in length and width (remove the back cushions and you almost have a fullsized bed.....it only has one seat cushion where most couches have 2-3) and the chair is oversized...fits 2 people....also has only 1 cushion. You can place the ottoman lengthwise and it would make a twin bed for someone if needed. The furniture movers called my couch Shaq :rotfl: After 6 years of use, there are no signs of wear. Cushions are still just as sturdy as they ever were. No squeaks from the wooden frame either. I just wish I had bought the loveseat that went with this set. :guilty: I might add that this set was not cheap. We paid over $2,000 for the 3 pieces. Well worth it. I expect this furniture to outlast me.

I should mention originally we bought the pull out sofa. There was a defect in the frame of the bed part....was angled wrong and caused the solid cushion of the couch to fall forward even though there are hanger hookes to help keep it in place. They replaced the couch with another one and when my brother and his wife spent the weekend, my brother, being a very tall and bulky guy, sat on the bed to crawl in, the metal on the bedframe bent (the zigzag portion that connects to the wooden frame) . In my opinion, very poor construction.....weak metal. So, we just decided to stick with a plain couch and axe the idea of a pull out.

Hey Skuttle,

We had been doing some serious furniture shopping lately and practically went around to every single furniture store in BR. From what I saw Haverty's did have some very nice stuff. The reason we went with Home Furniture for our living room (couch, ottoman, loveseat, entertainment center, 2 end tables and a coffee table) is because the couch stuff came in a set and it was cheaper than most other places (by about $600-$1000) that we had shopped around to.

Now pretty soon we're going to be redoing our bedroom as well as Devyn's. I think for ours, we may end up at Olinde's but for Devyn's we may go with Haverty's. Their kids section looked really nice. And it impressed me more than the other kids sections at other places. Although I've been trying to convince Devyn to try to go with more grown up ideas (since she is almost 12) but that hasn't sparked yet. She's still into white furniture with pink trim.

Good luck with your hunt!!!

Also, FWIW, Haverty's prices in my opinion were in the medium price range. Not as expensive as say.... Olinde's or Kirchman's but not as cheap as Home Furniture.

always buy our stuff from Havertys. very pleased except for our last sofa. some of the springs have broken, BUT had a hard time keeping our son from jumping on it :Pinkbounc so that might have done it. Overall we find their stuff very well constructed and will continue to buy from them.

Although, my furniture is not from Haverty's (I looked there and did not see what I wanted at the time) - I have several friends who buy exclusively from Haverty's. One is an Interior Designer, and furnished her mother's condo at the beach from there.... She recommended them to me when I was furniture shopping.

Haverty's has a lot of their own furniture in the store.

I fell in love with a counter height dining room table there-no one else had them at the time. Looked everywhere else, and went with theirs. Very glad I did, as I can find counter height tables now, but none like theirs.

Our chairs started coming apart-they replaced them (they weren't screwed together right by the delivery guys). The leaf in the table doesn't stay in place and they're coming out to fix it, and it was delivered almost a year ago. I'm extremely impressed with their service.

Thanks everyone!

Poohnatic: I saw a picture of your table. I did a search on the DIS before asking my question. It's beautiful.

Des: Thanks for the heads up! Our bedroom set is from Kirschman's and I love it. We've had it for 7 years and it's still beautiful. I plan on having it forever. I wish more places would have stuff online that way I wouldn't have to drive all over town!

ETA: Here's what I'm looking at...the twin slat bed. http://www.havertys.com/catalog/group.do?group=HVT620+Youth
