I am trying to find a company to do this so I don't know if it is even possible but I thought of doing an electronics/appliance recycling fundraiser. The companies I have contacted, but have not gotten back to me yet, charge per item, around $10-15. I thought we could set up collection trailers in the school parking lot on a Saturday and take donations charging $5 over what the company charges, so if they charge $10 for a computer monitor, we would charge $15, keeping the extra $5 for our booster club account (for the girls golf team). Is this something you would participate in if someone offered it in your area? I am trying to come up with ideas where we don't have to SELL anything (although we are doing a Christmas centerpiece sale-which does well because people buy them anyway). I don't want to spend a Saturday sitting at the school if no one would come :lmao:.

Im going to be very honest and get flamed for this but i REFUSE to pay for reclycing of an item. It goes in the trash. Sorry but I'm on a budget and paying to throw something out to be "green" is not happening. I think best buy has a program like this too and for some things they give you a gift card in return.

So my answer to you is no, I would not participate in something like that.

And I'd be willing to bet that you are, by far, not alone. It's a nice idea, but I don't see it being super-successful for this reason.

I wouldn't pay for this service since my town does this for free. You may have better luck with a group yard sale.

Ok, I wouldn't pay for it either if I had a choice. Here you can't throw things like computer monitors, old TV's, appliances in the garbage and you do have to pay to take them to a recycling center. I wish we had free disposal or I wouldn't have 3 computers and 3 tv's sitting in my storage room waiting to be tossed (which is how I came up with that idea) :lmao:.

Your idea may work for your area since you need to pay to recycle electronics. If I had to pay I'd take my items to a fundraiser. Here it would not work we have free recycling once a month for electronics.

Probably not for some of the same reasons above posters mentioned.

If I was going to do it as a fundraiser though, I'd first talk to the recycling company and see if I could do it as a one day/one weekend type thing and if the company would be willing to donate a percentage of what they charge as opposed to tacking on the extra money KWIM. I'd also do it in the spring and theme it around Earth day. People tend to feel more "green" at that time and are spring cleaning and getting rid of stuff.

We have free electronics recycling around here every once in a while, so I probably wouldn't pay (even for a fundraiser)

Here's another idea though. Our church youth group collected used clothing and small household items for a cash profit. This company came and picked up all the donations and they got paid by the pound? Ton? I don't know...but it was quite successful!

Sorry I don't know of the name, but maybe Google will help!

Nope, not alone.

We have started an electronic recycling program at work and employees are able to bring in their personal electronic equipment in. It cost $8 per pound! Our township does a "spring cleanup" every year where they have dumpsters you can haul your stuff to at the township building, anything you have and want to throw away aside from tires. Usually you drive up with a truck full of your junk and before you can even get out of the vehicle, it is unloaded and sorted as dumpster materials, appliances, and electronics.

No, but our school has done a recycling fundraiser where we just brought in items and the school got a certain amount of money. We didn't have to pay a thing :confused3

I think there are too many areas where this isn't needed and you really have no way of knowing how "recycle-minded" people are in your area..

It would be nice if you could come up with something really unique - that hasn't been done before - that people would be really excited about.. But what? Hmmm.. Something to think on..:goodvibes
