Southern California Fun things to do with kids near Newport?

We are going to be staying in Newport next week while DH has a conference and I will be on my own with kids, ages 2 and 4. We stayed at the same hotel this summer and I had a hard time finding fun things to do with the kids. I'll be taking them to DL for a couple of days but I need ideas for the other days. We've already done a lot of LA things like the natural history museum, car museum and tar pits. I don't want to drive too far with them either since we will be doing a lot of driving on our DL days. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Santa Ana Zoo -- small-scale

Decorations and small train at Fashion Island mall
