Fun OUT of the Sun at the resorts?

I'm going for a 12-day Disney trip, starting next week!

I usually go in the winter, because I am *very* sensitive to heat and sun. Since I'm going in May this time, I'm going to try to stay inside during the hottest part of the day. I'm trying to make a list of indoor activities. I might go to Disney Quest, or shop at Downtown Disney, but I'm also wondering if there are fun things to do at the resorts. I'll be staying onsite and am a DVC member, so I don't think it's considered trespassing!

Any interesting shops, displays to look at (hmmm...these are probably better in winter, with all the Christmas stuff) -- things like that? I might try going to one of the spas (for something relatively inexpensive, like a manicure.)

I'll actually have some work to do, and will be solo most of the trip -- any good places to get coffee and people watch, while I maybe do a little reading or writing?

Go to AKL, get a nice cup of coffee or a soda, and sit out on one of the covered public balconies to watch the animals!

I'll be going in August (only time we can go!) and I have to stay out of the sun as much as possible as well. I figure it's going to be too hot to be outside much anyways, and plan to see a lot of shows. I'm also going to cover myself with 45 SPF sunscreen.

I like to go to the different resorts with the Hidden Mickey book and try and find the Mickeys. I spend some time in the shops, have a coffee/ice tea/snack in one or 2 of the rest. area. Talk to the CM's... and sometimes just sit in the lobby and people view(I even took a book and read a little). We spent a few days doing that last trip cause we wanted to see the different places to stay to try and decide where we will stay on site, and what was the differences. I love DQ, which is strange, cause I hate video games... If you do go to the parks how about planing the days around all the indoor shows at each? They all have several, or even the shops in the parks?
Hope this helps, sorry I can't think of more stuff. Have you got #60 sunscreen? and a mist fan? and you know they will give you free ice and water any where in the parks.... take the small Crystal lite indiviual pouches if you hate Fl water.

I know the WL has a list of hidden Mickey's. This resort is under one roof , so you will be fine. Have lunch at WCC and then go on a Mickey hunt!

The BWI has a lovely, large covered outdoor porch with lots of rocking chairs. You could get a cold drink and people watch from there.

I have a little fan that I can wear around my neck, but it's not a mist fan. I'm wondering where I can find a mist fan. Does Walmart usually sell these? Or should I look when I get to Kissimmee?

Wal Mart has them, sometimes. Also try all the drug stores, Walgreen, Keers, and others.

and then you could allways sleep in late, like past 6:30 or 7 am...
have what ever you want to eat and not share, then eat again in an hour, if you find good choclate... how about going on a dessert crawl, kinda like a pub crawle but looking for good desserts..

I was in Disney last August, and the heat was bad - but not as bad as I had anticipated. I am a pooh sized woman, very fair skinned. Went to the parks in the morning, pool midday - where you found me under an umbrella with SF 30 on. Went back into the parks in the late afternoon/early evening. Came back as pale as I went. LOL.

I didn't find that much worse than being in Boston during the summer - but I don't have any illnesses or physical limitations, besides the added weight.

You could try to head to Epcot in the afternoons....go thru the pavilions, and walking from one to the next wouldn't actually be out in the sun too much. Have tea at the GF, take the monorail around and shop at the hotels.

Hi susy! Where do you get the list of hidden Mickey? At the guest service? And then what? They tell you where to look for it and you just try to find it? Sorry if those were dumb questions. I have never really done any hidden Mickey hunt before and I would like for my kids to hunt. I think they will enjoy that. Thanks!! Anyone, please let me know. Thanks!

My suggestion would be Disney Quest. It is dark and cool! They have Cheesecake factory desserts and food counter and an Internet Cafe.
My boys love it and I always find a spot in the Cafe with a big piece of chocolate cake while Dh and the boys game. I get to check in on the Dis and plan the rest of our vacation days.

Great for a really hot day or a rainy day.
