Any recommendations for a fun game I could get my freshman college son for Christmas that he could take back to school? They have really enjoyed Apples to Apples but have pretty much played that to death so I'm looking for something new. Appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

I love Taboo, but that's an old one.

Do they have Cranium? That's a fun one.

I haven't played it, but I've always thought Imaginiff looked fun.

Munchkin!!!!!!!

It's a series of cardish games that is a spoof of D&D

We play for hours.

Cranium is really fun because there's a lot of different things to do in the game--it doesn't get boring.

I really like Pit -- an old one but super fun, especially for groups. Like Apples, very easy to learn and addictive. I also recently bought VisualEyes, which is a good small group game (lots of colorful cubes with pictures on them - you race against each other to make phrases from them ... really excellent!)

I'll second pit. We do a lot of work with college students, and this game is ALWAYS a big hit. It is never boring, and it gives them a chance to yell and scream and act crazy all in the name of fun.

A third vote for pit. Like others said, it's a great game for a group of people and gets everyone riled up and yelling. You do fast paced trading of cards with others by calling out how many you want to trade. Reminds me of the stock market. Actually I keep saying someone should do some psychological work on the affects of playing pit on people and draw some implications for capitalism or something. I mean, many of my friends (and myself) are usually extremely mild mannered, yet one round into Pit we're yelling at each other for not going fast enough and slamming our losing hands onto the table. Does competition in the marketplace really bring out the words in people? Okay, so we usually enjoy it most when drinking--not that your son will be doing any of that at college ;) --hence my theorizing about psychology experiments. But seriously, it's a fun game.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm ordering Pit and considering some of the others.

We have Imaginiff and it is really fun!!
