We're recent full timers and would like to spend some time at Fort Wilderness. Do they let you stay for 2 or 3 months at a time. It's just me and my hubby and our dog Corky the Yorky :) Is there any particulars we should know about FW before we call for resevations?
Thanks
Amy

It could be very expensive. Before your rate was based on your first night and stayed that way through your stay. Now you are charged daily rates that change through out your stay.

It is still possible though. Your maximum reservation can be 30 nights, repeat as necessary. At a minimum, you will have to go to the front desk, check out, and check back in again at the end of each reservation, at a maximum (but rare) you will have to change sites.

The Full Timer life is all new to us but we're loving it. We sold our primary home and decided to travel. We started on the Eastern Seaboard and went South. We have no real plans, just come and go as we feel. I'm sure I'll be asking alot more questions as I learn how much I really don't know. :rotfl2:

Wow-good for you guys! I think that's great. My husband is so excited to retire and try full timing. About 3 more years I think. Have fun!

That's fantastic! Please check back in to ask questions and let us know how life on the road is!

Congrats!!! As others have said, yes you can stay that long, you might just have to re-check in after a month or so, but it's rare that they would make you switch sites or anything.

There are quite a few "long term campers" that stay at the Fort on a yearly basis, I'm sure you'll get to know them if you stay for a while as well.

Trust me, we're all jealous, I would be happy just to stay for a month!!! ;) Once again, congratulations on your new found status, enjoy!

When I grow up I want to be just like you!

Ditto. I ask my husband the other day what will our girls do when we sell the homeplace to rv fulltime. Of course he thinks daddy's little girls are never going to grow up and leave him.

:) He'll feel that way tiil they reach about 15 or so...by the time they reach 18, he'll be on his knees, face up to the heavens above, arms stretched out, praying "For THE LOVE OF GOD, when will she EVER MOVE OUT!!!!!!"

Of coarse that emotion immediately subsides the second he see's her looking in the classifieds or on apartmentfinders.com!!!! Then, suddenly...its all "What are you looking for??? Why would you be so stupid as to move out. You cant afford to leave home!! Dont be ridiculous!!!!"

Daddyism is a tough disease.

I know how ya feel Rog. My oldest didn't do too well in college and has moved out and it's killin' me. Him and his girlfriend don't make much and he also has a new car to support. I'd much rather feed him and give him a roof, then bail him out of somethin stupid like bounced checks, ruinin his credit, etc.

However, my youngest is doing great in college and is still home, but driving me crazy. Not workin, and not helping much around here, BUT he'll probably be making close to 6 figures as soon as he graduates.

4 More years till we retire to Full timing in a motorhome and our 2nd youngest daughter said we'll have to get a teardrop to pull behind us for her and her DH.

I stay for about 8 to 10 weeks in the summer, but I have to take my girls and the boy. My hubby makes me!:rotfl:

For what its worth, I have never had to move my camper when I check back in.

If you are so inclined and are at WDW during the busy season like Christmas, there are stories of people who hired on as seasonal cast members; one of the perks of which is the cast member discount at the Fort. It might be good to defray the costs of your staying by putting working part-time there.

The 30-day limit holds true and the rate is based on whatever you can get each day. You might want to look at getting an Annual Pass for one of your party so you can possibly get an Annual Pass discounted rate at the Fort too. You just have to do the math and see if it makes sense for you. Personally I think 2-3 months in the fall would be s-w-e-e-t :rotfl:

Respectfully disagreeing here. Yes.... you can hire on and work part time, full time or be considered a seasonal employee. No.... you will not get a discount on your site. That ended back in the late 90's. AP discounts on a FtW are as rare as hen's teeth. I've had an AP since the mid-80's and have NEVER been able to snag one of those.

As far as being a cast member & staying long term at FtW.... it's a good mix. I did it in 2003 when we stayed at FtW for 3 months. As a seasonal or part time employee, you basically tell them when you want to work (within reason). As part time or seasonal, you do get one Key to the Kingdom pass for free (which is sort of like an AP except it gets revoked when you terminate employment), a discount on an AP for you & spouse (if you don't want the KttK pass), and IIRC, 4 or 6 one-day passes per month (only good that month so you can't stack them up).
There are some other perks too --- teeny-weeny perks like coupons for free sodas, pop corn, ice cream bars, and the like.

At Christmas they give cast members a really neat package of deals like free meals for four at any one of the good sit down restaurants like Boma's or Cape May etc... 75% discount at DTD stores, and other christmassy perks.

It's a fun place to work if you don't mind standing on your feet a lot and dealing with tourists like.... well.... US!!:rotfl2:

I have found the AAA rate for the campsites to be better than the Passholder rate.
