Hi. Our family is going to Disney in 2 wks. We want to stay a couple extra days, but Fort Wilderness cabins (where we are staying) is booked. This trip is for two older teens and two adults. I was wondering how Port Orleans (either side) or Old Key West would compare. What are the pluses and/or minuses? I know Port Orleans is cheaper, but is it worth the difference in price (about $70 a night more) for a studio in Key West? Any other special suggestions?

hmm...tough choice. OKW is definetly the nicer of the 2 but a studio at OKW will be a little bigger than the average hotel room. You will have 2 queen beds and it will have a kitchenette with a small fridge, microwave, coffee pot and toaster. It will also have a much bigger bathroom and a balcony w/table and chairs. The resort itself is also beautiful and has 4 pools all with a hot tub at each. And a small boardwalk-like area called turtle crawl where you'll find Goods to go sandwich/snack stand, the Gurgling Suitcase pool bar, community hall/hanks rent and return which will have pool towels, surrey bike and boat rentas and movie rentals, activities for kids, you can also book massages. In this same area you'll find the Hospitality house (check-in area) and the general store and Olivia's sit down resturaunt - very good btw. The main pool does not have a slide but will be closing in Sept. for rehab to install one. During which time guests will be shuttled to SSR to be aloud to use their pool;) If you'll have a car with you, you can also park right in front of your villa.

POR on the other hand, will be less expensive but no Kitchenette and smaller. 2 double beds and a coffee pot. No balcony. But the main pool will have a water slide and you can use the pools at POR and FQ as they are sister resorts. There's also plenty of recreation available at this resort - boating, fishing, surrey bikes. You'll also have Boatwrights sit down resturaunt and a nice food court .

Tough decison but hope this helps narrow it down a little for you. Best of luck:wave:

Thanks! Knowing the details really helps. Both resorts sound nice in their own ways. We are driving down, so the fact that you can get to your car so easily from Old Key West is a real plus if we can arrange it. I appreciate your time- it really helped!

Also, you may want to call back again sometimes people cancel or change their reservations. We were told last yr when we wanted to add days that their was none available. We hung up and called back and the lady said that she could add the extra days but we could not get a discount on the cabins for the extra days.
:sunny:

I would also continue to call every day about the cabins. Remember, guests have up to 5 days before arrival to cancel without penalty & sometimes people do this. I pieced together a 10 day stay once by calling daily!

One other thing - remember that you will probably have some food left over from staying in the cabins. Instead of throwing any perishables away you would be able to put them in the fridge in an OKW studio. You would have to rent one at POR if you wanted to keep the perishables, unless you would have a cooler.

We have never stayed at POR but are members at OKW & WE LOVE IT!!! It is very relaxing - similiar in how relaxing FW is. BTW - we also LOVE FW. Next to OKW it is our absolute favorite resort! My DH loves the fact that you can pull your vehicle right up to your building - simliar to FW!

Anyway, if money isn't an issue & you can swing the extra $'s then I would vote for OKW, but that's JMO for what it's worth!
