We had a round trip ticket (3 of them, actually) booked for April. Ended up finding MUCH cheaper airfare with Sun Country. So, I figured we would just roll the April airfare to our August trip.

The April airfare was booked with credits (2 each) from a failed NYC trip in January (had to cancel due to a death in the family..).

Anyway, now, when I try and roll the April airfare to August, I get a bright red error that I can’t do it online unless I choose a flight route that is less expensive that what I have available in funds from the credits.

I had planned on using the credits and then paying any extra with my RRC.

I assume this is erroring out because I might be allowed only two forms of payment on each reservation? So, since it already covered by 2 credits, I cannot add my credit card to cover the last $11.98?

Before I call SW, I just wanted to get y’alls take on it.

Frustrating. Last time I book a roundtrip flight. I ALWAYS do segments. Always. Did not this time and I have NO CLUE why. Grrr.

TIA!

I can't remember off the top of my head what the limit on forms of payment is, but you're right that's probably it. I have in the past had three or four different credit numbers and it wouldn't work. I just called Southwest and they combined them into one number that I was able to use.

You are my favorite person in the world right now, ha! Thank you!!!

I have even booked a fake reservation, used a couple credits, then immediately cancelled, and it becomes one new credit combined. (I do this if they are expiring and I want to convert to a LUV voucher later, they charge per reservation #) However the combined credit expires when the earliest one would have expired.

Perhaps calling and asking SW to do this would have been easier, lol.

my thing is that I have EBCI on this one, so I don't want to lose it by cancelling. I will call SW in a while and see if they can help me out :) Thanks, all!

nothing ever goes well when making changes to already booked flights. Good luck.

I haven't had any problems changing flights on Southwest. ECBI will roll over onto your new flight as long as you "change your flight", not cancel the original flight when booking the new flight. Good luck and have a wonderful trip.

When you use prior credits on a new ticket, the entire ticket takes on the expiration date of the oldest credit. When was your January trip originally booked? If it was before August 2015, you cannot use funds from the cancelled April trip for an August 2016 trip. If you have your printout from the April trip, it should show the expiration date of that ticket.

I have rebooked tickets MANY times...first time I have ever ran into the problem. What I love most about SW...so much flexibility!

The expiration date is 12-16-2016. First thing I looked into as I was sweating it, ha! It's almost $1000 in credits I "have to" use by then. Rough, right?

I don't know about the error message the OP got but I did experience a limit in payment methods. I got an error when I tried to book a round-trip for two including credits from cost reductions in another flight we have booked. There were two price reductions for my other flight and two of us on the reservation. This gave us 4 credits; paying for the new flight is limited to 4 payment methods.

I got the error message that I needed to remove one of the credits. This was because I needed to pay the remainder with a credit card which would have been a 5th form of payment. The solution was to break the trip out into two reservations so I could apply my two credits on one reservation and my wife's two credits on the other. This can be done by getting two separate round-trip reservations or two one-way reservations with both of us on each one-way.

That did NOT go well when I called SWA. They had NO CLUE what I was talking about. Could only see 1/2 of my credit, told me I could not make it "one credit", and then told me I had to pay $300 more for the itinerary I wanted. Even though I had gone online and priced everything out and saw it would be small money more. She got some managers involved. Still no go. I was told I will need to do it online and then call back to let them know how I did it. In the mean time, I lost my EBCI. Whatever.

So, I went online, cancelled my April trip, rebooked an August trip and SHOCKING, I KNOW...it cost me what I said it would cost me, and all my credits were there to use.

Whatever. $75 down the drain..work a little OT and remember to never call SWA again. Just do it myself. And to never book a round trip ticket again.

happy Friday, all.

I just had a nightmare with SW. Called because I didn't want to make a mistake moving tickets (some on points, some cash). Long story but agent gave me wrong advice. Moved the tickets and I ended up losing just shy of $200. Tried complaining to several people and was finally told by escalation staff member that there was nothing she could do other than use the phone call (where agent gave me incorrect information) for training purpose. It seems like a lot of money for a customer to pay to train staff. Back to Jetblue for us.

Damn @Splashboat wonder if you had the same helpful staff I had yesterday, ha! I am over it now...$75/lesson for myself. But, was super frustrating in the mean time. Sorry you had an issue, too... :(
