Sigh - okay - have my trip all planned for April. Resort booked, tickets bought, FPs and dining done.

NOW - I am 100% certain I'll be there in the next two weeks, too (this was not confirmed until a couple days ago) So - great - I'll just upgrade to an Annual Pass NOW - and then I can make FP's reservations while watching the snow fall on my snow day today.

But no... after waiting on hold for 15 minutes I find out you can't do that. I can't make my 6 day park ticket into an Annual Pass anyway except in person. Well, crap. Sigh.

I'm trying to remember this is an unexpected bonus trip - and I can still have lots of fun without guaranteed FP's when I want them. It's a bit hard because of the 4 days I expect to hit the parks - only one can be at rope drop due to other obligations. HS for Toy Story or MK for SDMT at rope drop?

We now know that these are not "package" tickets and can't be cancelled.

We are in a similar situation. We leave in 2 weeks and I wanted to upgrade my son's 6 day ticket to a 10 day ticket so I could book additional FP's for those 4 days. I called, and a *very* unfriendly castmember told me it could only be done in person at guest relations.

I would advise you to check out some of the FP+ availability websites - for almost every ride except 7DMT, Toy Story, and A&E, Wishes, and a few others, there is usually availability up to the day of. If you get your ap changed the first day you are there, you should be able to book FP's for the rest of the week and have a pretty good selection to choose from.

So many variables.

We upgraded our Hoppers last Oct as we exited AK, took all of 10 mins. Also, had no problem getting FP+s for the additional days.

The problem the OP has is they want to upgrade BEFORE even going to WDW. As they
want to make advanced FP+ for both trips.

Okay - I can't risk losing my April fastpasses - that's a family trip with stuff perfectly planned for our schedules.

If I do the upgrade in person at Disney - no risk of losing April FP's?

If you link your APs first before canceling the package tickets, you shouldn't lose your FP. You can make FP before activating APs.

We now know that these are not pkg. tickets.

Nope. (As "no risk" as anything can be regarding FP+ and Disney IT.)

I'm confused, if you have these tickets with your package, how can you upgrade them when you're down there in 2 weeks?

I agree, (and that's why I recommended buying the AP BEFORE canceling the pkg. tickets for the second trip) but in this case, it's still "iffy."
What if they buy the AP and activate them in 2 weeks. Then cancel the package tickets? Seems like there's no way Disney IT/FP+ can mess that up :goodvibes

Since these are NOT package tickets, they can't be cancelled.

That's not what is being proposed.

The situation is that if the OP only has 6 days of tickets now, only 6 days of FP+ can be booked in advance.

As an FYI - I never made the tickets and resort room a "package" - I knew there was a chance I might be upgrading just me to an AP - but not the others. I hadn't expected to know in advance of arrival of this month's trip if I could make it to Disney at all or not. But - due to changes - now I know I can go over to Disney this month.

Sounds like safest bet (for keeping April FP's) is to wait until I get there to upgrade.

Yup.

I know it's been several hours since I've had some caffeine but what exactly does that mean? Are you buying an AP when you get there? Or taking a pre purchased ticket and exchanging it to an AP?

The OP would be taking a pre purchased ticket and UPGRADING it to an AP.

And, since we now know that these are NOT "package tickets" the OP cannot "cancel" them but can only upgrade them, in person.

This would only work if the ticket was purchased via Disney, correct?
If the ticket was purchased, say via UT, what would happen? If they tried to bridge the ticket, you'd have to use it once and thereby losing one of the April FP+ days correct?

Sorry, for all the questions.
