frustrating budget blunders

my ex-husband once took all of our retirement money out of stocks when the market was down, he couldn't take the scare. Then we missed the ride back up. Which wouldn't have been so bad but he did it without telling me. I'm in it for the long term and I ride out the bad times without flinching. Glad he's my ex.

I got a super deal of $50 for season passes to our rep theater. It's for 6 shows and it's always really good. It ends up being cheaper than a movie to see a great play. So I parked in the lot across the street and there was no attendant on duty so I thought it was free on Saturdays. Came out after the show and our car was towed. I should've walked to the back of the lot and read the signs. But I saw other people parking and walking to the theater without paying so I figured I was ok. $150 later I'm really kicking myself for such a stupid budget blower.

what budget blunders have you done?

First of all, that you for attending theater! Since you are in Albany, check out Shakespeare& Company...we have our own, free parking!
Budget buster - I washed my husband's cell phone...then his wallet....I no longer take laundry out of his bathroom :)

I will check out your company, DD is just starting to learn Shakespeare in school!

I bought $30 worth of fabric to make a quilt (on really good clearance, so it's like $80 worth of fabric), looked gray on my work and home monitors and had a "cutesty" name that didn't reveal color. I get it and it is brown. I can't use it. But it will cost close to $15 to ship back, because it is heavy. So I'm keeping it. Surely I'll need 3 different shades of brown for something...

And we go on vacation this week and find out our 13 month, 8 day old waterproof camera (warranty is 12 days) is broken. So we had to replace it which cost $500, since we decided to get a camera that can shoot RAW and a case instead of a dedicated waterproof. I'm annoyed at the expensive, and pissed the $350 camera broke just barely one month out of warranty; husband is annoyed at the expense but thrilled with the replacement.

I woke up this morning to find the freezer door wide open. This past Sunday was my big monthly sale when I buy all my meat for the month. Had to throw it all away and replace it. Couldn't find another turkey breast though so still have to get that later on.

my son left our freezer in the basement open and I didn't go down there for days. What a waste and what a mess.

Small blunders: Paying $8.49 for a pizza because 'hey, it's on sale! and I need to eat anyway'

But then you realize your budget doesn't have room, and yet you still buy it anyway? SMH. That's me in a nutshell.

Same thing with Starbucks. I keep buying a coffee here and there, saying it's no big deal because hey, coffee, I'm going to get it either way. Well, I really should be looking at it as 'that $5 coffee could be bought in WDW instead, idiot.'

I think my "favourite" is my inability to pull myself out of bed a little early in the morning. I have just enough time to get ready grab my lunch and go... which means if anything is out of place then I miss my train! Examples include my cat barfing in the night and having to clean it up before my shower like yesterday, or realizing my lunch wasn't made up the night before, or needing a few extra minutes for ANYTHING really. That means I'm driving in, so gas + $11 parking pass for the day = UGH! :furious:

I also hate having to buy lunch, so not planning properly also busts my brains. How my coworkers rationalize $7-10 a day is beyond me.

Just bought a new car that was delivered yesterday, so I had to clean out glove box of old one (2003).

I found a credit invoice for something I returned, and a check was attached refunding me $129. Of course the check was dated 2004, so I am pretty sure I can't cash it, so I am out that money.

That is nowhere near the biggest $ mistake I have ever made, but the most recent I remember.
