I’m hoping to get around to a longer trip report, but wanted to share that they are testing assigned seating for the Frozen show. We saw them doing it at regular park opening on Fri, so asked about it and decided to try it. It was a super easy process - we got to choose the time we wanted to see and then choose from the seats they had sectioned off. We ended up with front row mezzanine. They kept a record of it and scanned one ticket for our party. We returned 10 mins before the show started and were let right in. It was so seamless and worked great!

I'd love to hear more reports on this. We'll be there in a few days and would probably do this if we had assigned seats.

Where were they doing it?

How did you find them for this? We went in January and the show was canceled right after Elsa sang "Let It Go" so this is a big priority for us on our two day trip at the end of this week. Did some people not do assigned seating?

They were in the entrance to the Hyperion Theater when we walked by. Anytime I see a line that doesn’t make sense, I ask what it’s for (and a line there at 8:30am didn’t make sense). They said they were testing this and had a few rows in each of the 3 sections for all 3 shows available. Most of the theater is still open seating with the same long line up and wait. With this, we had to show up no later than 10 mins before show time and check in at the VIP/Reserved Seating sign. They checked us in and sent us right in.

We actually got great luck with this show this trip because two days before we got pixie dusted with reserved seats in the orchestra section by the house manager - but I didn’t realize what the reserved seats were for at the time.

THANK YOU! We may just head to this first on Friday. We were at the show DD5's 5th birthday on her actual birthday and she just couldn't understand why the show was done when it was just getting started. We have reservations for 11:20 at Ariel's and I was hoping to catch the 1 PM Christmas Parade in DL and the 3 PM Frozen Show--a lot to do in a short time. This might help us accomplish it all (if anything we will skip the parade that day). Thanks again for the info! I'm going to be watching for them.

And I am adopting the policy of asking about lines that don't make sense!!!!

It’s how we lucked into candy canes last year. We saw a line forming on Main Street and asked. I figure the worst they can say is it’s a private event, but there is always the chance it’s something cool we can participate in!

They've been testing this on and off for a while. I haven't done it, but it seems like it works well. You do have to get there pretty early in the day to get one though.

Our first day in is early entry into California Adventure so I think we will head there after RSR and see if we can utilize it.

We saw it on Friday and really wish we knew this ahead of time. We got great seats but it was #1 on my husbands list so we got there at like 1045am to watch the line for a 12 Show. We ended up getting in line at 11 because the CMs told my daughter to be back no later than 1115 for the line.

Wow. That's super early. This is one of our big "must-do" so we may end up doing something similar if we can't get an assigned seating.

So if we go to the theater early in the morning- like the first couple hours do you think someone will be there and we can snag an assigned seat? We are going to be there next week and that sounds SO much better then waiting I crowds an hour then waiting inside and hoping the seat is ok with a toddler in tow lol

I don’t know how long they stayed out there, so I would try to go by in the first hour after park opening. All of the reserved orchestra section was taken and some of balcony, when we stopped at 8:30 (8am opening).

Thanks for the tip! sounds like you got to see the show from two different spots? (Orchestra and mezzanine). Which viewing area do you recommend?

Not who you asked, but I have seen it from almost every possible angle. I prefer orchestra because I like to see the actor's faces. I think the ideal seats are 5-12 rows back in the center of the orchestra. The mezzanine is great to get more of a "full picture" view with the projections on the floor as well. First row of the mezzanine is great. But I still prefer orchestra.

Thanks! Good points regarding the different perks of each spot..I’m thinking my kiddos would appreciate getting the bigger picture and seeing all the projections :)

You will enjoy it from either seat. Just avoid the balcony.

Unless you get in the front section of the orchestra, I much prefer Mezzanine. I believe the reserved seats in Orchestra are in the rear section (or that’s where we were seated in any case) We had front row Mezzanine our second time and the seats were perfect. I think in this, as well as when Aladdin was there, there are some elements best seen from Mezzanine.

If it’s a big must-do, have you considered the Frozen Lunch? My mom and I really enjoyed it.

I am here now and asked about the assigned seating. The CMs said the trial ended about 5 days ago. I would love to know if anyone has heard anything differently.
