Took my 2 girls to see Frozen today (for the 2nd time). I simply love this movie. Disney did such a great job and there is such attention to detail in the animation. Both times I've seen it in the theater, I get a little teary eyed (yes, I'm a sap!).
My grandparents ran a Scandinavian import business for many years. The trolls in the movie look like some of the troll figurines that they used to sell to gift shops!! In Scandinavian culture, trolls are, generally speaking, not the ugly horrific ogre-like creatures that you see in movies sometimes. They are generally considered helpful, but sometimes they get into mischief. There were house trolls (who looked after you & the house) and barn trolls (who would look after your animals while you slept). The personality of the trolls in the movie is exactly what I remember thinking trolls were like when I was a kid listening to my grandmother talk about them.
The close-fitted hat that Ana wears? I have an old one JUST LIKE IT (different color, though)!! All of the toll painting decorations throughout the castle? It's totally spot on. And the church/chapel that's in the middle of the castle grounds is the spitting image (in my mind's eye, at least) of Trondheim Cathedral. Every time I hear that song, "Let It Go," I now think of my grandmother (whose parents were Norwegian). I miss her. She would have loved this movie because it would have reminded her of such happy times she had as a kid when they'd travel back to Norway in the summer.
So good job, Disney! You totally nailed it. Thanks for helping me drum up some wonderful memories of times gone by. That movie was full of pixie dust for me.
