We are only going to Universal for one day, (California) and I'm trying to decide if it would be worth the extra $$$ to buy front of the line tickets. Opinions please.

Edited to add, we are going in March.

I will be following this post. We were at US Orlando 2 years ago on Canadian spring break and staying off site. I was so jealous of all of the FOTL ticket holders as wait times were very long. We are returning at Christmas this year and again due to excessive crowds we are expecting long wait times. We have booked Hard Rock Hotel and feel it is worth the extra cash for FOTL and extra morning hour of admission, which comes with staying on site. If you aren't travelling at peak time I wouldn't pay the money for FOTL.

Universal Studios Hollywood in California and Universal Studios in Orlando are vastly different. California has less rides, and generally lower waits. It really depends on what time of year you go.

It's called express in Orlando, but Front of the line or the (A) pass in Hollywood. It's more expensive in Hollywood because it has fewer rides. I've never gotten it in Hollywood, since last time I went was early May 2 years ago when it was slow so no front of the line was needed.

I did to the VIP experience in Hollywood once and that I'd recommend over the pass if you can afford it, which includes the front of the line pass, and I thought it was worth it since they back-doored you to all the rides, let you out in a few spots in the backlot (normal tour doesn't drop you off anywhere), and had an amazing tour group only lunch buffet included. After the tour was over you used the VIP badge as a FOTL pass if you missed anything, or wanted to re-ride.

If you've only been to Hollywood (or never been to Universal Orlando) they are incredibly different experiences so it's worth doing both. Orlando lacks a true backlot tour, but the rides are much bigger in scope.
