Good morning everyone. This thread is going so fast, it's hard to keep up, but I am enjoying myself.

We are still in Orlando, into week 5 of our 6 week trip. No way am I ready to go home, but it is hard not to be thinking about it, even though on a normal 2 week vacation we would have only just arrived!!!:lmao:

MVMCP tonight after dinner at The Wave. Both new experiences.

Welcome to all the newbies.:dance3:

Marilyn, please give us a review of The Wave.

And I bet you are going to MNSSHP tonight....:lmao:

.

Ok, please remember that the only thing that is really active on the site is the Images and Logos. I'm still working on Who is going (The list) and Where we are staying (The map). I'm probably going to add the "Where we are from" with a map of the US and our hometowns.

I've tested this out on IE 8 and Firefox 3.5. No guarantees with older browsers, but I'll do what I can.

http://www.wonderpanama2011.com/

I need to code my interface for the database for the lists, and once that is done I will start getting things up.

If anyone's image is missing, let me know what post # it was and I'll get it added.

To all my fellow 2005 PC cruisers:
Does anyone still have the graphics from that cruise that you can e-mail me? The main logo/magnet, "repo this" or any others.
If so, would you please PM me and I'll send you my e-mail address. I'd like to use them as door magnets for this cruise. TIA!

Jeff, The website look GREAT! Love th background. :thumbsup2

Tigfanjeff - The website looks good. I really like the background you chose for the main page.

I had to get out the maps and point out where you were from and where were leaving from.

Thanks, I am just not sure how to approach the school on this idea of pulling them out. I feel like since I used to teach in the same district my children attend that it is an akward situation!!

Good luck with figuring this out, you will know what is the right thing to do. :-) I'm sure, given you are a teacher, that the school will know you will be dedicated in making sure your kids do all of the missed work completed.

Maybe you could approach it that this is a one-chance opportunity because who knows when Disney will be sailing through the Panama Canal again. Or, maybe you could tell the school that you'll have your kids do a special "extra credit" project on the Panama Canal to share with their classes when they get back, so they can make this trip educational for their entire class!

The process we went through in fully deciding to book this cruise was, we first talked to our kids (at the time of the cruise, they will be 3rd and 4th grade), and told them what time of year they'd be missing, how much school they'd be missing, and explain what they'd probably be missing, and asked them how they felt about it. Both our boys (who love to travel) said they had no problem with missing school and wanted to go on the cruise. So, that was important to us.... that we weren't making our kids do something that they didn't want to do.

Then, I talked with a couple teachers at our kid's school who know both of our boys very well and know what kind of students they are, their learning styles, etc. etc., and asked their opinion from a teacher's perspective what they thought about our boys missing 2 weeks of school in January. Both teachers said they thought we should do the trip and knowing our children, and that we are parents who are very involved in their school and education, these teachers see no problem taking them out and felt the experience they will have will be very educational.

Then, the next step I did was I went to the principle and talked with her and made sure our kids would not be penalized for being out for 2 weeks, and also got her opinion. The principle said it was fine as long as the boys made up their work (which of course they will!!).

I think we have a bit of an advantage where we live.... we live in a very multicultural area (there are 49 different languages represeted at our kid's school), and because of this, it is not uncommon for a student to go back to their home country to visit family for a full month (and the parents will pull them out of school for a month). So, I think the teachers and principle at our school are used to parents requesting pulling the child out of school for a trip.

It's nice to know that there will be other elementary age kids on this cruise... I'm guessing there won't be nearly as many elementary aged kids compared to our July Western 7-day we took this past year!

Hello Everyone, I would love to be able to consider this cruise. But the missing school worries me. Can I ask you all what you are doing about your kids missing two plus weeks of school??

I'm with you. We're still not 100% certain we are doing this cruise, although the more I get involved here, the harder it will be to walk away. I started an interesting thread recently on this very subject:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2298054

As others, we're booked and now discussing how committed we are...Because they will be 3rd grade and K; we're also dealing with pulling them out of school. It's good to know that there is concern by others and on prior PC cruises there was the homework / study time

You know, it may be possible for some of us to "take over" one of the lounges on some of the sea days (there are quite a few) for "at sea homeroom", where all of the kids take time to do their "formal" (ie paper and book based) learning, either taken from school, or brought from homeschool. That way the kids can see that others are doing it as well, and it's less painful for them (and and actually motivating for them) to:

1. Have a set time where they do their work
2. See that others are in the same boat (sorry for the pun!), and not feel left out for the hour or two that they have to do their work.

Maybe this was done on previous PC cruises?

Either way, it's an interesting idea, one that I'd be happy to explore with DCL (reserving a lounge, etc.) if there is any interest.

I know that DD(11) and DDs(7, 7) would have a better time of it if they could see that thier friends were working on formal school work at the same time.

Let me know if any of you would be interested.

That website looks really nice, Jeff! I love the ship background, and having all the graphics available in one place.

Are we using the database visible on Jeff's website for an FE list, so there's no need to keep a seperate list? OR should I be getting people to sign up for the FE's seperate? Someone please give me guidance here.
