Hello Everyone,

I would love to be able to consider this cruise. But the missing school worries me. Can I ask you all what you are doing about your kids missing two plus weeks of school??

Our GREAT friends Randy and Candy are on this cruise your all soooo LUCKY to be cruising with them!!

I'm with you. We're still not 100% certain we are doing this cruise, although the more I get involved here, the harder it will be to walk away. I started an interesting thread recently on this very subject:

Kristin...thanks!!! BTW, how many Jelly Bellys is it going to cost us to get you guys on this cruise? LOL Please come!!!!

Seriously though, I think this is a huge opportunity for parents and children to learn together. How often will this happen again...DCL going to the canal, through one of the greatest engineering marvels of our time, and of course doing it with the Mouse is the best!!!!!!

I realized I didn't put our stateroom or dining time when I gave you our names. We are Cat. 9A, #7508, and right now, early seating.

We might (and very likely) will change our dining to late seating. In July for our first Disney cruise, we did early seating, but the time didn't work well for our appetites. We were never really hungry by 5:45, so for our Jan 2010 cruise we are doing, we requested late seating to see if that works better. I have a hunch we'll like late seating much better... so, once we go on our Jan 2010 cruise and try late seating for that cruise, we'll decide for the PC cruise if we want to keep early or move to late.

I feel the same as you. Most days not ready to eat at 5:45. We usually get a lil bite at 5ish which helps hold us until late dinner seating. We've tried both ways so it's good your checking it out.

I agree with RanCan about the learning.
My DD ( Bethany) will be missing 2 weeks of 7th grade. This will be the second time for her to go through the canal. She missed the last 2 weeks of school last time but im lucky that we have a Panamal Canal museum here in Seminole and I actually made a donation and they came and spoke to her class and brought artifacts, pictures and dvd. She journaled the trip with pictures and turned it in when we got back also. She was able to talk about the history and I was surprised how much she really did learn in listening to the narration and seeing the sites.
Last PC cruise there were homework groups and parents took turns supervising.
I have no issues personally with taking her out again and she is very excited about the new ports and I took her to the library to get books on them.

I understand about your hesitations but my vote would be to go for it. Life is too short and family is what its all about! :)

Anyways we booked it!

We are also cruising Jan 9, 2010.
We are also visiting WDW 11/18/09-11/24/09
Also 12/30/09 - 1/2/09

We are mature cruisers, cruising without children. Anyone want to do a Dis meet?

:cheer2:

I think part of why the early seating did not work well for us is because with a cruise out of Florida, our body clocks are on West Coast time to begin with, so the 5:45 dinner seating (at least for the first few days) is 2:45 PM our body time. So, this is why we think the late seating will work better.

But, for the PC cruise, the cruise will start out on East Coast time, and end on West Coast time, so who knows.... but at home, we typically eat dinner around 6:45 - 7:00 anyway, so I think the late seating will be fine if that is what we decide to go with for the PC cruise after our Jan 2010 7-day Eastern. And, when we are on vacation, we don't really follow any schedule anyway! One of the many things I LOVE about vacations!:cheer2:

That's why we always go late -- as it is we usually eat at home at 7:30/8 anyway :drinking1

Domain is registered, hosting is getting set up now.
...
I should start to have some basic stuff up tomorrow regarding all of the images people have put together.
Thanks you so much for making a site for us. I know it is a big undertaking and it is truly appreciated! :thumbsup2

DH and I used to do late seating. It just felt more relaxed and we didn't have to rush to get ready or anything. But with 2 small ones - last cruise 3 and 1, when we sail this cruise 6 and 3 - it works out better to get them fed early.

As others, we're booked and now discussing how committed we are! Neil / Wendy / DD 9 and DS 6 at time of cruise - 7580, late. Because they will be 3rd grade and K; we're also dealing with pulling them out of school. It's good to know that there is concern by others and on prior PC cruises there was the homework / study time :thumbsup2 - we were talking about something along those lines last night. It's difficult to weigh the experience value vs. missing school and the amount they would remember from something like this.

Thanks, I am just not sure how to approach the school on this idea of pulling them out. I feel like since I used to teach in the same district my children attend that it is an akward situation!!

Anyone who gets to cruise and hang with Randy and Candy are soooo lucky they are the kindest people you'll ever meet. We met them on our second cruise and my daughter loved the fact that they were only a few doors down from us she kept knocking on their door and thought that it was the funniest thing in the whole world. She would knock and run......:lmao::lmao:
