From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 5

On another topic - a friend of mine from Salt Lake city phoned a little while ago - and asked me if I had seen the "LDS Temple" in Panama City. Apparently, it's a spired or spiral topped building with a gold angel on top, and supposedly visible from the canal. I *think* I remember seeing it,not knowing what it was, so, of course no photo. If you have a photo of this building, I sure would love to get a copy!

We have some nice pics of the City of Panama. I am not sure if one of these buildings is the Temple but would be interested to know. I also have friends in Utah that would love to see it if so.

I didn't know what it was when I took the picture, but I got a couple pics of the temple. Here's one, both are on SmugMug.

Edit: I realized how high quality the picture was and was able to crop it, creating a pretty good pic. The two originals are on SmugMug.

thank you!

I agree the food was not up to par. If I hadn't been on a TA I would have said it was because of the length of the cruise. One night Bob had duck and the meat was spoiled. We know the smell and taste of bad meat versus aged or wild and this was sour spoiled. I know Bob is very finicky and voices his displeasure when he doesn't like the spice or taste of something, but in this case he was right. I told them they needed to tell the kitchen so someone didn't get sick. The chef came out and said he would look into it but I just didn't think they took it serious enough. Of course they offered something else. One morning two cartoons of milk were bad, not expired and they didn't smell bad, just tasted horrible. This was up in the morning buffet. Bob ask for the officer and told them he was concerned. The officer looked at the cartoon, said it wasn't expired, smelled the milk, said it smelt ok, then tasted the milk and spit it out and agreed something was wrong with it. We saw them remove some cartoons but no one ever said anything.

My favorite place to get food was Goofy's Kitchen, with the yoguart in the morning and wraps in the afternoon. That says something about the food overall.

I know I'll hear cries of disbelief but we ate at Palo's twice for dinner and I felt it wasn't up to the normal standards. The steak was good, but the pizza, pasta and my favorite, the calamari were all disappointing.

I have never thought any cruise ship deserts were that good. I was talking with the pastry chef onboard the Magic once and he said the problem is due to the volume and need to make stuff that can sit out, they use nondairy whippings, not cream. They also don't use as much butter as would be needed to make highend pastry. They all look beautiful but the taste - not so much.
And speaking of butter - what's with the lard they put out to use on your bread? That stuff is bad.

I would like to have fewer choices done really well. I think it would make the dining experience better. They could publish the menu with the navagator and if you didn't like what they were serving at the main dining you would have the choice of going upstairs.

Actually, I thought that the food on that cruise was the best that we ever had on any DCL cruise and definitely a notch about the food quality on the WBTA.

Again, I must be a weirdo or something. I had zero problems with the margarine.

I do not eat butter at all as I hate the texture, but love the margarine that they serve on the ships. I wish that I could get this at home.

Has anyone else not received their Photo DVD yet?

Do you mean the Shutters photo CD? You were meant to pick that up on the last morning. We got to Shutters at around 7:30 on the last morning and picked our CD up.

What a shame. I guess DCL might lose some good crew because of not looking after them.

I know some friends talked to crew they knew on the Dream, and some of them had been moved really against their will, but they had no choice of course. Shame isn't it? Apparently DCL asked for volunteers, but not enough wanted to move so they just moved people anyway. I guess they have no contract to any particular ship so that can happen. Just general dissatisfaction with work right now in some cases.

I know of a member of crew from the Magic who was made to go on the Dream. She left within the last few days.

That would worry me. I had problems with the CD on the WBTA that never got resolved. This time round there were 3 photos from the first day that never made it onto the kiosk. They sent them to the lab to put on CD, but I was given the wrong CD for the extra photos. I wrote to them and they managed to find them and emailed them to me.

Jill, I'll remind Jen to check for you. I think she thought it was resolved. I certainly have made enough phone calls for her the last few weeks, she can walk over to shutters! If she can, do you want her to pick it up and mail it hereself? if so send me or her a pm on fb with your address. she rarely checks in here anymore and i actually dont get on so much either. dont know if she can but i'll ask her to try.

I received a call today from Disney in response to my letter and email. The girl was very nice and expressed how sorry Disney was for some of the problems we had on our cruise. She assured me that the right departments would be notified about my conerns. I told her that things were not up to the Disney standards that we expect. The way she talked was that I was not the only one that felt that way. I hope they straighten things out.

Did anyone see on one of the threads that Disney has a slot in Ohau for May of 2012? I wonder what that means. I wish they would come out with the schedule soon.

I am glad that you managed to get a response and that they are taking this seriously. I have still not gotten around to writing in, but have to make a concerted effort to do so. Graham took some video footage of the pin line on the last day and uploaded this to You Tube. I will forward them the link so that they can see just how much of a shambles it was.

As to Hawaii, I know that the Disney Wonder is listed at Honolulu for two consecutive days in May and one day in September. This would be in line with a possible repositioning cruise before and after the Alaska season. I know there is a couple of other cruise lines that are doing this kind of things. We are very much interested in the spring cruise if it does indeed materialize.

Hey all...
Registration for MA at Disneyland opens Thursday at 9 a.m. (PST).

Hope a bunch of you play so I can see you again! :cool1:

I want to play so bad, I hope there will not be a sell out. :scared1: I will be spending the day at the dentist :sad2: What is worst then 2 root canals?..... Missing the sign up for Mouse Adventure :lovestruc and thats the truth

I would like to do the May cruise if it happens too. John doesn't though. ah well. We are hoping for another WBTA next year as we love that cruise and it is a good price for DCL.

Poor you. I empathise. However, though I am truly petrified of going to the dentist, even for a check up, all my root canals have been pain free. Afterwards however I did have had some painful times. All the best.

I just noticed the following notation has been added to the military discount explaination page on the DCL web site. I guess this means you can't call after booking a cruise and ask the price to be adjusted once a military discount is announced for the cruise you previously booked. I wonder if this is going to be a new policy for the entire cruiseline?

"Other categories and sail dates may be available. Effective 2/7/11, DCL will only accept new bookings under the Military promotion, new bookings only."

We just opened registration... there are several divisions playing the same day.... I hope you get in and feel better! :cloud9:

If is true, we will be on the Sept. One. As much as I would love to be on the first one, I rather get off the ship here in L.A. so I don't have to fly home. Of course if they do a round trip, then we will do May.
