From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 5

why am i up at 530? this is my ONLY trepidation about this trip (well this and seasick on the cabo whale watching) - the snoring is so bad i cna't sleep and it's sensless to go to another room when i have to be up in an hour anyway. what do i do if i get no sleep on cruise - well maybe sleepunder the sun at the pool!! but really, that's nice but not a good long sleep. sigh.

I second what Linda said - EAR PLUGS!! Once you get used to them it is fantastic. I would have snuffed my hubby out by now if I hadn't found them!!!! Took me a year to actually get really used to them though.

Are we nearly there yet...

:sail:ONE week to go::sail:

Are you ready?.

Current Weather Forecasts

Port Canaveral - 72/55 with some scattered showers
Castaway Cay - 74/56 and Sunny (Based on Freeport - Marsh Harbour only has 5 day available.)

I am always on the lookout for Mickey pjs but don't have much luck. I was actually looking for Mickey ones when I found the potato head ones. Where do you usually buy yours?

I found Mickey PJs at Target for DH, they usually have the character items back in the men's section.

Bob: Your retired Navy guy is right...and that's one of our big cruise packing secrets - out with the old, more room for the souvenirs!

Lynne: Sorry about UPS! Sounds like it would have been a lovely surprise for Len, hope you get it delivered before you leave!

Houston weather went crazy yesterday - we got 3+ inches of rain and our pool overflowed into the yard, but the problem is the pool IS our yard! Thank goodness the house is built another foot higher. For a time I thought we'd need a ship before next Thursday!

Taking pups to v-e-t for their checkup & shots before the kennel will take them next Wednesday morning. Then back to packing, or at least thinking about the packing:laughing:

Have a WONDERful day...stay safe!

Tami: Valerie probably would prefer telling in person where she can gain full value from expressions and contortions! Something makes me think you know a bit about what her story includes. It is best told in the presence of beverages.

Others: As for laundry soap. Valerie wouldn't let me help on last cruise because I had an injury, but she'd lug a couple of loads to the torture chamber in the middle of the night, or 5 a.m., and find the place busy even then. But I determined that there were a lot of morons in the laundry when she was there. Worst problem, oversoaping the HE front loaders with soap. HE machines sense small loads and use less water, among other things. One morning the deck was awash with suds; another, some rich b***h bragging that her maid usually did this for her had loaded tennies, silky unmentionables and colors together, and don't try to tell her what to do! (And why, if she can afford a maid, can't she send a bag of duds to the ship's cleaners?) We laughed trying to decide how her load turned out.

I'm glad my room isn't across from the laundry. Traffic, noise, soap scent.

I knew a retired Navy chief who worked for a government contractor. He'd be sent aboard Navy ships for technical support. He always saved his worn-out skivvies and socks for cruises, then:idea: deep-six them rather than fight with laundering! A genius! (God bless him -- Pearl Harbor survivor of the West Virginia.)

I would love to see this. Tell you what Val and I will both have a couple she can tell/act the wet suit and I will tell/act DH's rat in the pants story.

Is anyone considering purchasing the photo CD on-board from Shutters? I think the price is going to be insane, as these are the prices I found for the regular itineraries:

3-night - $249.95
4-night - $299.95
7-night - $399.95

Whether it's this, or one of the photo packages, I forsee spending a fortune at Shutters. :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I am considerng this, but also joined the photo group that Carmie got together just in case it's out of my pay scale!

Aw, sorry Harole Ann, we have 3 peeps now (the maximum is 4 to a team. So we couldn' have both you and Ryan on our team. If Ryan wants to participate, perhaps there is another solo player that will join up with you. If Ryan is not up for it, we would love to have you join us.

That sucks. Sorry it didn't work out.

I have been waiting for a pirate outfit to arrive from ebay for me - looks like the seller hasn't shipped it yet (should have been here today). The latest is "if you can wait a week, maybe it will have arrived by then" . My reply - "uh, no, I can't wait." I fly out on Sunday to FL, and in a week I will be on the ship. So I am now without a cool pirate outfit for pirate night. I now have to rack my brain for an alternative. :sad2::sad2::sad2:

Kay, if you're willing to take a trek out to Vacaville, there is a temporary Disney Store at the Outlet Mall there. I don't know how well you know that area, but it is located where the Old Navy USED to be...if you need directions, let me know. They have the Pirates of the Caribbean skull caps, the brown pointy hats (don't know how else to describe them) and the big black captains hat likepirate:. They also have the dreadlocks and shirts and some other misc. stuff. I ordered a pirate outfit for the 2007 Medi cruise that I will be wearing, but DD opted for the skull cap, pirate shirt, eye patch and sash (which can all be found at that store).
Hope that helps!

RATS IN THE PANTS! I don't mind rats but -------

On the WBTA when the nice lady using the washer next to me opened the door, suds just poured out all of the floor; it was like a sit-com skit. She called the emergency number on the wall explaining the "machine was broken". When I asked her a few questions it turned out she had used a whole package of regular soap (what they sell??) in the HE machine and she had only ONE small tee shirt in. Something was broken but it wasn't the machine - at least not until she used it.

Oooooh, what time is this show? I want to be there!:rotfl2:

Kay, I hope you can get something fun for pirate's night.

Starting to pack now, since we leave for the airport at 6:30 tomorrow morning. Goofprincess is coming by for us.:yay: We'll be at Animal Kingdom Lodge tomorrow night.:cheer2: Lots of activities scheduled while there - afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian; Sunrise Safari; dinner at Kouzzina, etc, etc, etc. We also want to get to each park and see the Christmas decorations before they come down.

See you all in eight days.:banana::banana:

I don't have time to go up there. I hope I can find something in the outlets in Kissimmee, which will be easier to get to.

Safe travels.

Safe Travels to those of you leaving soon. :wizard: I think we are the last ones leaving. We've decided not to spend the night at the Radisson so my parent's will be taking us directly to the port Thursday morning.

The first thing I'm looking forward to is seeing the Wonder (and Dream!) as we head over the bridge near the port. Always gives me goosebumps. :goodvibes

I'll have to check out Target next time I'm there. I'm usually in there about 2-3 times a week and have never noticed character things other than a fee tees in kid's clothing.

Yes, it was crazy yesterday. The rain gauge about a mile from our house recorded 4.23 inches of rain. But we don't have a pool to worry about. Our only problems is our little weiner dogs don't like it because their bellies get all wet when water is standing in the yard like that!

Getting bills paid today. Then off to get hair cuts for DH, DS, and I. DD needs one too but she is in Atlanta. She flew out yesterday (thankfully before the airports got backed up) for the first time by herself and I was so nervous. I tracked it the whole time. She comes home on Saturday and once again, I'll be nervous but I'll be the one picking her up.

Sorry Lynne about the UPS package. Sounds like our postal man. One day, got a notice in our box (about a block from our house) that we had a package that needed a signature and delivery was attempted but no one was home. We had been home all day and he just didn't try to delivery it. So, one of us had to go to the post office to pick it up. And he's always putting mail in the wrong boxes, at least a few times a month. I've had to go the post office twice because he put a key in box that didn't work for the larger boxes . The second time I requested to speak to the manager and as soon as I started stated the address, the manager shook his head as he knew. I don't understand why they put up with imcompetence like that. Mail getting in the wrong hands can cause too many problems.

OK bills paid. Hair cut. Now need to restart the packing process and call CC company.

Question: is it really imperative to bring both a passport and a birth certificate??

If your travels are beginning - travel safely! Getting exciting now.

Alan - take the not quite 2pm flight out of Houston! I hear there is a great CA family on that one!:thumbsup2

:wizard:PD for Bandit.

So hoping I can keep track of all the great stuff we have planned here!! Gonna try to print out the schedule on the website. That should work right. Right.

If you are bringing a passport, you shouldn't need a birth certificate. When we travel we only use our passports (never bring birth certificates).

We are getting so excited -- of course we aren't packed yet, though.
I did do a Walgreen's run last night for last minute stuff: Power Strip, sunscreen, vitamins, small thing of Tylenol, good stuff. And thank you Linda for the earplug reminder!

We're going with some disboards friends to the Port of L.A. on Saturday to watch Norwegian depart out of the Berth that the Wonder is arriving at.

DH also discovered that there is a Holland America ship that is basically following the Wonder around for most of the trip (those poor people)....

Hope everyone has safe flights (that are on time). :wizard: We leave Wednesday morning from LAX.

Look forward to seeing everyone in the Promenade Lounge at 3 (and hope you all sign up for the Hunt on Jan. 15). :thumbsup2

Safe travels to everyone who is on thier way! We leave Tuesday morning. Once I make it to Florida - I will be thrilled! I am not good at flights or others driving me anywhere so this trip will be a test!

Had our hair done yesterday...mani/pedi scheduled for Mon. I am packed ..working on my DD stuff and DH promised me by Sat he would be good. Need to make a run for a few last minute things. I said it had to be done by Saturday so I could relax! :rotfl2:

I read on another thread that it's a good idea to make a couple copies of your passports. Leave one with family, leave on in your cabin and/or carry one with you. Then you always have proof of your passport and have the number if it needs to be re-issued.

There is debate about whether you should carry your passport or a copy with you on excursions. But I'd heard that DCL keeps non-US citizen's passports? If that's true, I would definitely bring some copies to carry with.

DCL have never held our passports (our first cruise was in 2008). We have UK passports the kids have US passports.

But, yes, keeping copies is a good idea - just in case!

The first Disney cruise we went on in 2007 they did keep our passports when we checked in. On the day we disembarked we had to go to the theatre at 6am in the morning for customs clearance, we were then given back our passport. When we went on our next cruise in 2008 they had stopped that procedure and did not take our passports. We cleared customs at the end of the cruise along with all residents. I have never taken my birth certificate with me, only my passport.
