Good morning all :) I'll be on here on and off during the day - Dh is home from work sick (although I can tell you now, he's nowhere near sick enough to warrant the day off - far less than what I had last week, and I still managed to get to work each day....).
Have a great day / evening everyone.

Cheers,
Sally :)

He must have that "Man Cold" that is going around, you know they can be very debilitating, you make sure you give him lots of TLC :rotfl:

Good morning all :) Another humid day here in Sydney - we should get some more storms I guess. That should be fun when I'm running After School Care this afternoon.... not !

DD1 finishes her exams today, so now I need to think of a way to break the surprise to them ! Eeeek ! I would have liked to do it before I go away this weekend, but timing doesn't allow, so it'll probably be Thursday next week - maybe I can make a cake ? ACK ! Any ideas anyone ?

Des - I love your collage ! I'd be thrilled to get photos as good as those ones for our PC crossing :thumbsup2

Aubrey - welcome to the NVC Club :) What deck will you be staying on ?

PC Crossing - can someone tell me what deck height will get to be level with the land as we go through the locks ? I've seen some pics on TRs that show the walls of the locks through a porthole on deck 3, I think.... Given we're on deck 5, how far off the ground will we be ? Does that make sense ?

I'm also going to lunch with the olds - I'll get to hear what illness / condition they have this week ;)

Have a great day / evening everyone.

Cheers,
Sally :)

A couple of years ago I did a scavenger hunt. You could have each clue lead to a hiding spot with a letter. You could have all the letters spell, WONDER or DISNEY CRUISE or PANAMA CANAL or whatever. Once they have collected the letters, you could have them unscramble them to spell the surprise.

Good luck and of course I want to hear all about it no matter what you decide!

Soooooooo excited I got my DSLR......My Canon Rebel T2i. I am very excited......santa even brought me two lenses to go with my new camera. I must have been a good girl this year!!!
I am soooooooo ready for this vacation.:cheer2::cheer2:

:yay: OOH! Camera talk! I just :lovestruc camera talk. :thumbsup2

Good for you. What kinds of lenses did you get?

Well, today I tried acupuncture for the first time. I will have to say that I think it has helped the pain in my shoulder blade. I came home and put ice on it and fell asleep. I go back Friday for another treatment and Wednesday for a half hour massage.

I have to get on a time schedule for sure now as my son Greg's air fare is booked for his return flight from Charleston, SC. He is driving me to my dd on December 5 so there is no time to play around. All of my Christmas shopping is done and wrapped for this end and most things that I am taking with me are tightly packed. I can wrap them after I get there. My house looks like a tornado went through. Somehow all my clothes have to fit in a suitcase and Jasmine has to keep her cool!:confused3 Neither will be an easy task.

Happy Anniversay to everyone who has celebrated this week. Our dear friends who we always cruised with had their 35th anniversary yesterday.

Garry's birthday is Monday and our 49th anniversay would have been December 10 so this is not an easy time of year for me. I am happy to be celebrating with my dd and her family. It is a great help.

I am not creative at all in the magnet department but I have fun making some of my own. I had fun putting together my PC day one...these are all pictures from our 2008 cruise through...

What teriffic talent! I so admire when someone can do something like this!

Hi Everyone,
You guys may have already discussed this, if so I've missed it......are any of you renting a car at the port in LA? I hope to, we are staying at the Disneyland resort but plan to do some sightseeing too. So far i haven't figured out what's available if anything at the port. I don't want to pay for the super shuttle for 4 to the Disney resort then rent a car from there. Thanks for any guidance.

Soothy Mom- That is great your parents are coming on the cruise. They can witness the vow renewel. It will make it special for you.

On the 08 PC we had a great place on deck to watch the Magic going through. I had to get up around 5am to get a good spot but it was worth it. Hubby showed up around 7. I had a nice conversation with the people around me. It was a real party atmosphere.

Sally, good luck to your DD for her exam. And happy preparations for the surprise revelation! What a lovely thing to do.

LimoFam5, congrats on the new camera and lens!

Has anyone heard any definite news about which theme nights Disney will have other than Pirate? Is this something that they usually tell cruisers before hand or do we tend to find out once we're onboard?

I wish they would hurry up and allocate cabins already.

Melissa that is sweet of you. We are a party of 8 however, so, unless your parents drive a bus or large motor home.....

I was looking at Budgets website today - we can rent a car for about $90 or fly direct from LAX to Fresno for $90/pp - so the car rental is looking like the best option. I also need to do more research and see which rental car location is closest to the port. Budget's ICE Downtown says they will deliver but not sure of the actual location.

Has anyone already looked this up??

OMG

DH was traveling up to Portland today so I took the kids out for dinner. In the restaurant I realized I had a voicemail. Turned out it was from DH. His plane had hit a hawk and they had to abort the take off. :scared1:

I have just checked and thankfully, after taking off late, their plane landed OK.:thumbsup2

I have been wanting to try this for my shoulder as well. Let me know how it works for you. What was wrong with your shoulder?

So glad to hear everything is okay! I sat next to an off duty pilot on our flight home from San Fran last month. We talked about the Hudson River incident and he said that hitting birds is common. Of course, even though it is common doesn't take away that it can be quite scary in an incident like your DHs. Again, glad everyone is safe!!!

Have you read Sullenbergers autobiography? It was very interesting. I recommend it.

But yes, after googling to see if I could find any news about the bird strike (I couldn't) it was amazing how many bird strike reports there were.

Happy anniversary all, good luck with exams and reveals and oh my i'm sure i've forgotten lots of stuff! take a day or two off the boards and boom!!!

I have been wanting to try this for my shoulder as well. Let me know how it works for you. What was wrong with your shoulder?

I did accupuncture for some emotional issues and it helped. but i had developed a really sore shoulder over time. i believe it was frozen shoulder but it could have been tendonitis, i forget. but i gave up and went to doc on day i was having treatment and mentioned it to the practioner, Told her how BAD the pain was and how LONG it had been going on. she layed me down, put an herb to smolder a bit on my shoulder, and i think 2 needles. she went off, i think for 15 minutes. and when she came back the pain was virtually gone!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo: I never filled the prescrikption doc gave me (and never told him either. oh well). I am a believer!!!!

Kay, thank goodness all is ok! scary!! I HATE flying. it's the best way to get most places, biut it scares me!

I have booked my rental car from the port to Disneyland post-cruise with Hertz. The closest Hertz location to the port is actually in Lomita, CA, and they do pick you up from the port. I stick with Hertz because I love the navigation system which for me is essential for driving around the crazy highways in So Cal, even after I lived there for 3 years I still needed one. Hertz also tends to release 21-24 age differential surcharge waivers often so since that applies to me i'm holding out that they'll be releasing one that covers 2011 soon.

... All of my Christmas shopping is done and wrapped for this end and most things that I am taking with me are tightly packed. I can wrap them after I get there. ...
Note to people flying: If you try to carry aboard a wrapped package, Security at the airport will make you unwrap it. Be sure wrapped packages are in checked luggage -- not even a carry-on, just in case.

Good morning all :)... can someone tell me what deck height will get to be level with the land as we go through the locks ? I've seen some pics on TRs that show the walls of the locks through a porthole on deck 3, I think.... Given we're on deck 5, how far off the ground will we be ? Does that make sense ?

Decks are about 3 meters/10 feet. I think Deck 1 is a few feet above the waterline -- Isn't that the deck where we board tenders when we aren't at a dock? I looked at Wikipedia's Panama Canal entry, but couldn't tell lock height from there. Judging by Pixie Dust's photos (thanks, btw), a filled lock is about 6m/20ft. deep at the bulkhead. Any one lock changes depth by less than 40 feet, so deck 5 will probably be near or above the locks at worst.
p.s. Wikipedia:surfweb: says the highest fee ever paid for a canal transit was $331,200, by the Magic, in May, 2008. Ships can pay a surcharge to buy an early transit when traffic is backed up. That probably explains the total, but at the rates posted on Wikipedia, a full Magic/Wonder would be charged about $276,000. (Fee: empty passenger bunk, $92; occupied, $115.)
Soooooooo excited I got my DSLR......My Canon Rebel T2i. I am very excited......santa even brought me two lenses to go with my new camera. ...
That's the top of the Rebel line! Be sure to bring the stock (18-55mm) lens along with the other lenses. You can take AMAZING interior and deck shots at night in wide angle. Night shots will be great with a tripod.

Just wanted to share with everyone. DH decided that he would not be happy with just a porthole in the room so we upgraded to a Navigators Verandah last week. :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Quick Question. If we are flying in several days early and staying at a Disney hotel do we still need to give DCL our flight info. I already have magical express booked from the airport to the hotel and our transfers are hotel to port?

Thanks for your help.
:banana::banana: bruilliant, I emailed Kelsie re an upgrade and she never got back to me, theres no hurry though, I want to see where mum is onthe ship, but shes obviously not going to get back to me:headache:

YES, and an amazing book it is too, I was going to try and look it out for Linda, I cant find it,I bet you I gacve it to someone and never got it back!!!

I wish they would hurry up and allocate cabins already.

They should tell us about theme nights. In 2008 we knew about the Tropical and Mexican nights. I feel we knew much earlier than this then though as there was a whole load of discussion about what to wear. The PC cruise lends itself to Tropical and Mexican doesn't it? But, on the TA we just did, they only said 'Theme Night', so we all guessed it would be villains as that was what had been on all the Med cruises.

I so wish you all had your cabin numbers. Not long now though!!!
