GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

but NOT to coming back to the frozen north,

Happy Day, all!

Well I am about to go somewhere on Thursday and freeze my rear end off. I am going to head to Denver Thursday to see The Lakers play there Thursday night. Well the high is only supposed to be 35 and there is a 60% chance of snow. Well this beach boy is dreading it, but it will be nice to see my friend in Denver and watch the Lakers win their ninth in a row.

#1 is boring. #5 is boring AND ridiculous.

I love the Undiscovered Country (#6) am I alone in that one? Although Christopher Plummer chews more scenery than Godzilla.

I grew up with Christopher Plummer as Captain Von Trapp in the Sound of Music so seeing him in Star Trek was really strange for me!

At the risk of being pummeled, I fell asleep at the movie theater at Star Trek 1. Never bothered with another..:lmao:

I fell asleep too! I just couldn't make it through the entire thing.

So why are we throwing Doctor Who in with "Bad Sci-fi night"? Okay, they're not all bad. The good ones in that list are:

Serenity
ST:TWOK

and thats it.

get rid of all the TNG junk, toss the odd numbered ST movies and get something enjoyable. And I will go through that stateroom on the first day and chuck that JJ Abrams horror overboard. (Vulcan destroyed... GRRRRRR)

lets try and get some GOOD sci-fi instead. I recommend

War of the Worlds (the 1950s version)
Empire Strikes Back
Blade Runner
Planet of the Apes (the original one not the c**p remake)
Twelve Monkeys
The Day the Earth Stood Still (the original one, again)
Aliens (Cause it's the basis for every FPS game)
Mad Max: The road Warrior.

John

How can you say that the JJ abrams movie was bad?!?! That's one of the best ST movies ever done!

On a side note ~ Any Star Wars movie is a good movie in my opinion. Even the "bad" ones are good simply because it's Star Wars. RotJ however is the best one of the 6.

Just checking in. I wanted to get in on the Star Trek Movie debate. Now I loath Star Trek V as much as the majority of other fans, but I have to give Shatner a little slack after watching the movie with his commentary on. He had a very small budget. The movie still stinks but now I know why. My favorite is Star Trek IV followed by VI then III then II then I. II has one of the worst edits I have ever seen. If you want to know ask me on the ship because I don't want to type it. The latest on by J.J. was incredible. I knew I was going to love it when I heard the Bestie Boys.

Star Trek IV is one of those movies that almost had it right. The concept was good but i wish they had come up with something better than humpback whales. I look at that one as more of a comedy than sci-fi. Spock trying to blend in with his surroundings was hilarious!

I'll again conceded that i'm probably the only one who loved star trek V. However, i'm probably also the only one who loved Insurrection too. Not many people thought that was a good movie. Personally, i'm more of a TNG movie fan because i grew up with TNG and actually saw most of those movies before TOS movies. I will agree however that Star Trek II is the best of the original 6 movies.

Compared to Nemesis, Insurrection was a veritable academy award winner.

I agree! What a terrible movie for the TNG franchise to go out on. I feel like they should do another one just to redeem themselves, but it's too late now.

Happy Anniversary! And good to hear DH got the approval to zipline. PT is a wonderful hell. My DH had his share after breaking his ankle over a year ago. Still dealing with it, in fact, off to the hospital in about an hour to have another pin removed from the ankle. Broke his toe when he fell too and that is causing more problems. Remember when we bounced back from broken bones in a couple months when we were kids? Val

Thanks, Val!!

DH's 5 pins & a plate that complete his heel bone are permanent -- Doctor told him to expect the triple check thru TSA:scared1: though the metal is surgerical steel and shouldn't ping! He's still doing 3-days per week on the PT which he refers to as physical TORTURE treatments!!

Good luck to Bob on the pin removal -- broken bones certainly heal faster for the kiddos:laughing: they are invincible!

Bob's ortho told him his plate and 9 pins might be permanent but about 9 months after the break they took out 1 screw that was bothering him. Now they are taking out another. My sister, who broke her ankle a few months earlier, her Ortho Surg. takes out all pins and plates 1 year after putting them in. Don't know why, guess they all have different ideas. val

Tahara, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TOO!

25 years ago it was a beautiful fall day when we said "I Do" on November 9th.

Happy Anniversary all.

Also, the deckplans map on the site is now current!!! :cool1:

Make sure all you lifeboat people get me updates. They are on the map, so if you want, I can start filling in as you know which lifeboat will be yours.

I'll take one of them by a restroom please!

I have 4 screws in each knee plus 1 in my wrist. Now I am a rehab nurse go figure. Also had a spine stimualtor but that is gone now. PT= Physical Terrorist! Been there done that don't want to do that again.

Aliens (Cause it's the basis for every FPS game)

there are also some movies that are great in one respect but not all around awesome which might make for some good viewing:

Gattica
Brazil
Contact
Independence Day
Dune
Logan's Run
star trek IV and VI

we should also intersperse these with a bunch of "Duck Dodgers" shorts.

btw, the position for "worst Sci-fi movie EVER is no longer Star Trek V. Its been surpassed in awfulness by both "Wing Commander" and "Battlefield Earth". though Battlefield Earth's awful random camera angle changes may seem straight when shown at rough seas.

I'll sort out Doctor Who sometime later :)

John

While I wouldn't recommend it for the cruise (due to length), let us not forget Babylon 5. Not only one of the greatest SF series of all time, but the one that pioneered use of multi-episode, multi-year story arcs (Deep Space 9 and Battlestar Gallactica may now take a moment and bow in thanks).

The first group of lanyards was mailed a few days ago and some of you more local may get them today - let me know when you do! (Can you tell I am anxious that they all make it to thier destinations?) :rotfl2:

At our Dis-meet..we were discussing the Rocky Horror Picture Show... do you think they will let us play that on the big screen and we can have a dive in movie? :lmao:

I have been working on my Holiday cards today so I can mail them in a couple of weeks..things are moving so quickly..I really don't see how I am going to get everything done!

The lanyards arrived and look awesome! Thanks. :cool2:

I have a question hopefully someone can answer. Are there hangers in the closet and if so, how many? I plan on bringing 2 hang up bags with our dinner clothes but would also like to hang up as much of our other stuff as I can. I will bring hangers if needed but just wondering if there are already some there. THANKS!!!
