Today I went to a bookstore about 45 minutes from my home to see Buddy Valestro- the Cake Boss on the cable station TLC. He was doing a book signing. I got there about 9:45 and there were people in line already. He was not scheduled to come until 12:30. It was freezing! We kind of took turns saving spots while people went to their cars to get warm for a while. The wind was awful! Finally he came and I got some great pictures. I was about #25 in line. There had to be at least 300 or more people there. I managed to get a picture taken with him. He seems just like he is on TV- very friendly, funny and an all around nice guy. Now I am trying to get warm again. Will go and see if We are still in a lifeboat or we have a cabin number.

I love that show! He is so funny.

It all sounds wonderful to those of us just entering winter!!! Imagine sitting in the warmth, smelling new blooms and hearing cicadas. Aaaaah.

Hi there(again)

Do you mean a picture of our Lifeboat Crew t shirt graphic from the 2008 PC cruise?

Very cute! There was one in someone's siggie I assumed was for this cruise...

Hey Everyone,

Hi everyone,

In addition to being EXTREMELY EXCITED to be going to see Oprah, we are also looking forward to this cruise!!

This will be our second cruise with DCL, and our first one on the Wonder.

We are having one week in Orlando prior to the cruise, and six days in Anaheim after the cruise.

Our names are Catherine, Warren and Kate. Kate will celebrate her birthday (she will be 15 on the 8th January) on the cruise.

We are looking forward to meeting you all and having a WONDERful time!

Have a good day!

Catherine

::welcome:: Catherine, Warren & Kate!!!

Our DD is 14.5 (almost) on this cruise and has celebrated several birthdays on DCL -- such fun! We are rooming close to Sally (EMUN) and gang...understanding that Aussies are such a quiet:dance3:group...looking to meeting your group!

As someone formerly from New Jersey and now a happy Floridian, I can honestly say that snow is seriously overrated. ;)

In any case, the website's list is once again current. I just had the first GTY conversions. I'm still absolutely amazed at the numbers of people we have on this ship. I'm starting to narrow down films for the Sci Fi nights. I'm thinking of doing 3 nights with 2 movies each night. The short list is

Star Trek - First Contact
Star Trek - Wrath of Kahn
Star Trek (JJ Abrams)
Battlestar Galactica - New Series Pilot
Serenity
Doctor Who (Not sure on which episodes yet, I'm sure Jen and John will pick a few good ones)

I'm absolutely showing the first 3 show we can let trekygirl know that Star Trek V is *NOT* a good film. I'm a huge firefly fan, so Serenity is on my list.

I'm open for suggestions though, and if we have a good interest, I can always try to find a few more nights :)

I know I don't post much, but when you start talking about Star Trek, I join in. For the record, I realize I am probably the only person who thinks Star Trek V is a great movie and I'm fine with that :) I tend to like the ones that no one else enjoys. For those of you who watch Big Bang Theory, my liking of Star Trek V is echoed by the great Sheldon Cooper in the episode "The Lizard-Spock Expansion." Here's a quote from the episode that I think sums up my feelings on this particular movie...

Leonard: How can 5 not be worse than 1?
Rajesh: Yeah, Star Trek 5 worse than 1.
Sheldon: Ok, first of all that is a comparison of quality not intensity. Secondly, Star Trek 1 is orders of magnitude worse than Star Trek 5.
Rajesh: Are you joking? Star Trek 5 is the standard against which all badness is measured!
Sheldon Cooper: No, no! Star Trek 5 has specific failures in writing and direction while Star Trek 1 fails across the board: art direction, costuming, music, sound editing.

Just as an FYI, JJ Abrams Star Trek movie is one of the best ever! Right behind First Contact. I can't wait for the next one to come out!

Star Trek: The Motion Picture suffered from a lack of budget, and yet it still managed to be a fairly good plot. VGER was an interesting idea. The Final Frontier was an abortion and while it had decent special effects and a strong budget, the directing and plot lines were atrociously bad. I'd rather watch the film that scored 50% across the board then the one that scored 0% in writing and direction. Though nothing, and I mean NOTHING is as horribly stupid of a plot device as the sudden realization in Wrath of Khan that the ships can move in not only the X and Y plane, but the Z plane as well. Amazing tactics there from the Captain who beat the Kobayashi Maru test. At least Ricardo Montablan made up for that :)

I am originally from WA and I miss the snow every year. The only thing close I get, is we go to Lake Lure for a handful of days in November now. Not snow, but at least real autumn. To each their own! :goodvibes

How can 5 not be worse than 1?

#1 is boring. #5 is boring AND ridiculous.

I love the Undiscovered Country (#6) am I alone in that one? Although Christopher Plummer chews more scenery than Godzilla.

At the risk of being pummeled, I fell asleep at the movie theater at Star Trek 1. Never bothered with another..:lmao:

I would definitely agree that Star Trek 1 and 5 are horrible. #4 and JJ's latest are the best to watch with non scifi lovers in my opinion.

Where do we plan on watching these by the way? Is there a place we can reserve?

Stateroom 8516. At least till we run out of room. If we did anything public, we'd end up with having to pay all sorts of money and what not.

Welcome aboard! To echo JenKatt, check out all the information in the first few posts on the first page of this thread, and PM your information to TigFanJeff for the website (link in my siggie)

We are in the midst of an ice and snow storm. Can't believe it. Schools are closed or have a delay opening. As a retired teacher I was one of the few that hated "snow days" because I knew we would be making them up in June when it was hot.

Need to start packing to go back to FL. This weather give me the push to do it.

Snowing here too. We've got about an inch, and it's sticking!
Better that it's today than this weekend when I'm driving in your direction.

Hello!

A lot of cruisers are runners.....does anyone enjoy yoga?

I've done a few classes on the ships on deck 7. Balance poses can be a challenge sometimes! We like to cruise in January and EVERY time, the Disney CM that teaches yoga says it's "TOO Cold or windy " to have the class on the beach at CC. He was obviously not from Iowa! So I do it by myself because I think it's beautiful, warm and the ultimate place to "Ommmm"

I'm bringing a travel mat with me for my own practice on the ship. Sometimes someone in the fitness center will check out a mat to me and sometimes they won't. I like to find a quiet place on the ship and do my own thing.

Would anyone like to join me? I was thinking of deciding on possible times when we get onboard. Maybe just have a list of interested folks and send a message around after we see the day's activities. I've signed up for so many fun things already and I also go to everything DIsney plans!!! I WILL need to schedule a moment to slow down.

And if anyone would just like to try it? I've been doing yoga for several years but definitely not a "pretzel" person! And it's for any body type . I'm 55 and a bit overweight, although working on it!...... I enjoy the stretching and calmness of the practice. I have some "classes" that are on my i-pod. And sometimes when I'm with others who don't have a pre-planned flow that they always do.......we just say "hey, let's do this pose next." So my sessions are very flexible and friendly.

I'll see if a list can be put on the first page if more then one person is interested.

Namaste Barb

Oh my! I also like late nights!! On previous cruises, they met at 3:00 or so! That's PM.

I'll check closer to leaving, Lori and Tami, to see if we want to meet sometime and give it a try. My plans do not include sunrise though. :rotfl2:

PM me or post, if anyone else wants to be included in a yoga gathering.

Barb

Might try it at 7 am with no one else around. When you have a plan and a time, I'll put it up on the front page of this thread.

LURKERS! IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO COME OUT AND IDENTIFY YOURSELVES, FOLKS!
Post here and PM your info to TigFanJeff for the website.

So why are we throwing Doctor Who in with "Bad Sci-fi night"? Okay, they're not all bad. The good ones in that list are:

Serenity
ST:TWOK

and thats it.

get rid of all the TNG junk, toss the odd numbered ST movies and get something enjoyable. And I will go through that stateroom on the first day and chuck that JJ Abrams horror overboard. (Vulcan destroyed... GRRRRRR)

lets try and get some GOOD sci-fi instead. I recommend

War of the Worlds (the 1950s version)
Empire Strikes Back
Blade Runner
Planet of the Apes (the original one not the c**p remake)
Twelve Monkeys
The Day the Earth Stood Still (the original one, again)
Aliens (Cause it's the basis for every FPS game)
Mad Max: The road Warrior.

there are also some movies that are great in one respect but not all around awesome which might make for some good viewing:

Gattica
Brazil
Contact
Independence Day
Dune
Logan's Run
star trek IV and VI

we should also intersperse these with a bunch of "Duck Dodgers" shorts.

btw, the position for "worst Sci-fi movie EVER is no longer Star Trek V. Its been surpassed in awfulness by both "Wing Commander" and "Battlefield Earth". though Battlefield Earth's awful random camera angle changes may seem straight when shown at rough seas.

I'll sort out Doctor Who sometime later :)

John

Ok, wait. So the new BSG pilot is bad, but Independence Day is good?

And Wing Commander is only bad because of Freddy Prinze Jr.
