From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 4

So much for an extended reply tonight ! Worked this morning, then came home and napped intermittently on the lounge for three hours ! Poor kids - first weekday of school holidays wasn't much fun !

Wish me luck for tomorrow - I'm going to have "the talk" with my boss - the ultimatum - either casual work from herein, or I'm resigning. I've finally hit the wall with this weekend work (every weekend !).

Diane - welcome to the group ! I can tell this is going to be a great cruise. I have a 13 yo DD, who isn't sure where she's going to hang out on the cruise, but she's posted twice on the tween/teen thread (once under my name, and once under her own username with the same information).

Oh, did have something nice today - the IPO from the Boardwalk contacted me :) They're going to help me tidy up a few things for our WDW stay.

Oh, and Gail - the Scout badges arrived today :) Hope you like them - they're an intersting array :rolleyes1

I will try to get on here tomorrow ! Sorry !

Cheers,
Sally :)

Hello everyone,

I would like introduce ourselves. Forgive me, I'm new to posting and new to this whole cruise meet concept. My family & I will be going on this exciting cruise thru the Panama Canal. We have 2 connecting rooms on deck 2 aft. I will be traveling with my two girls who are 11 & almost 13. Then my mom and brother will in the other room. (My husband is not interested/unable to come.)

We have been fortunate to travel a number of times together to WDW. Then spring of 2009 we did a "try me" 3 night cruise on the Wonder. It worked! My family was hooked. I couldn't wait to get back on that ship. So needless to say we are super excited for this trip. We will be flying in on Jan. 1st and hit each of the parks once. I fell in love with the christmas decorations 2 years ago. So I'm excited to see the dream castle lights & the lights display @ DHS again.

Welcome to the cruise, we are Jill (Hart) and Danny Bouska from Texas. We are traveling with my daughter and her family. She has a DD 9 and a DD 12.
Nice to have you aboard.

I see you have a lot of things planned during the cruise. I don't know how much we will participate in. But it looks like there is a good chance we will bump into some people since it is such a big group. I'm hoping there are some nice kids that my girls can hang out with since it is such a long cruise. I would love to experience some of the adult areas from time to time.

Diane

I was just thinking - always gets me in trouble. A number of people mentioned they liked the idea of getting recipes on their post card exchange. What if people who sign up for a recipe exchange and Gail kept track of them, (thanks for offering to take this on). Then we each bring enough copies of our recipe for the number of people who want to participate. I'd make up a cover for each of us. Basically, we'd end up with a recipe book from our cruise.

Any interest? To late to take on one more thing? val

I don't have an cookie recipes but I do have some great PA Dutch cake an pie recipes if I can contribute one of those instead?

Is the zip-lining in PV still available? I also thought I saw a fishing excursion that I can't find now??

The PV zip line DIS group tour mentioned on page 1 is still open. There really is no deadline. (I was told the last day to sign up was the day before). So if anyone is slightly interested you may want to take the number with you incase a DCL excursion is cancelled for some reason, you will have a backup. Just let me know if you book so I can keep track of everyone and make sure no one is missed when we leave.

We have our cruise docs and I have all my FE "stuff"....just need to find time to get it ready. We have all the Secret Mickey gifts too just need to finishe that up too. I'm sure I'll have a few afternoons of staying in the room while DD is sleeping so I'm not stressing about putting the bags together.

I'm home today with DD who is sick. I took her to get a flu shot at Dr on Friday and she gets a cold from the other sick kids in the waiting room. :sad2:

I've been searching the Disney Cruise Line web site for Formal nights on our cruise and other things....does anyone know where you can find this information? I'd like to know how many Formal nights we have, and how many special nights (Like Island night, if they have that).

Also, I'd like to know their dress code....I swear, it use to be easy to find information on the cruise web site, but I'm not having no luck! :sad1:

Sorry if this has been posted already, but there are pages and pages of post on here, and I'm too lazy to browse through them all....

Thanks in advance.

Don't you just love website upgrades that remove / hide the useful information?!? No worries on reading the pages-on-pages of our daily chats...LINDABABE has great information summarized on Page 1 of this thread and post #2 has the dinner details you are looking for...:cool1:YEAH:cool1:!!!

Happy Monday Cruisers!!! One Calendar month til we sail...will Port Canaveral have a special send-off??? This will be the last sail-away for the WONDER from PC for a very long time...pirate:pirate:

Welcome Diane and family.

Feel free to join in at any time (we don't bite :rotfl:)

I did order a couple of extra order of the ditch certificates (with no names) some for me to hand out to cast members as gifts, but a couple of spares for people who 'missed the boat' with the certificate ordering. Let me know if you want one of the spare ones. Alternatively you can order them in singles directly from the publisher, but you don't get the same discounted rate that we got for a bulk order.

Hi all:

Okay, on our last cruise, the themed nights were a little more clearly labeled (at least for my mind!) so I was able to plan costuming better.

I see from the post on Page 1 that we have a list of menus, and the Formal/Semi formal nights are listed, but I guess we're supposed to extrapolate from the menu what the theme is for the night.

Pirates is pretty clear but I don't really get if/what other costume nights there are. I see "Mexicali" and I assume that's Mexican costumes, but I don't get if you are "supposed" to dress any particular way for any other nights. (I get that this is all optional, but I don't want to miss the fun!)

Taste of the Caribbean, Panama, Taste of California and Flavors from around the world are all listed menus. Do we dress for those nights in any particular themed way?

Forgive me if this has been discussed before. I've been so out of the loop for the last month! I promise to sick around more for the duration!

~T

Tracy, I don't think those menu's you mentioned are ones you dress up for. I think there is a Prince and Princess menu which is a formal night. On our Sept TA, there were lots of ladies who really dressed up in very princessy dresses and wore tiaras etc.

We did think that Toy Story night would be one you could dress up for. On the Magic it is Villains, and lots dressed up for that one.

Mexicalifragilistic is Mexican as you thought. Do you remember we had a Tropical night on the 2008 PC, but I'm wondering if Toy Story replaces that. I loved all the Tropical themed clothes that night.

I think there is a second formal night isn't there? Normal formal I guess.:confused3

Welcome to the newest cruisers!

I'm all for cookie recipe sharing- but would prefer to do it online either before or after- that way I don't have to keep track of lots of quarter sheet size pieces of paper on the cruise, at DL after and on the way home.

Sign me up to share a recipe though. (do we need to bring the product to share on the cruise? as though there's not enough to eat already)

One month from now some of us may be boarding already.

Hi, Marilyn:

Yes, I DO remember the Tropical night and that's sort of why I was asking, to see if maybe the "Taste of the Caribbean" was supposed to be the Tropical night, or if maybe Tropical night is gone. I don't see a Toy Story night listed anywhere. When would that be? I'm really confused. Considering this is our 3rd DCL trip, you'd think I'd be more organized but this time around I'm finding myself kind of clueless! That's what I get for spending so much time AWAY from the boards!!!!

Welcome! We are Desiree, my DH Richard and my DD Tori (who will be 14 a week after the cruise).

As others have posted...feel free to ask questions!

On my side of the world..still 3 foster puppies...no one was adopted yesterday :sad2: I will have them until just after Christmas and then they will go to a new foster home which makes me sad as I feel like I failed in a way. Difficult to explain.

As for me medical issues...I have more tests this week so hopefully they will figure out what is wrong with me.

On the good news side! The docs arrived! :cheer2::cheer2: So We have luggage tags and some info.

UPDATE: I have heard from Alvaro and am happy to report he and his family are fine. Our tour is on too. Here is his response,
"Thanks for your thoughts, we are actually pretty well, the areas affected are far from Puntarenas.
The park of Manuel Antonio was closed of one week after the storm, then they open it again but closing at 1pm instead of 4pm, since a week ago is back to normal, I have done 4 tours to there already after the storm and it is the same, very enjoyable and now we have our dry season so it is very nice.
All roads, bridges and more are fine and it good shape, all the way to Manuel Antonio is fine from Puntarenas.
By January nobody will remember what happened weeks ago.
Regards, Alvaro"

I have sent Alvaro a response back letting him know we are pleased to hear all is well and asking him what is the last date we can give him a final count on the number of people on the tour. Will let you know when I hear back.

For the new people on the thread, here is the info concerning the tour: PM me if you want to join the fun or want more information.

PUNTARENAS, COSTA RICA TOURS UPDATE
03.jpg

Ride in an air-conditioned spacious vehicle, being driven by an experienced driver, to Costa Rica’s most popular national park, Manuel Antonio, where our private nature guide will give us a narrative of the geologic features, national history, local botany, as well as exotic tropical birds, monkeys and sloths we will see. Guide will provide books, binoculars and a spotting scope we can share during our tour

Then enjoy the Manuel Antonio beach, equally good for snorkeling, swimming and just laying on the beach before a lunch stop at a quality restaurant where we can choose among traditional Costa Rican favorites or more familiar foods, such as burgers and fries or sandwiches.

On the way back to the ship we will have an opportunity, if time permits, to stop at a number of photo opportunities and souvenir shopping spots. These might include Villa Lupas and Santa Lucia, an eco-friendly resort within a tranquil rain-forest preserve for nature lovers.

Oddessy has offered to provide us with two 34 seat buses for 14 to 22 passengers and two 16 seat vans for groups between 6 and 8 passengers, allowing ample room for a comfortable journey and movement to see animal sightings. Of course there will be driver and nature guide on each vehicle for the party going on it.

The cost of this full-day tour, with park entry fee and lunch included is $85 per person plus tip. Children under 8 years old receive 15% off, under age 3 are free. Oddessy Tours can now accept credit card payments.

The following 7 cruiser families and 22 individuals have indicated they will be joining us on this tour.
ChipperMerlin 2
Dolphingirl 47 2
Izma 2
PBader 4
Tami0220 2
Tinkryansmoms 8

I think we presumed on here that the night they had the Toy Story show would be a theme night. Nothing advertised at all as far as I remember. I am sure everything was more organised last time and we knew everything in good time.

I guess it would be quite nice if anyone fancied it to dress up appropriately for any of the themed menus if they could be bothered!!

As I don't like the Pirate night menu we will go to Beach Blanket that night so I'm not taking Pirate gear. I can't see us dressing up for Toy Story, though I will love seeing everyone else. I will have 1 formal dress, something for semi formal, and various decent clothes for normal nights. Oh, and a bit of an attempt at Mexican as John has his Guayabera from last time and I have just got an embroidered blouse. Unfortunately just black embroidery on white, but with a reddish skirt, some beads and silver jewellery, I might get away with it!!!:lmao:

Just looked at the dining schedule on page 1. Been ages since I looked. How odd that Prince and Princess is semi formal. Ah well!!! I certainly won't be looking princessy at all(if I ever did!!!!!)

Been lurking a lot lately and trying to keep up.

Some of my FE gifts have been on backorder :scared1: Hopefully coming within 10 days. I don't even have a FE yet.

Just started packing clothes-we don't need those shorts now anyway. Trying to borrow more luggage since I got a room for DH and DS#3 at the last minute.

We are flying in the night before the cruise. Do we have to pick up our luggage or will Disney pick it up and hold it overnight? Still need to get a room at MCO Hyatt.

Also still need to get transfers from port to hotel and hotel to airport. I know nothing about CA or LA so it is daunting to pick.

Is the zip-lining in PV still available? I also thought I saw a fishing excursion that I can't find now??

I hope you all are better planners than I am, I seem to be way behind.

Ok, I was curious about DCL picking up our luggage too. The documents say there is no need to go to baggage claim as they will pick it up. Is that only if you fly in the day of? Guess I will call Disney to verify.

I don't have an cookie recipes but I do have some great PA Dutch cake an pie recipes if I can contribute one of those instead?

I would love the PA Dutch cake recipes!

Very cool!

Thank you all! I wish Disney had this up on their web site.....Oh well, this is exactly what I was looking for.

Whew - all caught up.

No docs here - maybe today?

Welcome to the new families! 30 days!!:cool1:

I just got my documents this past weekend, I tried checking in for our air from LAX but they couldn't find me in the system.....I'm working with my travel agent to figure that out.

Formal nights - hmmm, I really hate packing too much clothes, would it be terrible to wear something the first formal night and again on the 3rd? I only have it on for a few hours.... I would love to get by with only one suitcase!
