My husband - to try and win our discussion just said - Ask on your DISboards, you'll see - your wrrrong. I make him the old fashion fruit cake - the recipe has 28 cups of the fruit and nuts, plus 12 eggs and sugar and spices and cake stuff. I suggested I only make half of my normal recipe because he is the only one who eats it. Plus it costs a bazillion dollars to make.
He disagrees with my making only half as much. Because I am wrong that no one in our world likes it but him and no one wants it as a gift (I eat it but only with a lot of sharp good cheese and a stiff drink). So the questions - who likes fruit cake?? Who would rather a Palo Chocolate Souffle (IS that cheating to ask you to compare?)
Val
Tell Bob I'll come up and help him eat fruit cake. You and my DH can have all the Palo Chocolate Souffle you want. I don't care for it - could be because chocolate is not one of my fave foods.
We buy the Costco fruit cakes now - the price is right and they freeze - DH makes individually-wrapped slices for later. My FIL loved the fruit cake version that required 1 pound each of candied cherries, candied pineapple and pecans, with just enough batter to hold them together. It was good.
I also love the Christmas cake with marzipan and frosting. YUM!!! We do a Kiwi version of it. Another fave "fruit cake" is made with Turkish apricots and pecans. Not a traditional fruitcake, though.
I think I'll go cut a piece of the Costco fruit cake and have it with a cup of coffee.
