From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 4

I can't believe how close we're getting to this cruise. I get overwhelmed just thinking about all I need to do/pack. But for now it's taking back seat to the school application for DD. I feel like I'm filling out a college app, but really it's just for Pre-K. It's really competitive to get into this school, especially for Pre-K. There are only 28 spots - 14 boys, 14 girls. But I've heard over and over that they like to keep the sibling/alum kids to 50% or less, so DD is really competing for 1 of 7 spots. (DS is at the school now, and DH went there K-12.) It's stressful, but once I get this app submitted I can forget about the process until we get back from the cruise and DD has to go for group observation.

Some fun news, though. Our neighbor's daughter is getting married in May and I was just asked if DD and DS would like to be in the wedding. They are going to be so excited. I haven't told them because I figured it would be more fun coming from the bride when she gets home from college in a few weeks. And DS already has his own tux! (I'd say the $25 I spent on it is definitely well worth it - 3 wears on ship, and a wedding too.)

Another quickie - I've decided to have a Disney tell-all this Friday. It's my 40th on Saturday, so our holiday will be the primary topic of discussion amongst family at my birthday dinner, as they all know about the trip. As such, the kdis will need to know before then, so Friday we will be having a Disney party. Fridays are my favourite day of the week anyway - no work, no homework, no extra-curricular, so the perfect opportunity to break it to them. I am going to make them each a little Disney package, and we will have a Disney themed cake, and an "everyone will eat this" dinner :rotfl:

The only fly in the ointment is my silly dental appointment Friday morning

39 sleeps to go ! :cool1:

Cheers,
Sally :)
Sounds like it's going to be an exciting Disney weekend around your house. And early "Happy Birthday" wishes to you.

Did a bit of shopping yesterday. Got Jack some more "cold" weather clothes, not knowing what we'll have come January. I did get him some dress clothes, I'll get him a tux at some point.
I did get myself an amazing cocktail dress yesterday on the 70% off rack at Macy's. I love the dress (and the fact that I can wear it). It's also very packable, unlike some of the other dresses I've gotten lately.
Did the online check in, have to finish it up, but one less thing to do. The basket of cruise stuff is starting to overflow. I think I may need to move onto a suitcase.
Once this semester is over, I'll have less than a month to get everything done. Oh yeah, throw Christmas and my birthday in for good measure. And getting a whole new wardrobe. 45 pounds down and NOTHING fits. Still losing though, so I can't buy anything just yet....

Well done on the weight loss Jen. It feels good doesn't it?

making grocery list for Turkey Day -- just the 3 of us but we could feed 12 -- and I want to beat the store rush! It's cool & overcast, so big pot of Chili is simmering for this evening. Lots of 'housechores' and finally, I need to make kennel arrangements for our pups while sail.

Wishing everyone a WONDERful Monday:wizard:

Tahara

Ooh, you are right, it is great Chili (or some other soup) weather. I may have to make Chicken and Dumplings! I'll be hitting the store sometime this week too. I don't even want to get near a grocery store next week!

One thing I forgot to mention above, still need to get DD her formal dresses. She is 11 and almost 5'3" and doesn't fit in "kid" dresses. I've looked at junior dresses and found a cute one for semi-formal but not finding much for formal. So many are too revealing. I really hate to spend the money for custom dresses that she will wear one time. Any suggestions???

WTG:yay::yay::yay: That is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! And thanks for the reminder about Macy's. Haven't been there in a couple of weeks, don't know what's wrong with me!

I can't believe this cruise is a little over two months away.

We leave for WDW the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so that's my main priority right now. I've still got to get my FE gift together, still waiting on a room assignment, gotta figure out what to pack, we've got Christmas in between which means presents, decorating, meals, etc. Too much to do and so little time.:scared1:

Not to scare you, but it's LESS than two months away

Hello Everyone!:cool2:

My mom (Cruisin' Dearie) and I will be joining you on this amazing cruise. I was very excited to find the DISboards and this thread, even though we are kind of late in joining. There seems to be a lot of very fun people on here!

My mother surprised me a few weeks ago with an invitation to be her companion through the Panama Canal. We have a cat. 11C GTY so far, so we're waiting patiently (not!) in a lifeboat!

I'm hoping we can meet up with some of you. I've been reading the thread and I'll send PMs to those of you who are planning some of the activities. We would enjoy being a part of the "Champagne Girls" get together and the room tour. We are happy to open our room to the tour, if you really want to see a lifeboat :rotfl2:.

I noticed that several people were on the Sep. westbound TA Magic cruise. My parents were aboard and had a wonderful time. I've cruised Disney once, last May for a 7 night eastern Caribbean trip.

We are counting down the days,

Stephanie

Welcome, Stephanie and crew! :welcome:

Hi all!

The packing is coming together to move us into our new home (and yes, I do have a box just for DCL/FE/Secret Mickey)! About three weeks and we will be in. We will so need this cruise. And I found the perfect Mickey bathroom accessories....

I went on Youtube and a travel agent put up a five-part video of a walking tour she went on in October -- if you've never seen the Wonder, it will give you a really good sense of what everything looks like onboard.

Pixie dust to those of you waiting for stateroom assignments! :wizard:

We ordered our shuttle to LAX and pick up at San Pedro -- the LAST thing we had to do to make the trip complete -- but I had a question: The DCL site says guests ashore at 9:30 -- is that when disembarkation begins or when all guests will be off by? (sorry, it's early and the coffee hasn't kicked in).... :3dglasses

Figured I'd post this here to see if/when cabins are assigned for all of us on a GTY. In another post the wonder cabins have been assigned through the end of December, so they are getting closer to our cruise!

Not expecting to get an upgrade, but will hapily take one. I'd just like to know what cabin we have.

So if anyone is checking once a day (or more) to see what cabin you've received, don't forget to post any upgrades. :)

Documents are sent out at 45 days so they will want all of our cabins assigned by then. I keep checking everyday hoping.....but nothing this morning. Hope you get the cabin you want, that goes for all of us that are GTY.:banana::banana:

How AWESOME is that? Congrats.

I was under the impression, like any of the other ports, that it was when we could get off the ship. I based our return flight on that as well. I asked DCL several times and they just kept saying not to book before noon (pat answer) so they were not much help either. Will it really be that late??

Does anyone know the layout? How far is the cruise terminal from downtown Manzanillo? Is it walkable?

Thanks......52 days to go !!! :banana::banana::banana:

We are doing DCL transfers to GCH. When we cruised out od LA 3 years ago it was a mess. We used Prime Time Shuttle what a nightmare. They were a hour late picking us up then returning to DL was even worse the guy had no idea how to get to DL even with a GPS! Tried to get an earlier appointment for my knee but no go. It is really starting to bother me. There is a possibility that I will need surgery and have it done on the 10th or 17th. He only operates on Friday. We shall see. I was going to try and start excersing but the knee has put that out of limits.

So sorry you have to add this to your pre-cruise list! I will hope it all goes easily and the cyst can be dealt with quickly.

Sorry we're going to miss the get-together today. We were so looking forward to meeting you. Our dot-ter, 7 yr old dalmatian Cocoa, had to have a large cancerous tumor removed from her mouth and is still not able to be left alone. We tried to find a sitter but...well, you know how that goes! Anyway I know we're sure to meet onboard. Have a great time today.

Jackie
Gett well soon cocoa
It didn't take me too long to get caught up today - or yesterday either I don't think.

But, I have nothing new to report. I do have a cruise task (or a Florida task anyway) that needs to be completed soon. I have not booked an offsite park and fly yet and I need to do that. Added to list.

Also - I think I told you that youngest DS got officially engaged earlier this fall. And if not - he did! We are meeting her folks and brother (one I already know as they are all students at Alma College) in Frankenmuth this weekend. That should be fun - ant that is not sarcastic. I am looking forward to meeting them. We will all be together for the first time.

Cant wait to hear all about it.

The cruise stateroom map is updated. Couple of new pictures today as well. I'm also sure as soon as someone figures out what's different on the map there will be a busy thread ;) But I'm not telling.

The site is once again current with everything that I have. 2 more lifeboats converted as well.

Since I have today off of work - I finally made our final reservation. We are staying at the Residence Inn, Cape Canaveral on the 4th & 5th and have also reserved our car too. So now that I've finally taken care of that, if there are any get togethers near the port we would love to join in.
