Oh Lynne, dinner in Topsiders isn't a buffet. We love it there. All subdued lighting and calm, and table service apart from the salad bar. The salad bar is wonderful too. You can go just in your normal clothes, though I can't do that, I always clean up and change anyway. We have always had such lovely attentive servers there. I don't know why they serve there. I have read all sorts of things like trainees, people who need a bit of extra training etc. Whatever, they are very nice. Also the food has been fantastic. John had his best steak onboard there, and the first time I had a proper turkey dinner!! It is just nice if you don't fancy making a big effort for dinner or you fancy a night away from your table mates, or just because.

We had dinner at Topsiders on the PC crossing day in 08 because we didn't want to be holed up in a restaurant and miss going through the final lock. It was awesome - we had a window table and a great view.
My understanding is that the servers there are often either trainees, or assistant servers who are looking to move up. They were excellent. The meal was fine.

I was surprised how strongly some people feel about which restaurant they want to be in for a particular night. Yes, nice to be in Lumieres on formal night, but once you sit down it is more about the people you are eating with. Parrot Cay is my least favourite restaurant, but I can cope. Pirate Night? I don't care where I eat. Actually I prefer Topsiders as I don't like the Pirate menu.

The only thing I care about is the food itself, and that is either the same or rotates - so ultimately you get the same food (except, I think, at Topsiders). I've never cared about the actual rotation.

I really don't care which restaurant we are in as long as I am not doing the cooking. After spending 25 days on the Magic I couldn't wait to have a simple piece of meat- like a piece of meatloaf and a piece of plain chocolate cake.

Does anyone know who the cruise director will be on the PC

Will be at DW on December 9 & 10 and then dec. 14 for MVMCP -anyone else going to be there on these dates?

Was that an early dining time or late dining?

I thought/hoped for christian

We went through the final lock during early dining however, it was supposed to be earlier. We were caught in a really fantasic lighting storm that held us in the final lake for longer then originally planned.

We had early dining and we started through the lock just before we went to dinner but I believe we had gotten through by the time we were finished. We did go out and peek a few times to see how we were doing.

We will most likely by going on the 10th. We usually go every Friday in Dec, we love the holiday season at DW.

We will be staying at SSR the week of Thanksgiving with 9 other family members from SC.

Have a wonderful time. We always use to come to WDW for a week to include December 10 - our wedding anniversary. I miss that so much along with many other things. My husband & I both loved all of the holiday season at Disney. We especially enjoyed the Candlelight Procressional at Epcot. Disney has given me some of my most awesome memories!

What might be the benefits to changing my res to a GTY for this cruise? I am currently 9A and my TA advises against as I may end up with a "not as nice as the one you are in now" stateroom. Anybody have some insight?

I don't care what restaurant I'm in either or what I'm missing for Palo!

Well, you MIGHT get an upgrade. Or you might not. If you booked a 9A GTY you wouldn't be assigned to anything less than a 9A stateroom, but you couldn't pick the deck or the area of the ship you'd get assigned to, that sort of thing.

There is no set dining time in Topsiders/ Beach Blanket (depending on what ship).

Not sure why you would want to do that.:confused3 Most GTY people are impatient to know what their room numbers are.

I guess I was thinking that with the cruise appearing to not sell as well as they might hope, i might get an upgrade....but as you say I might not. Best stay put!;)

I am one happy guy. My Ohio State Buckeyes just beat the Miami Huicanes. Let's go Bucks.

We have a suite that doesn't accommodate all of us and we booked an 11A because that was the lowest we could get at the time. We just switched the 11A to 11C GTY at final payment and saved $440. Not a ton of money over 15 days, but it does pay for a lot of bahama mamas. In our case, the extra room is only used for sleeping and by changing it we may even get an upgrade. If not, we have an inside room on 2 instead of 7. Not a big deal to us. Last time we had the old cat 12 as our second stateroom and did not get an upgrade and it worked out just fine, but it was a spring break cruise and it was full, full, full!

And we are quite happy too! Our Michigan Wolverines just beat the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

And our Mountaineers won yesterday! Hurray for college football!:cheer2: Not so fortunate for our high school team as we lost 34-21, but we are proud of them anyway because the team we played, you are three touchdowns behind when you get off the bus!:headache:It is a fact! At least that is behind us and no one is looking back. We have great kids and they are looking ahead to this week which is a five hour drive. It is half way to our dd in South Carolina. She & her dh are planning to come to the game!! Got to love my dsil! He is so great. To drive all that way to watch his nephew play football is really something.

Disney dreams to all you happy cruisers!:goodvibes

My brother goes to WVU, he was quite happy they won!

Good Saturday night to my fellow cruisers!

I just want to say thanks to all active and past military. It is because of you that we have the freedoms we enjoy today. God bless all of you! Prayers to everyone deeply touched by the horror of today, nine years ago.

I'm glad to see so many platinum and concierge cruisers have gotten what they want. Only a few more weeks until we get to book our excursions and whatnot. I can't wait!

I agree, I don't really care what dining room I'm in, so long as it's on the ship.:rotfl: We may plan on room service on lock day, especially if we have a good view from our balcony. Fellow disers are always welcome!

Thanks for the advice on the dining plan at DL. I'm going to change our reservation and cancel it. We're staying at DL Hotel, Carly's choice.

Jen, we would love to meet up on Jan. 5. Carly and I are coming in to BLT on the 2nd and Joe is joining us the 5th. Thanks to you and Jeff for all you're doing!
Tenya

Well..the puppy meeting went well and our foster puppy has been adopted! The family will return to pick her up tomorrow. 1 puppy adopted.. 2 more to go!

I know I will cry when they pick her up - I can't help it!
