How is your Dad?

Thanks for asking about him. He says he's in great shape for the shape he's in. He turns 94 August 16 but his doc's say with the little he's drinking, he may not be here then. I know DD on this will be very sad to hear this. But it's just so hard and talking helps me. Anyway, I am glad so many of you have such doing well parents! I suspect at 57 I could be the age of some of your parents!! :-D .

Thansk and still hope to see you in January!

Sherri
(and Alan)

Our Dollar Tree has sets of 3 disney sand molds for $1.00. I picked up one fo each set. They had Little Mermaid, Nemo, Toy Story and characters (Mickey, Minnie & Goofy). The also have sand pails with shovels and other sand toys.
We pick up pirate outfits for DD on clearance after Halloween.

We got the same molds a few months back..I think we got Nemo and Little Mermaid along with a shovel and pail..my DD is 13 but still loves to play in the sand.

DD and I are off to Arizona tomorrow to visit my sister for a few days..DH will stay home and take care of the animals....preparing myself for the heat! (I know..it's a dry heat) :rotfl2:

Well, its sounds like he is comfterable at least.Your welcome and hope to see you in January too.

We are going Oct 18-22 at Kidani then onto Cocoa Beach to the Carnival Dream to celebrate my husbands US citizenship. Can't wait. We need a vacation now but have to wait till Oct.

I will be at OKW from 10/21-10/27.

Well, I've been to the desert - Israel - several times. Let me tell you - dry heat is not much worse (if the temp is higher)!! Have fun!

We'll be at the World around October 9th for F&W. We'll be doing Party for the Senses that weekend... I love WDW in October. It use to be the best time to go, no one was ever there!

Sherri - thinking of you and your dad. I'm glad that talking about it help :flower3:s. My parents are both 83, and are desperately trying to "cram in" as much living as they can - three cruises booked within the next year for them !

OK, token irritating question from the person-with-no-sense-of-traffic in LA (again!). I didn't realise that SWA also fly out of other LA airports. There is a flight from Ontario which leaves 8.05am. I think what I'll do is use the previous night / that morning to try to transition ourselves to FL time. So the question is, is Ontario easier to get to than LAX ? I'm assuming since it's a much smaller airport that it won't be as busy as well. What time will we need to leave in order to make the flight ?

Thanks again.

OH ! And exciting news - I just made my first ADR for the WDW portion of our trip !!! :cool1:

Cheers,
Sally :)

As far as the pirate costumes, I looked last year after Halloween and there were a few mismatched pieces available at Target but the party store doesn't discount pirate costumes EVER. I asked them about it and they said that since they are a year round item, I shouldn't expect to find them on clearance.

I have gotten pirate costumes at 50 to 75% off the day or two after Halloween 2 years in a row, from a store we have called "Spirit Halloween"- its a store that comes to town and "sets up shop" in a store location just for seasonal use, so they discount everything right after the holiday. Do you have anything like that?

How exciting!! We get to make ours the first week of July, so excited to get the ball rolling and feel one step closer to the big day!

Absolutely agree!! Not only was no one there, the haunted house people only come out in October. I loved it! and often it was warm enough to swim, making the early closing ok - and making the trip more restfull as we have to see every favortite thing every time!!

Alan prefers December with the lights, but it's too crowded (though i'll take vacation any time!!). I remember the first time we went down in december - met my best college friend with our 12 yo DDs and my 9 and her 8 yo DD/DS and my 3 year old. I discovered you can't find them in the dark! Had to work on a different getting around strategy since DH thought if he walked faster, we'd keep up. not! but it was fun!

Sherri

Yes, but I hope everybodys parents are doing ok, mines are enjoying retirement and Im so glad for them.

I that case...my dad is doing great and love sailing in the SF bay as often as possible. He took up sailing after my mom passed away 12 yrs ago at age 59, and now has a great group of friends to enjoy. Enjoy life to the fullest, we never know what's around the corner.:)

There's a lot to be said for being in great shape for the shape he's in! Sounds like his attitude is good. It's wonderful he's been doing this well into his 90s. Keep talking, we're great at listening and hopefully we can be of some help or comfort to both you and your DD.

On the lighter side:
Disney has been running some cute commercials for the new World of Color show at DCA, I can't wait to see it.

DVC members the 2011 proposed point for the new Aulani resort is posted.

Here is something to keep you going until Jan next year...

DCL09-Heads-Up-fl-web.jpg
Beautiful layout. I want to be there NOW!
I set a goal for myself, to get all pics from 2008 EBPC cruise scrapped before leaving for this one. I have a looooong way to go since I snapped over 2000 in the 2 weeks.

That's a beautiful page, Kay!

Are you planning on doing any scrapbooking on your cruise?
"Have laptop, will travel." I originally got into digi scrapping because I never got a chance to sit and work with paper/scissors/adhesive. But while DD napped in the car I made use of my time by plugging in my laptop. I don't know if I'll get any scrapping done on the cruise, but I'll be prepared.

Well, I've been to the desert - Israel - several times. Let me tell you - dry heat is not much worse (if the temp is higher)!! Have fun!
I used to live in southern AZ and I don't care if it is a "dry heat." Once you get above 105/110 it's just plain HOT!

It is good to talk and share how you are feeling and what you are going through. It is a tough time. I so hope you are onboard with us in January.

His attitude sounds good and there is a lot to be said about that. We need to enjoy life with them for as long as we can. My folks will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at the end of July so I think I see another trip to Ohio in my future.

What is it you do again?

I had one night of from nightshift last night and I couldnt sleep, it was rubbish, Len slept like a flimmin baby next to me, so frustrating, now I am back at work for 3 extra night(disney dollars) and Im so tired, hope were quiet so I can get a sleep tonight.

Is there an easy way to answer this?? Probably not, but here goes--I was a science teacher for 15 years and now I (we) provide professional development to teachers in order to help them increase their science (and math) content knowledge as well as their teaching skills. Additionally, we have a contract with Disney for Disney Planet Challenge to write their sample science lessons that teachers can use when beginning the project. We also do the judging for the Challenge (as an aside, check out the Disney Channel this month as this years National Grand Prize Winners for DPC are being honored on Disney 365--it was a very cool project!). The combo require quite a bit of travel, so I am often moving from hotel to hotel. Right now we are in Long Beach working to prep the teacher leaders for all of the summer trainings and writing the curriculum we will use for those trainings--long days and LOTS of typing!
I'm sorry you didn't get sleep...I hope the last couple of days have been better:goodvibes

I have some beach photos of nairn, will post some if I can find them, Nairn is a lovely town, little swimming pool on site, there is a somerfield in nairn that delivers foc to the caravan site if you wanted to have groceries delivered. Also a HUGE tesco 20mins from the site. on the way from inverness to the site.
Oh please, pictures, pictures!!!!
We will be driving from Inverness (actually all the way from the Isle of Iona and Oban that afternoon - L O N G day) - so the tip about the Tesco's might come in handy as a stop off on the way in.

I'll warn my brother about the speed vans. He will be driving up from Cambridgeshire to meet us in Nairn - by the time he gets there, he will probably just want to put his foot down! He is the only driver :-(

I have DS all excited about our Scottish part of trip as I have been talking to him about Shakespeare's Macbeth which mentions Cawdor and Forres (where I went to school for a year).

I'm jealous!!! To quote Shakespeare, "the green-eyed monster is upon me!" I hope you have a WONDERFUL time!!!!

Ontario is by far your better bet. It will probably take you no more than 40 minutes that time of day to get there considering you will be going in the opposite direction of traffic. If you left at 6, you should have plenty of time. Ontario is a much smaller airport, but the SWA section is always crowded so give yourself that one hour check-in just in case. Oh, and the rental car return is off site, but very close and the shuttles run constantly.

Hugs, Sherri. It's hard, isn't it?

There'll be a few of us in your age bracket or even older - I'm 62 but my two roomies are 74 and 76!
