Hi All,

I've been checking my usual air route of MCO to NYC and they just keep going up on Jetblue!! From MCO to JFK for August 26 (inflexible) it is already $229 per person for that one leg. Wow! I've never paid more than $79 each way.

I started looking at other options. Tampa to NYC is $79 each way. What is the travel time like? I put it in mapquest and it came out with approximately 2 hours from the port to tampa airport.

Anyone with real time experience, I would appreciate any comments. There are 7 of us flying so this would save a substantial amount of money even with the rental car thrown in. Any advice, tips, discouragement :) would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mary

I would plan on three hours as opposed to two.

First the traffic getting out of Tampa and on to I-4 can be BRUTAL. They are doing lots of construction there. ALso, they are doing construction on I-4 which can slow you down. And I-4 in Orlando can also be slow.

If it was me I would make sure to arrive a day early if I was doing this... this just adds a lot of potential complexities to the trip...

Thanks Carol!

I figured it would take longer than 2 hours - thanks for a more realistic travel time. We will be able to arrive into MCO 2 days prior to our cruise. It's just the return flight that is so high. Planning..planning...and more planning.

Any more tips out there? Thanks!

Southwest flies out of Jacksonville, Florida to Long Island. Maybe that would work for you. The schedule for August is not open yet but I would imagine in the next month or so that they would be. I did a quick search with the latest day of the schedule open as the date and it was $117 per person one way. It does have a stop in Baltimore. If you have ding loaded on your computer sometimes that have some great deals from Southwest. Hope this helps!!

MapQuest says 138 miles and 2:18. That depends a lot on time of day. I-275 in Tampa can be very crowded. They do suggest bypassing the Disney area by picking up SR417 (The Greeneway) which I would agree with; this gets you on the Bee Line several miles East of Orlando Airport.

However, have you checked Spirit Airlines which flys out of LGA. I am currently booked at $284 round trip in their First Class for an April trip. I tend to fly between MCO and LGA 3 times a year.
