Sept2009-Disney828.jpg

After our adventure around Discovery Island and the TOL, we paused for a photopass photo. There were quite a few people in line in front of us and, believe me, it was blazing hot waiting in that sun. The TOL was such a nice respite for the heat. It really was starting to feel like June all over again.

Believe it or not, we spent about 45 minutes exploring the tree of life and discovery island. It was now around 1:30pm and I really didn't want to leave the park, but I had promised myself that we would get a good break today before heading to MNSSHP. I "sort-of" drug my feet on the way out. I knew I wouldn't be back to AK this trip and I was already starting to miss it.

I did take my final good-by pictures on the way out of the Oasis......

Another light (or two).....

Up Next..... A Pool Break at POP, Dinner at Kona, and MNSSHP!

Wow, awesome photos of all the animals in the Tree of Life! :thumbsup2 I have no idea how many animals are carved, and I don't feel like googling it, so I'll wait for your answer! :confused3

Denise

I have to look up the exact answer and I will post it tonight! I will tell you again, its over 200! I'm glad you like the pictures. I really enjoyed taking them. I'm not a detail person, so it was fun focusing on detail.

OK...I am really enjoying your TR and I'm now up to page 22 but I had to stop and comment on a couple of things before I forget...

I love your photos and description of your meal at FF-when we go for Alice's 16th next year-we'll actually be there for our anniversary too... 6th, 7th -her bd 8th-our anniverary, 9th, 10th 11th...

I had been thinking of Eric and I doing a dinner at either Narcooses or Flying Fish...(since I think we'll do CG or Brown Derby for the 16th BD) and I'm guessing you'd recommend...FF over Narcooses...;)..plus I think I'd rather have a nice quiet dinner with just the two of us...no third party on the plate staring at us...:lmao:...love seafood...and boardwalk is so pretty and night...

Your poor feet...:sad2:...it's amazing how uncomfortable and unhappy such relatively small parts of your body can make you feel...I truly admire your will power to go run the next morning...:worship:...I am inspired-I've been wanting to get started running (since my long term goal is to run a half marathon someday...;) if you can go out with your feet like that...I can get my butt up and run or at least walk-run a bit tommorrow morning...:thumbsup2 ( I even have a heart monitor...)

I am loving your photos of AK and all I have to say is that you look like you are having such a blast on EE---I just tried it in August...and I did love it...:lovestruc but sadly whereas you look like you are brave and screaming in victory...I look like I am screaming from terror...(which I partially was-but in a fun way...:confused3) Also those are some pretty great photos up there on EE...I think your DH has a really steady hand and pretty calm nerves to be taking such awesome, detailed photos during that ride...:thumbsup2

I love all the Tree of Life photos.... the owl is incredible! Photographing the TOL was one of my must do's in August but unfortunately we didn't get there. :headache: Must-MUST do now!

Another smiling picture! I love it

Thanks! .....and yeah re: ADR's! :cool1: I went on line today just to do a trial run and see waht's available. for some reason it was impossible to get a Sanaa ADR. I wonder, do you have to call for that one??????

Gosh, for 6 months out you wouldn't think so! I'll be watching yours, so far the 6 month out people have been getting what they want, hope that's true for us. Assuming we don't have to change dates....

Seriously? that is awesome. I am an amateur musician. I don't have a college degree in music , although I often wish I had persued music formally. I play the flute and guitar (very badly) and sing. The only formal training I have is flute. I am a pastoral musician in a catholic church, but since I don't play organ/piano, I am mostly volunteer. I get occasional paying jobs as a cantor for weddings / funerals. I really love classical music because of my flute background, but anything I compose is folk / soft pop. I would love to have formal training in composition. Sometimes I feel like I am right on the verge of becoming a decent composer, but I don't know how to get to that place.

Anyway - totally off topic, but if you are interested, take a listen to John's Song. It's a link to the you tube video. I wrote it for my friend's son who died a year ago. Its bare bones recording, but it gives you an idea of what type of music I write.

I have heard it! That is how I know you are a musician! A very sad occasion, but a good song! :thumbsup2

FF was great! Really loved it! How cool that you will be there for Alice's birthday and your anniversary. That is so cool. You will all have buttons, well almost all of you!

For the food....definately the FF. For the view and the romantic ambiance - Narcoosees. I really think that may favorite, all-around dinner was Artist Point. The restaurant was the prettiest, the service was the best, and the food was really good. I liked the food slightly better at FF, but I just didn't care for the way the restaurant was decorated. It looked a little too casual for me. Anyway - you have a difficult choice in front of you.

Oh....and I love BD adn the CG, too. That's a tough decision, too. I think I would probably pick CG, if you haven't been there before. I loved the food and the wait staff there and the view.....well simply amazing.

My feet really, really hurt on Monday night. And they were actually starting to hurt by the time we left AK, but not as bad as Monday night.

I did have a blast on EE. I remember that ride in TR. You were a bit nervous, shall we say! :rotfl: I do best on the first ride of EE. I tend to get dizzy on subsequent rides, so that always make me a little less brave.

My DH did do a great job with those pictures, didn't he? I was so proud!

I love all the Tree of Life photos.... the owl is incredible! Photographing the TOL was one of my must do's in August but unfortunately we didn't get there. :headache: Must-MUST do now!

Must - MUST do......:rotfl2: I like that! I'm going to use that for my next trip. I will have a list of "must-do's" and "must - MUST do's". Maybe that will help me prioritize better. :lmao:

Beautiful Tree of Life pics! :thumbsup2 But all your AK pics have been awesome!

Thanks......and......THANKS! I think I am definately improving in terms of getting better subject matter!

Another smiling picture! I love it

Mary Ellen, that was a great picture of you and Denny! Love the smile! :goodvibes

Can you believe it! :lmao: It looks a little forced, but I still think its acceptable! Next trip I think I will have a contest and have people guess how many pictures I smile in! Gotta luv it!

Gosh, for 6 months out you wouldn't think so! I'll be watching yours, so far the 6 month out people have been getting what they want, hope that's true for us. Assuming we don't have to change dates....

I hear ya'. I'm worried about that, too except we really can't change dates. I'm worried more about the park hours changing. I am planning everything, EVERYTHING, I tell you, around the AK late EMH.

I have heard it! That is how I know you are a musician! A very sad occasion, but a good song! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I like the song, but I really want to learn how to take it up a notch and compose more sophisticated things. I just don't have the right theory background to do that. Oh well. I regret that I never took piano lessons. My mother was an excellent piano player. When I was growing up I remember thinking, "I'll never be that good, so why try". Ah, the adolescent mind - so sophisticated. Funny story - My mother was taught by someone who used to hit her fingers with a ruler when her finger positioning was incorrect. Can you imagine?

But, since we are still off topic......One more question.....Do you have a specific notation software that you recommend? I had a bootleg version of Encore, which finally quit when I installed a new printer. I liked Encore, but it costs about $400 to buy new. I'm obviously not elgible for an upgrade, since someone gave the original version to me. I would like to get something less expensive. It clearly doesn't need all the bells and whistles, because the most sophisticated I get is soprano, alto, and a flute descant. I just noticed that I was writing more when I had software to write the music. I need to get back to that. And the only copy I had of John's Song was sent away for copyrighting. Shortly after that my Encore died!

on the Tree of Life???????

Well, I read somewhere on the boards that there are over 400, but according to the Hidden Magic of WDW there are 325 reptiles, mammals, and birds on the TOL. The tree is 145ft tall and has an expanse of 160ft. That is one big tree!!!!!!

p.s. I keep feeling like I am forgetting some replies, even though I keep checking. If I forgot to reply to any posts, please Please, Pleaselet me know. It must be my OCD.....sort of like being fearful of leaving a light on.

I think if you look at posted park hours and historical hours, you should be ok. When hours got changed on us it was not EMH per-se. It was closing time and all of the fireworks (Illuminations, Wishes and Spectro) times moved around. Bu the EMH's stayed the same so my parks per-day and where I had my ADR's was good, just the times then made us miss fireworks!

I really don't want to change our dates but we'll see, the soccer drama has begun.

I agree with that, except that AK EMH is fickle. It changed on our september trip. It was Monday in June then went to thursday and then moved to Friday. I just don't trust the AK EMH.

Oh NO......not the soccer drama. There is never going to be a perfect week to miss soccer. You just have to go with what looks best. Tink's mom is just going to have to chill. Uggggggghhhhhhhh - the pain of hearing about her!

Isn't the detail in the TOL just amazing?! I could spend hours taking it all in! You got some really great shots!! :goodvibes

My appreciation for the Animal Kingdom increases with each visit. There is so much to see!!!

OK, I like Sibelius, but it is also very expensive. We use a program called NoteWorthy Composer (www.noteworthysoftware.com) because it is so user friendly our students can use it and it is bargain-priced... $49! It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it has enough and is worth a free look at.

Great pictures of The Tree of Life!! You got some great shots of animals that I have never seen pictures of before.

I love that picture of you! You look so happy in it. :thumbsup2

SUPER Animal Kingdom and Tree of Life photos, Mary Ellen! Really great!!!!

And i vote you smile in ALL the pictures from your next trip :goodvibes

I think I like the tiger carving the best out of the second batch!

It's always so hard to leave a park when you know you won't be back until the next trip, but you did need to be well-rested for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! :thumbsup2

What a virtual paradise of Animal Kingdom photos MEK!!! WOW...seeing the Animal Kingdom today through your pictures really made me want to be there. You are right that park has so much to offer!!!!

Can't wait to hear all about MNSSHP!

I am really starting to love the AK. I think it is such a great park and I feel like I can't accomplish all I want to do there in one day. I want to spend a day and see everything there - every show - every ride - every pathway. The funny thing is there isn't one attraction I "don't like" in the AK. There really isn't anything I want to pass up, but I always have to pass up on a lot. I really would like to do one of the behind the scene tours there someday.

Thanks for that information! I will look into it. .....the noteworth, that is. I know that Sibelius is out of my price range, too. $49 is a great price. It makes me sad that I don't have access to my Encore files, but I do have most of the stuff printed.

Again - thanks so much for the tip. I can read about the software, but I need some first hand reviews.

Great pictures of The Tree of Life!! You got some great shots of animals that I have never seen pictures of before.

I had such fun taking those pics. I know I had seen a series of similar pics right here on the boards, so I KNEW I had to have them. And this was the trip to accomplish that - no interuptions.

I love that picture of you! You look so happy in it. :thumbsup2
Thanks! (I think I look a little nerdy, but that's ok - I really am!)

SUPER Animal Kingdom and Tree of Life photos, Mary Ellen! Really great!!!!

Thanks. I'm really glad you like them.

And i vote you smile in ALL the pictures from your next trip :goodvibes

Well - herein lies the problem - I have this tendency to frown, so if I don't focus on smiling, welll........you've seen the results. That's why it would be fun to actually count how often I smile. Ok, wait.....now that is really nerdy. :rotfl:

Be back soon with more replies - chauffer duty calls!
