From Europe to Africa in America - A Sisters' Expedition

Just a brief general update - I hope to get the next installment of the TR posted later today! I really want to finish the TR by the end of February and get started on a Pre-Trip-Report for the October/November trip. That will then also include a mini TR for the trip Katharina and I have planned in March to Disneyland Paris! That's next month already!! :woohoo:

Regarding Disneyland Paris: Thank you very much to everyone who posted their opinion on choice of hotel. We decided to stay with our original choice, the Newport Bay Club!

The one issue I had with it: breakfast has also been made a bit easier now since we will be able to have at least a snack in the park for free!! DLP has something called the "Shareholders Club". If you own shares in the company which owns DLP, the Euro Disney Company (of which the biggest shareholder still is the Walt Disney Company), which is a French share company, you can become a member of this club. Members receive several perks, discounts on park tickets and hotels (however, the discount we got was cheaper, so we won't use these), discounts at table service restaurants (:thumbsup2) and most importantly: access to Salon Mickey. This is a lounge which can be entered from just outside the DLP park and it offers beverages and croissants in the morning. It even has its own private entrance into the park. So if we want an early start at the park and not want to avoid breakfast crowds, we will just go there. Katharina as a member is allowed to bring a few guests with her. Thanks to DISboards we knew about it and could get it all set up in time! :thumbsup2

We also booked a private shuttle (from a recommendation on the DLP DISboard) to take us from the airport to DLP and back! They will pick us up at our arrival terminals (Katharina arrives at a different terminal than me and our friend), so we don't have to worry abot where to meet in the airport and get to the bus or train stop. CDG is a hge airport and I always find it a bit difficult to navigate.

Oh, and the most important thing today:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHARINA!!

I meant to send Happy Birthday greetings to Katharina 6:00 last night, since I think you guys are 6 hours ahead of us. That way she would have it at midnight your time, just as her birthday arrived! Well anyway...........

Kleese, don't be hesitant to hop into the thread that was suggested, its a nice bunch of people there and sometimes it goes a bit off topic. But the people there really love and know AKL very well.

One of my suggestions would be to research all the different activities offered at AKL - I really should post my activities schedule, even though it is a bit outdated now. And explore all the different areas of the resort, there are different outlooks to the savanna and you can see different things from there. Also, talk to the CMs. The ones stationed at the outlooks are mostly from African countries and are really interesting to talk to!

I will look into that. I'm still new on here dispite the date I first got on here I haven't read to much until recently. Everyone is really nice on on your thread but one thread I happened upon they were not so nice and I was thinking how can you not be nice when talking about Disney? So thanks everyone. If you could post the activities schudule that would be lovely.

Hope you get to spend sometime with your sister today. :cake:Happy Birthday Katharina! :flower3:

Yes, we get along very well - now as adults! My mother sometimes was rather desperate because we would fight so much as kids!! We always had times when we would play together very peacefully, but very often we did not... I sometimes wonder wether this might be the reason that we get along so well know, we have already done all the fighting when we were kids! :goodvibes

I hope the same for my kids. they fought like cats and dogs when they were little now they ignore each other for the most part. Being a boy/girl they just have different interests but I do see a glimmer of cooperation happening so there is hope.

Thank you all very much! I had a splendid and very relaxing day! We both had the day off work and had a nice breakfast with lots of presents and then went to an indoor waterpark, I think we mentioned it in our PTR: Tropical islands. The weather was really bad on Thursday, so it was just the right place to be!

When I asked on your TR about this conference you were attending and you mentioned that there are a few members in Germany including Tropcial Islands. I think I never told you that we had been there last winter (I think it was also in February). It is quite an amazing place, a huge hangar that was built for a company that was going to built airships and then went bust. It is 710,000 square feet and has a rain forrest in it! You can even stay overnight there.

I agree! I would love to go there as well...

We're getting a brand new one about 20 minutes from our house at the Evergreen Aviation Museum too!! We are so excited!

[URL="http://www.evergreenmuseum.org/#/the-museum/attractions-and-amenities/water-parkHere's[/URL]the link for the site. We love waterparks, and one of our favorites was Wild Wadi in Dubai.

So glad you got a day off with some fun, Katharina!!

That place is HUGE. My place is listed at 29,000 sq feet and so tiny. Since we are a Park and Recreation we had such a small foot print to work with.

I love those huge places, so much to do and see. :yay:

I saw a write up for a place not too far from you. I giggle every time I hear Wild Wadi. I think it is the Wa sound.

Did you know a whwole new line of "swimwear" was developed around the same time Wild Wadi was built? To find swimwear that covered sufficiently and was also lightweight enough not to impact the swimmer was needed.
