From Europe to Africa in America - A Sisters' Expedition

I just read your update, being far behind on the DIS (as usual lately!). I have never seen that Monsters Inc entrance and we even did that meet! We just saw it through the store -- where was that wall? It's adorable.

Sorry to hear about all the hassle with the cell phone. But what a very sweet DH to take care of it all! :goodvibes

GREAT DIS meet!!! I didn't realize Cynthia was there already - I think I just posted on her thread the other day asking how the PLANS were going. :rotfl: Ooops!

Love the update from you too Cynthia! I look forward to all the pics!

How fun that you are drinking your tea out of the mug! Magdalene brought me a wonderful bag from Berlin, from her recent visit to see Katharina which has quite the fun story about it and some gummi's that actually kind of go with the bag. A bit hard to explain without pictures so I need to take some of it (and make sure I don't eat them on the plane which will be easier said than done). I was impressed and touched that Magdalene remembered I had a weakness for gummi's.

Does the bag and gummies look like these??

:yay: for another great Dismeet!!! So excited that she was able to spend time with you  Cynthia is one of my traveling mates for May :thumbsup2 Wonder if she will save me some authentic gummies for then? :rotfl:

I have been terribly behind on all of my subscriptions :sad2: You recently posted some terrific PP pictures :goodvibes Aside from the rain it looks like you had a wonderful day/night at HS :) I really love watching the streetmosphere too....they are hysterical to watch :rotfl: I agree with you on Sci-Fi....the food is....just not that great...BUT I LOVE the BLT soup and the regular cherry coke! It is a fun atmosphere and I enjoy watching the "future" clips as do you :)

So excited for your first trip home....I don't remember if I commented on that before....unfortunately we are missing each other by just a bit. Although happy to see that you will be able to meet Ellen :goodvibes She is soooooo funny and sweet  I hope I get to spend more time with her on another trip....that girl knows how to have FUN!!!

I'm finally caught up! Oh my goodness there was a lot to read but worth every single minute! There was to much awesome stuff to comment on that it would be impossible. I was so excited that you posted a link for the old Living Seas video. I've only seen Nemo so I didn't know how much I missed out on. I am so sorry that we missed out on seeing that. We have a big aquarium here and we love it. Seems so sad that Disney couldn't afford to keep their's open the way it was. As I said before I've laughed and enjoyed myself so much that I am truely thankful to have found this thread. Thank you so much for inviting perfect strangers to enjoy your trip with you and as a bonus getting to know Germany from your eyes. A Happy New Year to you both and Remy!:rotfl::rotfl::woohoo:

Cool DISmeet! Great picture of the two of you. I can't wait to see the bag and gummis. LOVE gummi bears! But its hard for me to stop eating them once I start, so I generally resign myself to eating the whole bag.

Wonderful update! It looks like HS treated you well! And you certainly got some great pics of the two of you.:goodvibes The umbrellas were the perfect touch too! I love HS, I know some people don't really care for it but I think it's pretty awesome there.:thumbsup2

I'm glad Katharina that you were able to finally talk with your DH.:goodvibes What a frustrating experience though!

I like the idea of heading back to the hotel for a nap/rest as well. I didn't used to be that way, I used to drag my poor family through the parks at breakneck speed and then we'd all be falling asleep in our dinner plates! Now I know better.:goodvibes

What an amazing dismeet! How fun! It sounds like you had a great time together. Wow, so you've met several dis members in Germany? Very cool.:goodvibes

Looking forward to your next update.:thumbsup2

Too cool!

Seeing your picture together brought a :) to my face! It's great to see DIS-friends meeting up, even though they're continents away.

It was really fun!

It's funny about the cell phone, mine didn't work at all in Europe and I did feel a little bit like my arm had been cut off. So I can see why Katharina wanted it fixed and how that would be very stressful Only a real issue once, (compounded by some truncating numbers and myself being a bit of an idtion), but potentially twice and I will address that in the future for sure.

Update this week for sure, not sure if today but soon.
Great Dis Meet pix Magdalena !!! I am hoping to see more from Cynthia soon !!!
Soon :)
Cool! I'm glad that you got to meet up! :goodvibes
We did!
Cool DISmeet! Great picture of the two of you. I can't wait to see the bag and gummis. LOVE gummi bears! But its hard for me to stop eating them once I start, so I generally resign myself to eating the whole bag.

that is exactly my problem Rebecca!

For Christmas I got my youngest a "giant gummi bear on a stick" It says it is the equivelent of 77 regular size gummi bears AND a 3 pound bag of gummis. The boy likes his gummi bears! :thumbsup2

Hi hope everything is alright. Going to give you a bump up. :surfweb:

Hi Wendy, thanks for the friendly bump! :goodvibes Everything is alright, I just seem to be busy with work and life at the moment, not much time for the DIS. I hope to get on with replies and a new update (and an email to you ;)) soon!

What you neglect to mention is part of your busy-ness involved taking my parents on a tour last Friday! I just picked them up for the airport and had a lovely rive home hearing about their hour-long visit with you and seeing the Nuremberg courts, they were absolutely enthralled and so touched you took the time to offer to show them around and that it worked out. I of course had forwarded your kind offer but didn't know until today that it had happened!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making a very special trip, even that much more special to all of us.

Awww...shucks!! Thanks for the shout-out!! I am sooo sad we are missing each other this year (TWICE!) but I'm sure we'll get it together again someday. I AM looking forward to meeting Magdalena (and maybe Katherina Too!)! I think we're going to spend some quality time in the Ditch! :thumbsup2

I totally agree that it is great to see DIS-friends meeting up, that's exactly what I thought when I read about your meet with the Captain. Even though Cynthia and I did not get the memo about coordinating clothing. Sorry! :scared1:

;)

You definitely know quite a bit about Germany! ;)

Great Dis Meet pix Magdalena !!! I am hoping to see more from Cynthia soon !!!

Cynthia was much better than me to post on my thread about the meet... :rolleyes1

Cool! I'm glad that you got to meet up! :goodvibes

I thought it was quite funny that we met about the same time as you and Glenn! :goodvibes

Cool DISmeet! Great picture of the two of you. I can't wait to see the bag and gummis. LOVE gummi bears! But its hard for me to stop eating them once I start, so I generally resign myself to eating the whole bag.

I love gummy bears as well and all kind of them are very popular sweets here in Germany. I am very much like you that I tend to eat a whole bag (and then feel rather sick afterwards) so I only buy them on rare occassions for myself. But I like them much better than chocolate... :rolleyes1

I will post some more, including pictures of our meals, when I get back. Though they are all rather awful of me! My camera is off with my sister in law having pictures downloaded to their computer so she can make one giant CD to send back with my parents who are here for another week to celebrate my brothers birthday and a surprise party for my sister in law, planned by my brother. It was a lovely evening and a wonderful restaurant, we all enjoyed ourselves tremendously. In fact I don't think we actually discussed the parks at all, just some very brief DISboard chat at the very very end. In fact we were chatting so much, the server brought me another beer and I didn't even realize it had arrived, thought she'd forgotten and decided not to say anything and then it was like "oops!" here is a full beer that hasn't been poured. I guess that's a mark of good service and good company, she slid it in there, took the other bottle and I didn't even notice!

How fun that you are drinking your tea out of the mug! Magdalene brought me a wonderful bag from Berlin, from her recent visit to see Katharina which has quite the fun story about it and some gummi's that actually kind of go with the bag. I was impressed and touched that Magdalene remembered I had a weakness for gummi's.

I am very sad to be heading home tomorrow, it's been a lovely visit (though I do confess, I'd forgotten just how exhausting babies and toddlers are...there are 3 in the house and WOW! LOL) so my bed will feel lovely. I could gobble those babies up though they are so darn cute.

I am all checked in and packed and now off to bed to await my last wakeup from my 8 year old nephew who joined us for dinner and last snuggle with my brothers one-eyed cat, Una (or Oona, not positive how he spells it). My nephew was mostly behaved during dinner and some conversations that was likely not remotely interesting to him, though I think the 3 hours was a good 30 minutes past his limit. Luckily he was able to crash on my shoulder the ride back home.

I am glad that you enjoyed our meet as much as I did! I did remember that you loved gummi bears because they are my favourite sort of sweets! :thumbsup2

I am very much looking forward to your pictures, not only of the meet, but also from the rest of your stay.

Your nephew was indeed a very sweet kid and I was impressed how well behaved he was. I thought it was so cute when I asked about wether it was possible to get plain pasta. He asked in a very polite way and still showed quite a bit of self-assurance, I was pretty impressed! :goodvibes

I am glad that your parents enjoyed it! I certainly did. I love my profession and always enjoy talking about it (sometimes I can bore people with it because I won't stop... :rolleyes1 ask my sister) But your parents and your brother seemed genuinely interested, so it was a special treat for me as well. :goodvibes

I totally agree that it is great to see DIS-friends meeting up

:thumbsup2

You definitely know quite a bit about Germany! ;)

Well I only know of this through doing reading, researching about that particular picture I posted. And asking Katharina too. ;) I was looking for something unique to Berlin to bring home. And I really don't know a lot about Germany. I like to do a lot of research before I travel anywhere. But thanks for the compliment. :flower3:

I love gummies too! But not more than chocolate. Now my DD LOVES them. I brought her back a bag of individual packaged little tiny gummies from ALDI while there. Something we don't have here. We have gummies just not packaged that way. I thought they were the cutiest thing!

The wall was the other side of the meet and greet area, but according to a previous poster (Markus) it is no longer there. That's a shame...

I was so glad that the cell phone issue was worked out in the end since it was Katharina's birthday the next day!

DISmeets are so much fun, I am really surprised how easy it is to talk to people in real life that you only met online.. :goodvibes I am still sad that our meet was so short, but I think then I was really not yet very sure about meeting "strangers" and I did not want to burden my friend who I was travelling with with spending time on a DISmeet. Well, I am certain we will get another chance one day! :thumbsup2

Tracy

I am certain that there won't be any gummies left in May! ;) Your May trip was actually the only very brief Disney talk we had during dinner! It sounds like such a fun trip you are going to have with a wonderful group of ladies!

And I think we figured it out before that we are going to miss each other this October, but if I end up buying an AP (very likely due to length of trip and for the TIW card) I am certainly planning on an early October trip for 2012, so there will be another chance for a meet! :thumbsup2

I feel that we really got some pretty good PP pics this year. I think if you really get the CD you need to take lots of chances in order to get good pics. Some photographers are just better than others.

I am very impressed that you read the whole TR! I think I need to do that once I am finished with it, I think it will make a great memory!

I love these old attraction videos. Have you checked out the one for the original Journey into Imagination? That ride was so much more fun than what it is like now!

Thank you very much for your nice comments about our TR, I have enjoyed reading so many TR from others that I thought it was time to contribute as well and hope that it is useful for others trying to figure out how to plan a trip to WDW.

Wonderful update! It looks like HS treated you well! And you certainly got some great pics of the two of you.:goodvibes The umbrellas were the perfect touch too! I love HS, I know some people don't really care for it but I think it's pretty awesome there.:thumbsup2

We really had a great day at DHS and just as you I love this park. Actually, it was kind of my "first love" at WDW. When I was at WDW for the first time in 2004 we only had one day for each park and then one final day to revisit whereever we liked best. And DHS was the park where I just could not go back to the hotel for an afternoon rest. I just had to stay there from rope drop to closing. This was when I had my first encounter with the streetmosphere people.

For Christmas I got my youngest a "giant gummi bear on a stick" It says it is the equivelent of 77 regular size gummi bears AND a 3 pound bag of gummis. The boy likes his gummi bears! :thumbsup2

Wow, that's a lot of gummi bear!! :scared1:

I realized today that we have only two more months left (well and one day, but what is one day...) before we leave for DLP   So I think we should really get on with this TR! And I was shocked when I realized my last post was about four pages back... So in case anyone feels there is still a question out there, please let me know!

My Moms is a little one too, but very cute. It is simple and just has four or five little people in it. Not sure if its supposed to represent anything? :confused3. I really likes yours being the nativity scene!

Your Moms is beautiful! I had no idea they sold such big ones! Very, very pretty.

Usually the figures in the pyramids depict a certain scene shepherds or a little angels, or a choir. There are also non-Christmas pyramids with children and flowers.

Visiting my In-laws I saw a really big one in front of a church, the figures were as tall as humans!

And I agree with Brook, the windows of your apartment are beautiful. Do they look down onto the street below? The building across is gorgeous!

I love my flat more everyday :goodvibes Our building is from the 1970s and was built on a large former factory site. Some of the old brick buildings are still used, there is an indoor playground, a dancing studio, some offices and all our windows are facing these old buildings, not onto the street.

It was a great update! Thanks!!!
Great picture Katharina! Love the Dirndl and the Christmas tree! You have such a cool looking apartment.

BTW, is that strictly what is called a dirndl, or are there other versions? After all the previous discussions, that is not exactly what I expected. (Time for some more Marv education in all things German!)

Thank you! I'm quite sure I mentioned here or on your thread that you shouldn't have to high expectations of my Dirndl. There are many different types of Dirndls, some more, some less exposing. I got my Dirndl when I was 16, before I left for my exchange year in Czechoslovakia, so of course I got a kind of demure one...
Wikipedia has a short article about the Dirndl with pictures of different types: here

Yes, you need to get this TR completed and get on with the PTR!!! You don't have forever you know!!! :rotfl:

That is actually a very interesting article! So much more to it than just a dress, like the position of the Knot meaning something different. Very impressive that you got yours when you were 16 and it still fits!!! :woohoo:

The best part is when I post the picture I took of what I thought was a dirndl, it appears it actually is and I'm not gonna have to get a lecture from Magdalene about my error (or at least I hope I'm not.....). :rotfl2:

Just kidding Magdalene. You know I love you!!! :)
