From Europe to Africa in America - A Sisters' Expedition

Great update Magdalene! We love POFQ! We've stayed there twice. Mainly for the pool the kids loved it!

You weren't freaked out by the giant head things above you? :lmao::rotfl:

This looks Yummy!

Looking forward to the next update. popcorn::

That quesadilla made my stomach growl this morning! :goodvibes Sorry to hear there wasn't anything much without milk or cheese though! That is a bit surprising considering how many people have that same intolerance. :confused3

I love your poncho Photopass pictures!

And, I'm almost 20 days late with this but....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Sounds like you had a wonderful day. :cutie:

Nice pictures! I've never been a huge New Orleans/Mardi Gras fan (and yes, the big masks are kinda creepy), but it feels like they captured the spirit of the place well.

:cool1: Woohoo! What a nice surprise! I had forgotten about this little contest. When I started reading, I was thinking, "I think I guessed POFQ. I hope I guessed POFQ!"

It looks like a very nice resort. Unfortunately, what I've seen of it is only what is visible from the boats, going from POR to Downtown Disney, and stopping to pick up/drop off POFQ passengers.

Congratulations again! We really liked what we saw. It felt like a very relaxing place and I can imagine maybe staying there some time in the future. :goodvibes

We stayed at POFQ in Sept and love the grounds. The rooms however, need updating.

I loved POP and the thermostat and of course the refurbed rooms are great.

FQ still has the old style unit that does not shut off at a certain temp. So if it on cool it will cool until you turn it off or in our case freeze at night. Not to mention it is noisy.

I think that may have been enough to annoy me at FQ but I seem to think there was another thing. :confused3

Ah yes. The only elevator in our building ( # 1) was on the river side. Of course we were on the other side. For us no biggie we walked up and down the stairs except when we checked out with luggage. Why would you not put the elevator in the center of the building? :confused3

It's interesting that you think the rooms need updating. I remember when I was at WDW for the first time in 2004 we stayed at POR. POFQ just had been refurbished and POR was in the process of being refurbished and we were so excited to get a new room! But when I look at POR rooms now (we stayed in the Mansions) I feel like the design did not keep up very well. They look extremely boring to me. I think POFQ rooms look better in pictures. Of course, there might be some wear and tear which needs attention?

And I absolutely understand the A/C issue you mentioned! That is indeed one thing which does put me off from staying at POFQ as well. :confused3

Lovely, LOVELY resort! I love all the iron work made to look like lace.

Did you try some pralines or beignets??

I saw many a "laundry train" as well. Cracked me up every time.

Congrats to the winners!! Good job!

The ironwork is wonderful! And I like how it goes well with the outside hallways - which I personally find rather tacky otherwise. We just don't have those here in Germany...

We did not try pralines or beignets... I had totally forgotten about them until you mentioned them now! I have no idea what we had been thinking!! Katharina should have had beignets instead of her borig ham/turkey thing!!

Aren't those laundry trains fantastic!!! I wonder what the central laundry facility for WDW looks like.... I have a vague memory of it being included in the Backstage Magic tour... Maybe I need to take that one day.

I hate to be picky, but wouldn't that make it a HAM sandwich???:confused3

well.... I'm so glad I didn't write this. Let's see what she will say in her plea...

Well, I wonder why I employ an editor when she does not catch such obvious mistakes?? I think she really should charge less if she lets things slip so much. :confused3

But actually I don't know what it was, the trip notes say turkey and I think it looks more like turkey, but the receipt says ham. So I could say that the TR just translate this discrepency of sources into prose... :goodvibes

POFQ looks like a really nice resort! Well themed! That is also one place we had considered staying, but now that we own DVC, I guess we will just have to visit and take pictures.:)

I can see me staying there for a few nights in the value season if I ever need to save points... But I think it would be a good destination to visit when you are staying at OKW. :goodvibes

I actually started to change my previous answer after I finished reading the rest of your TR. Sadly, I still don't think I would have said POFQ so glad I didn't doubt myself! :rotfl2:

WL was one of the resorts which we had considered for this trip, so your guess was actually quite good. As were all the others. :thumbsup2

Congrats on passing ROFR!!! Again, Welcome Home!!!

Thanks again!! :goodvibes

Lovely pictures. We stayed here in Feb and really loved the grounds. It's like New Orleans only a whole lot cleaner.

I really would love to see New Orleans one day, even if it isn't clean. :goodvibes I thought the grounds were really beautiful as well and I would love to return on a more cheerful day.

I had no idea that you stayed at POFQ! It is really lovely and I understand why so many DISers stay there again and again.

I also thought that the food court would be really horrible, because I find the pictures of these giant heads so ugly. But I found that once you are there, they aren't nearly as obvious as in the photographs. It kind of fitted into the theme very well.

Ahhh! POFQ. I love all your pictures. It will always be my home away from home at Disney.

You were one of the people who inspired us to go to POFQ and we talked about how well we understood your love for POFQ when we were exploring there.

Which just made me think that it appears that we have a rather similar taste in resorts. Katharina and I love the Boardwalk as well and I think you once mentioned that you really enjoyed AKL, too. :goodvibes

If I ever strayed from POP !!POFQ would be my choice !!!

It is very pretty! I am actually thinking that on my next trip I really want to visit Pop! I love the pictures of the updated rooms and I think it would be a great choice for a brief visit! :thumbsup2

Nice pictures! I've never been a huge New Orleans/Mardi Gras fan (and yes, the big masks are kinda creepy), but it feels like they captured the spirit of the place well.

The masks are much less creepy in person than in the pictures. It is a very pretty resort and there are so many details. Due to the weather we did not explore as much as we might have done otherwise... :goodvibes

Okay Katharina, admit it.......you knew the little sister was going to get blamed SOMEHOW!!!! :rotfl2:

Actually, I was fairly certain from the picture this was turkey, but since I wasn't invited to join along and know firsthand.......... :rolleyes1

Actually, not a bad idea if I'm out of points and need to make a quickie trip back to Disney for a DISmeet or something. I will have APs that are good up until around Christmas 2011, so I do have a built in excuse to get my money's worth......... :goodvibes

Don't know how I missed it - but just spent the last 2 days reading your TR. :surfweb: I cheated and only went through the links. Now that I am caught up I should be able to follow along in real time.

Port Orleans is such a beautiful resort....I love all of the detail and although I have never stayed there it feels like I would love being there. I almost stayed there a Saturday night in October to save points but I didn't feel like moving around so my laziness won out ;) I always forget there is the FQ and Riverside hence my guess
The laundry train cracks me up :rotfl2: It is a never ending job!!
Hope you get into the "system" soon so you can start making your first trip home reservation!! :goodvibes

Ok Marv, that how I got started. It is a wonderful side effect though. :rolleyes1

So not such a bad thing???:rolleyes1
Thanks so much Magdalene! Hope the rest of your week, and weekend are the best! And tell Katharina we haven't forgotten.......dirndl, dirndl, dirndl.........

I haven't forgotten.... but there is still so much to do in our new flat and so littel time and the thing is, I need not only myself and the drindl but also a photographer... as I have been away the last weekends and my private photographer is really tired after work, it is not so easy to find time between sorting through books and installing lamps.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Thank you for the Thanksgiving Wishes, Magdalene & Katharina! :goodvibes

Today is all about cooking & eating; tomorrow is all about shopping!!! :rotfl:

Thanks, ladies! Enjoy your day too (but I bet we have better food today than you do!)

I know I started reading this way back when but somehow fallen off the bandwagon. I'm going to start from the beginning and get all caught up. :surfweb:
