Greetings!

(I am new so please forgive me for any future no-no's)

A group of us ( 6 adults and 5 young children) from Australia are planning to visit the USA with nothing but Disney on our itinerary, for (Season Removed) 2012 to coincide with WDW 40th anniversary.

I have looked into DVC rental points in order to travel 5 star on a 3 star budget.

Is this plausible to do when visiting Disneyland, then Walt Disney World, then a cruise on the Disney "Dream", then returning to Australia via Aulani, Hawaii? If so, what would be my first "point-of-call"?

Cheers!
(PS: I posted this in another forum, but didn't get any response...)

Note: Info that would indicate a specific travel time period has been removed. This thread was submitted to the Rent/Trade board, and moved to Mousecellaneous, as the Rent/Trade board does not allow general rental questions. Transactions only on the Rent/Trade board, please. - Chuck S

Welcome to the DIS Boards. What you'd like to do is certainly possible. However, the cruise portion of your trip would likely be much cheaper simply paying cash through Disney Cruises rather than using DVC Points. But for the Disney resort portions, yes, DVC Point rentals would probably be your best bet, unless you want to travel during the two week major holiday period right at Christmas. That holiday period is the most expensive point usage, but Early December and January is one of the least expensive point usage periods.

You will likely need to work with 2 to 3 individual DVC owners, as your trip would take a relatively large number of points because of your party size, or it may be worth it to you to contact our Rent/Trade board sponsor, David's Vacation rentals.

DVC Owners can book their home resorts (the resort where they physically own points) 11 months prior to check-in date. And for your schedule, I'd certainly recommend booking as early as possible.

Thanks again Chuck S.

So far it is all making sense.

But if for some reason I would need more points than any one member has to offer, would I be best to try and collect more than one contract, back to back. Or would it be better, logistically, to obtain the best contract I could and then pay the difference with rack rates on any extra days I may require?

You can rent from multiple members, each reserving a portion of the stay. They could not mix points for any one night of a reservation. And, if you reserve anytime between 11 and 7 months out, you would just about have to deal with multiple owners, unlessyou found one owner that happen to own enough points at each of your desired resorts.

More than likely you'll be dealing with a WDW DVC owner, a DL DVC Owners and an Aulani DVC owner. Maybe more, depending upon the total number of points you'd need for any destination.
